RMweb Gold Popular Post SouthernRegionSteam Posted April 27, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 27, 2022 Good morning everyone, and thank you for the kind comments; I'm glad you're enjoying the tour! As you can see, I had a lot of fun taking photos, and having such lovely layouts made it even more rewarding. By the way, the Land Rover on Penmaenbach was one of many things I didn't spot until editing the photos. It really is a lovely show of support and remembrance. Continuing our tour; from one grubby industry to another, we pop around the corner to visit... ... Orchard Road (& Mudmagnet Models) - Richard (Don't know/can't find your surname, sorry Richard!) @mudmagnetbrought along some of his 3D printed models; showing an impressive collection of lathes, pillar drills and other workshop tools. The detail on them is pretty incredible it has to be said: Of course, he also brought along Orchard Road - a layout I remember being impressed with online in my early years of RMweb. It was great to finally get to see the layout in the real world; and it did not disappoint! I've always admired the stone bridge, and it's great to see one built on the skew because, although making for a more complicated structure, it creates a much less harsher end point for the scenic section. The varied vegetation, especially around the various buffer stops, worked really well, but it's the interior detailing of the workshop that really 'wows'! So glad that I finally got a chance to see Orchard Road - it's a lovely bit of modelling. 23 3 3
RMweb Gold mudmagnet Posted April 27, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 27, 2022 (edited) @SouthernRegionSteam, many thanks Jamie for the photos and comments, very much appreciated. At long last you get to see the layout! I started this over 12 years ago, how time flies and add a few details occasionally. Always good when someone else takes a few photos as often find different views from those that I usually take. Thanks for the comments re the 3D printed items. For those interested, please follow link in my signature below. ps, my son took over operation for the afternoon, so had chance to wander / chat with fellow RMwebbers! RMweb Gold Popular Post SouthernRegionSteam Posted April 27, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 27, 2022 (edited) @2ManySpamscan finally rest easy and temper his excitement as we skip ahead to... ... Polsarrett - Chris Tooth Whilst not (quite) finished, I initially didn't notice; Chris made an amazing effort to get the layout in such great form for SWAG - in fact, having seen a couple of W.I.P shots a short while ago, I was blown away by what he presented! The first thing that captured my interest was the level crossing - a really lovely scene, with a road at a low level towards the front rising up to meet the railway, and then rising again and curving as it meets the backscene out of view. The line of sight up this lane is spot on, and I just wish I took more photos here. Chris explained to me how originally the lane was wider, but he wanted a nicer transition to the wall on the left, and settled on adding a little ditch. Knowing windy narrow country lanes all too well, I think it's perfectly executed. The main attraction is obviously the clay drying shed, with it's lovely makeshift corrugated iron lean-to; with plenty of clay dust evident, as to be expected. By this point at the Member's Day, I started to run out of space on my SD card, so, whilst I managed to take a few, I'd love to revisit the layout when it's complete and have a proper go at getting some nice stacked shots. I was actually worried I'd only have a handful of photos of Polsarrett, but as it turns out it has the most... go figure! It's a beautiful little layout, Chris! Whew! I need a lie-down after that marathon of photos... Edited April 27, 2022 by SouthernRegionSteam Apparently I can't read! 23 2
RMweb Gold Graham_Muz Posted April 27, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 27, 2022 A huge thanks to the talented Jamie aka @SouthernRegionSteam for the excellent photographs to record the exceptional modelling that was once again in attendance. The level of modelling only beaten by the warmth of welcome and friendship that makes this SWAG event not to be missed! 6 9
RMweb Gold Barry Ten Posted April 27, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 27, 2022 Jamie's photos make me want to go back and spend another hour catching all the bits I somehow missed on the day. 2 9
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted April 27, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 27, 2022 Next year Jamie needs to be sent round all the layouts to photograph them BEFORE the SWAG Day, so we can do exactly that! 7
RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted April 27, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 27, 2022 @SouthernRegionSteam Jamie, the photos were well worth the wait, fantastic stuff. Makes me glad I put the effort in getting the layout almost complete. Thank you for spending the time taking and processing them, a great record of the day. One minor typo.... It's Polsarrett. 5 1 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post SouthernRegionSteam Posted April 27, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 27, 2022 And of course, ewe wouldn't want to miss the final layout at SWAG... ... Ewe - Rob Gunstone The sheep chronicles continue with a new entry from @NHY 581(despite also putting on the event itself!). A delightful little cameo layout, which, featuring water, naturally means it immediately garners my interest. It's been beautifully done, too, and the water lillies make for a really nice touch, along with the reeds and other stream-side vegetation. Plenty of inspiration for my next layout! I love Rob's modelling. 'Simple' (i.e. allowing the scene room to breathe; and not cramming it with track, buildings or clutter), consistent, and always featuring a rural backwater. What's not to love? The leaves and moss on the shed is a lovely touch, too. Another thing I love about Rob's layouts is the composition; everything is so nicely balanced. In the case of Ewe, tall trees either side, small buildings either side, and a viewblocking tree and shed offset to break the layout into two parts, and encourage interesting sight lines. Yet another 'sheep bloke' layout that is sure to be a classic. Take a look: And that wraps up all the layouts on show at SWAG '22. I'll post some closing thoughts later on. 19 1

