Has run full for the past few years as a Christmas dining tour, with Carol service in the Minster. Good option rather than the heaving masses at York, and a few decent pubs in Bev. I would never have thought that it would be so incredibly popular....but the Minster is one fantastic attraction! Ray
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted December 17, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 17, 2018 (edited) Until the end of steam, there were quite regular Beverley Race specials which were most popular. They fell foul of the big changes British Railways were bringing in in the 1960's, with the dramatic cut backs in the pool of spare coaching stock, and the end of specialist racing traffic. All so sad since, if there were still all those trains running, I'm sure the roads in Beverley would be much less congested on race days. Best regards, Rob. ianmacc
Booked move for the Northern turnback services, has been for many years.I know I used to use them. The 0636 came in on the Scarborough platform, reversed wrong direction back over the level crossing and back over the points onto the Hull line. Then wrong direction again back into the platform ready to form the York via Hull service. Perhaps this should go in the ‘prototype for everything’ section for those who make similar weird moves on their layouts!Booked move for the Northern turnback services, has been for many years.I know I used to use them. Ray Lived in Beverley for two years until 2016. Totally understand why it is so popular as it has great independent shops and variety way beyond its population size. Would live there again happily. Judge Dread
G5 at Springhead, early fifties. No other details. G5 67340 Springhead .jpg According to my facially copy of "Ian Allan" 1948, this loco was the only one of the class with "larger tanks". This was also the only one I didn't "cop". Keep up the good work Mick and thank you. Edited December 23, 2018 by Judge Dread

EddieK
A question relating to Filey - by 1976/7, how much of the station track layout remained? "Back in the day" there were sidings for fish, gas works and the goods yard, but how much remained by that time? Also, I have seen photos of the Holiday Camp Station and by its final year it was down to just Platforms 1 and 2. To what extent did the track work on the approaches from Royal Oak North and South remain at that time, ditto for station throat?

By 1976 all that was left were the two running lines including a crossover just south of the station and another north of the station. I think you are correct about the holiday camp been down to platforms 1 and 2, and as far as i can recall the Double Track Junctions at Royal Oak North and South were still in place, not sure about the station throat.
