Probably why I'm divorced.

As you weren’t listening properly, how would you know?

I hear everything she says but I ignore most of it.

I am multitasking... Reading this thread while eating a packet of chille crisps and enjoying a glass of amber fluid from a square glass with the bottles name on it... :D

At the same time going " yes, really, well iam blowed" etc. At the right moments hopefully

That's generally the first thing that stops once you get married as I recall....

There is a special food, which puts women off it.

It’s called wedding cake.

Back to railways, (probably) a further dig in the bits box revealed a horse trough and pump. This is something that I wanted to put in the goods yard between the weighbridge and the yard gate.

It's an old W&T kit, still available from Scale Link I believe.

I've no idea if there was an official paint scheme for such things, I'm putting the elaborate  paint job down to the painters finding a continuous supply of tea coming from the weighbridge office.

The concrete surface is a mixture of paint and talc.

I'll add some varnish for water once it's assembled.

Another minute bit of progress.

FYI it's a W&T PY53 Village pump and horse trough. It also comes with a small base and a drain for a stand alone pump. (Visible in the background in the picture.)

Further to some of the recent comments on Marriage...
There's this on a Austin 7 forum, and a typical enthusiasts reply...
"It will be the timing 180 degrees out !"

You have to remember that although the firing order on the Austin Seven is 1,3,4,2, it's magneto is timed clockwise from the back of the engine compartment. Fine if you know, if you don't, it will never start.

That reminds me that my cattle in the dock have been going thirsty for some time now.

Which reminds me that I need to fix mine down. Thanks!

The parts bin / box of doom also turned up this:

IMG_20220207_115930.jpg.0baff522626ce5851ae2beb378d304d4.jpg

I did a bit of searching to find out how it should look. If only I could paint that finely, I did what I could with a 5/0 brush. No doubt I will obsess a little and give it another once over.

Time to finish off the station buildings.

It's pretty damn tricky painting tiddly raised detail.

I tried a couple of methods.

Paint entire sign white then paint entire sign red. Once dry, gently rub finger over raised bits removing red paint. It worked but also removed the white paint.

Paint entire sign red then gently draw a white pastel  stick across. Worked okay but filled in 'o's and 'p's etc.

Dry brushing was the best. Took a few attempts with less paint each time but finally got the hang of it.  I did quite a few on the basis that the next time I wouldn't be quite so well practiced  and would have to start again. Still have a few left.

Thanks Rob, that's some very useful information.

Unfortunately in the case of this casting,, the only raised detail is the black "window" at the front. There's none of the raised ribs and lettering that appears on the real thing.

So it's been a case of the odd dab of white paint here and there.

I find it easier to paint the red over the white, if that makes sense.

How did you do the water? Glue & Glaze?

I did something similar for the water troughs on the cattle dock at Chuffnell Regis; just used a couple of coats of gloss varnish.

I used Humbrol 35 gloss varnish. I put a good blob of it in the centre of the trough with a brush and then pushed it into the corners with a cocktail stick. Doing it this way prevents a meniscus of varnish forming up the sides of the trough and stops bubbles forming.

I lightly covered it over with a piece of polythene to let the air get in but keep the dust out until dry.
