Mark Saunders
It is a sign that all is not well with the slimmed down DB in the UK especially as they have not been sent to Germany for reuse on the continent as others have? I would expect one of the leasing companies to acquire them! Mark Saunders
black and decker boy
Are these the first 66s to be up for sale, it's usually 60s they offload? The first working 66s from DB, yes 66048 was sold last year but as an empty shell. FL and DRS have both sent 66s off lease in the past as well.

RMweb Gold russ p Posted August 4, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 4, 2017 I sincerely hope they don't end up with DRS to replace 37s Booths would be a far better recipient!

woodenhead
Why are they all called Toton? Cheaper to buy nameplates in bulk, applying the same principles of purchasing 250 66s
Ed-farms
Why are they all called Toton? Because when EWS bought them, the only transfers the shop had were for Toton nameplates so they stuck them on them all and hoped no one would notice

Swifty11
I would suggest that the reason for the sale probably has something to do with competition/monopolies commission, as with when the 60s were tendered out.
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted August 4, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 4, 2017 If I had the dosh, I would actually try and buy 66238. 238 is a favoured number of mine and my first ever Bachmann 66701 was repainted into EWS and carried 66238. It was still on call for exhibition use last weekend. It will now probably be gracefully retired from active duty. Cheers, Mick

Edwin_m
I am surprised that they aren't owned by a leasing company I seem to recall they were on some kind of deal originally where they paid for them whether they used them or not. The sale may be related to the first ones coming up to their 20th anniversary.

Great Western
Angel orginally provided finance for the 250 Class 66, and 30 Class 67 plus a fair chunk of the wagons that were ordered between 1996 and 2000. I believe the contract involved EWS/DBC buying them enblock for a token sum at a certain point, there was also a deal that saw a finance company buy and lease back a number of Class 90 and 92, not sure what happened with that.