Darnit! For some reason I keep swapping 'Pol' for 'Pen'. I blame Penmaenbach! I mean, you've got the name in big enough letters on the fascia, so it should be hard to get wrong... 😆 Duly corrected, thank you. Anyway, I'm glad it was worth the wait, and again well done on getting it (almost) done in time for the show.

He calls the layout anything but its real name. Usually involves reference to inflatable parrots for some reason. You're more than forgiven, particularly as my other layout is Pencarrow... 3

Looking forward to next years event, you will be granted unlimited pre-event backstage access to all areas............ Oh no, the mindboggling announcements have begun already! Does this official unofficial post include a free translation service to convert unofficial/official/preannouncements/preannouncements of announcements into common English? 🥴 On a serious note (if such a thing is possible), I am flattered - and never expected these photos to be so well received, so many thanks all. With the last set of photos now up, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their kind comments and likes/reactions on my photos. Layout owners; you are all more than welcome to use them on your layout threads, or where you deem appropriate. If you could attribute me, that would be a bonus as a lot of work went into processing the photos. The same goes for those who wish to do their own write-up on the event elsewhere; including the BRM/WoR team, and organisers of the SWAG do etc. I can provide digital high-res versions of all photos on request. If we had an extra day I would've returned to take some video, but as it was I ran out of time despite being there from 9am - 4pm! The calibre of the layouts is as good as, if not better than any paid exhibition; and the fact that exhibitors come from across the UK shows just how well-respected this Member's Day is. Well done to Rob for taking the reins from Stu this year, and I hear preparations are already in full swing for next year; where we'll get to enjoy yet another packed, friendly event... I for one can't wait! It is no exaggeration to say that I have never left a show feeling more inspired and more eager to get a plan for my next layout done, and work to get said layout started. RMweb Premium DLT Posted April 28, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 28, 2022 I would like to add my great thanks to Rob, his team, and everyone involved in the Swag-Fest whether they were organiser, caterer, exhibitor, or visitor (and not forgetting Photographer-in-Chief Jamie) for such a hugely successful day. After a while it felt like we'd never been away and the last two years was a bad dream to be put firmly behind us. I was so pleased to be able to bring Bridport; having done Narrow Gauge South in Eastleigh on Saturday, its the first (and probably last) time I've done two shows in two days. Particular thanks to St.Simon and Dad, and to Jamie (taking a break from photography) for the time they spent operating. Once again my thanks to all. RMweb Gold john new Posted April 28, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 28, 2022 I particularly liked this small diorama using the gate from Church Ope Rd. I pass it at least once a week so interesting to me as a local to see how it has been used on that quay. Not sure anyone else has posted a photo. 10
