On the previous one (less said about that the better) I painted the fake rails with sleeper grime, this time I’ve used aluminium which I think looks quite effective.

 

I’ll have to ‘dirty’ them up but I quite like how the stand out

Nearly back to how it was before Lady Luck decided to take a dump on the last one

 

 

Once dry I repaint the kurb around the drain darker because it’s a bit to light

The rails were unfortunately far too bright and clean and stood out like a sore thumb so I’ve gone over them with sleeper grime

 

 

 

Tried to spray a translucent covering so a little ‘shiny’ poked through

That looks much more like the real thing, those trucks would never move fast enough to really polish the rails*, it's more like the dull but well trodden surface you got with the weighbridge.

 

*It would be amusing if they did, or perhaps not...

They are Peco 009 with the couplings removed and replaced with chain

Because I previously did the static grass after adding the floor and retaining wall I’ve had to try and fill in the gaps and blend it back in as best as I could using flock….

 

….I’ve used spray glue hence the white on the grass bank, hopefully this will dry clear

The white is barely noticeable on the photo so I wouldn't worry to much.

Luckily it dried clear, I used WWS layering spray. Unfortunately I used the last bit so I’ve ordered another can so I can continue to grass the rest of the embankment. I do have some laying spray in a spray bottle but I find the aerosol more convenient.

 

In the meantime I’ve added a run of ‘ash’ along the edge of the embankment retaining wall as suggested by @Nick C

 

 

I’ll build up a couple of layers before adding the ballast (I could just as easily done it the other way round)

Pound shop hair spray is just as good and WWS layering  spray, cheaper but might make the living/railway room pong for a while.

You can buy unperfumed extra hold hairspray for a couple of pounds, both Boots and Sainsbury's sell an own brand. 

It's also useful for turning moths into gliders....

No not personally but I have a 7kg cat that does the same thing but he usually only needs one go at it.

Lidl's Extra Hold is pretty damn good....I use the PECO/WWS layering spray for the initial adding of 4mm to the 2mm base then subsequent layers of 4mm/flocks and foliage are done with copious amounts of this nuclear strength hairspray. Dries quite spikey actually. 

 

Just don't get any overspray on your wool...just saying.

His name is Keppler he is a daddy's boy. He likes to bring me "gifts" such as mice and rats usually alive chasing mice around the house is one thing rats are a whole different matter. His nickname is "Squick" coz he makes a sound that isn't a full squeak.

His brother, Hubble, is dainty black 5kg Russian Blue yes I know he's black his mum threw 6 kittens 5 blue and this little monster.

Don't be fooled by his appearance. He is a full on witches familiar. He's a total mummy's boy. His nicknames are "Fang" or "Satan's claw". He has really foul temper sometimes.
