The Blue Streak
A few more from Elvington planes1.jpg steve That's a Mirage on the right. The Oz airforce had them as their strike fighters / Interceptors when I was a kid ( and F111's as the Bomb trucks) most pilots seem to remember the Mirage as a bit fussy and high maintenance but a great deal of fun and it just looked so right. (A bit like that girl in High School that everyone fancied). At the same time the RAAF had F111's and Mirages, the Navy had A4's so a truly diverse fighter fleet for the time. The second Mirage Crashed near Darwin in 1984 just prior to being them phased out and replace with the original F18 Hornets, We later took delivery of the later Superhornets a few years ago and are still waiting for our F35's which have turned into a bit of a joke with the time they've taken and the issues they've had Edited November 9, 2017 by The Blue Streak
The Blue Streak
Just to say a bit more about RAAF F111's, to call them just a Bomb Truck is perhaps a little unfair, they were nicknamed the Pig because of the ability to get there snout in the weeds thanks to their Terrain Following Radar. They could fly at Mach 2.5 and had the ability to Fly to Jakarta and back without refueling. A fact that was never lost on Indonesia and the main reason why it was F111's moved up to Darwin when tensions were a little high during the East Timor crisis in the 90's. They were continually updated and Modernised and were still a fairly useful tool when retired earlier this decade mainly for cost reasons. But the fact that Oz finally got in flight refueling facilities and extended it's range to much of SE Asia made it politically a hot potato anyway. Several Were converted to Electronics warfare use. The Biggest thing about the F111 was it's ability to please crowds with it's dump and burns, where it dropped raw fuel and lit the afterburners. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2Vq3EyRI9w Just to add, none of the F111 or Mirage pics are mine, they are from Wikipedia Commons.

RMweb Premium newbryford Posted February 17, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 17, 2018 (edited) A pair of F18s on final approach to NAS Key West, FL a couple of weeks ago. Followed by a F5 This was also in the air - a Hawker Siddeley Hunter (see below) https://travelforaircraft.wordpress.com/nas-key-west-air-to-air-training/ Cheers, Mick Edited February 17, 2018 by newbryford
Ozexpatriate
This was also in the air - a Hawker Siddeley Hunter (see below) Nice to see the Hunter airborne. Tragically one crashed in a suburban neighbourhood after an airshow here a couple of years ago. There can't be too many that are still air-worthy. Jeff Smith
Interesting Tiger/Hunter link. The Tiger was powered by a licence built Armstrong Siddeley Saphire, the same engine that powered some versions of the Hunter....as well as Victor and Javelin. Paperlad
Helos, un-natural things, wings should be firmly attached to the fuselage and not wizzing around over your head.

DavidB-AU
For those on Facepalm this is an interesting video. The Historical Aircraft Restoration Society in Australia has had not one but TWO airworthy F27-500s donated to it. Both were until recently flying mail in New Zealand. The first one arrived today. These are believed to be the first flyable preserved F27s in the world.https://www.facebook.com/hars.gen/videos/960572764101523/Nothing quite like the scream of a Rolls Royce Dart.CheersDavid
Paperlad
A350-1000?Bingo! A7-ANA, the first -1000 delivered and brought into service on 24th Feb. I flew it to Heathrow (LHR) yesterday, it makes me only the 3rd post delivery skipper on the planet to fly it......and just 3 weeks before I jack it all in.
