73 wasnt doing anything. No noise, electric or diesel.

The iphone video was by my 11 year old, I just checked my footage and can see the orange jumper was not connected.

Just got a late tip off, that it run its first revenue service tonight…

ran out with the mobile…caught it on a trainload of brand new Network Rail FEAs from Dollands Moor to Eastleigh, at Purley Oaks.

What a cracking livery option. :0

I think its just the world we now live in.

lets face it, Bachmann got passed the winning post first, if it weren't, someone else would.

Tbh not sure Hornby would even enter the race, their track record on post 1994 isnt that high.

What it might do is gear up Hornby's efforts on 56’s to make sure that its only the 69 Bachmann do, though theres not much left their anyway.

Pity theres not as much scramble about DMU and EMUs... low hanging fruit always gets picked first.

fwiw I have a class 56 body, and was considering a 69 from it.. I have a donor 66 and 68 ready to chop the bits from..

This made me chuckle as I did exactly the same, and binned it off after this announcement!

69005 now in class 33 inspired BR Green:

It'll be interesting to see what liveries the last five carry. I'd be surprised if Red-stripe and sector colours weren't on the list.

Steven B.

Considering the amount of Civ Eng work GBRF does for Network Rail, A Dutch 69 would be a nice nod towards recognising that work.

Understand GBRf have agreed to a total of 16 class 69 locos now!

GBRF is growing exponentially. The thing I like about GBRF is everyone I've ever met there is overall friendly. I get the impression its a good company to work for, and that surely is reflected in its success.

Whilst not a very objective statement, I like the fact they do lots of nice liveries (although others are following this trend now, I think they pioneered it and are probably still leaders in this field)

69002 and 69005 at Rail Live today. I'm not a huge fan of the full yellow ends on 002, but 005 looks stunning.

It will be interesting to see which members of the class Bachmann chooses to produce, because I would love to have a model of 69005.

Had a spin out to Tonbridge today.
All 6 were in town.

The 69’s are looking a little weathered now.

69001 and 69006 (note the wagons have no drainage and so are slowly becoming a Bath).

Note. 69001has GBRF logo below the blue stripe on the cabside, 006 above. Also note the radio aerial mount on 001. (There are flags underneath that grime on 001).

69006 is the only clean one..

69004 (on the right, with 69002 and 69003 on the left)

Again note the different radio aerial mounts on the roof of 004, compared to 003, and note the cab windows on 003 (ex-Romanian) is not a slide pull down, but a knob.

003 has the GBRF logos on the cab below the boue band, like 001.

And finally a panoramic with all 6 in one photo…

Footbridge talk today was of 69007’s new livery.. its the “oldest” yet apparently.

I understand a change to the jumper mounting is coming too…

When the 69’s are done wouldnt Tonbridge make a great place for an open day ?  I think its not a bad place for a layout… its a Full Size fiddle yard… you could have two exhibition layouts in one with this track plan.. the fiddle yard as Freight/Stabling Point and carriage sidings, feeding out to the “other” layout front …

Also an old thread on here with some photos. Was one of those inspirational layouts for me when I saw it in Model Rail (possibly when that was still a supplement in Rail) :

Here are a couple of pics of my layout at home now it is retired. Heavily compressed to fit a space 18ft by 10ft. Set on NSE period although friends have run more modern stock.

Cheers.

Spoke to one of the Bachmann reps at ally pally today and said that they were going to do all of them and probably be ready for sale next year

cheers Craig

That may not be wise…

Reason being the real things havent yet been done, and so far each one is uniquely different. 69008 just emerged with a different front end to the rest, and two different cab roofs.

That promises at least five more differences between 69008-16 with 69013 (ex-56003 Romanian), and 69011 (ex-56032), 69008 (two different cab roofs) then theres a mix of at least 3 different roof aerial pod styles between the other 5.

To goto tooling now, with only half the fleet out of works risks a tooling suit that only serves the 69001-008 that have been completed… To do them all, means they need to see them all first… and 69015/69016 are still running trains for GBRF on their 56 power units…

Its taking 2 years to turn out 8 (50% of the fleet), around 1 per quarter, between each loco out of works. Assuming current progress thats delivery by Feb 2025 for all 16…

Thats a long way from the “one a month” reported in Dec 2020’s Rail Magazine, indeed they are all supposed to be here by now, on that measure.

Do they really need to wait for all to be produced? As long as Bachmann takes into account the areas that may be different on later locos, they can produce tooling that allows for different slides in those areas, e.g. cab roofs, but that doesn't mean they have to produce those slides now. They can be added to the tooling suite later once the design is finalised.

How are they supposed to account for tooling changes they don't know about? I expect it's a lot easier to do it right from the start.

Obviously they can't, but the discussion has been about specific areas such as front ends and cab roofs and combinations thereof. What I meant was that - as long as these areas are covered by separate slides, new slides can be produced later that are compatible with the rest of the tooling, so for these differences I can't see why Bachmann needs to wait. Of course if later locos were likely to see, for example, completely redesigned roofs or underframes, or new holes cut in the bodysides, then that's a different matter. But nobody has suggested that that is the case.
