Just received YouTube notification of a “brand new OO gauge” locomotive announcement tomorrow  from Hornby Magazine . The announcement has the logos of Heljan, locomotion Models and Rails of Sheffield . Should we infer from this the loco is in the national collection ?

That would be an entirely reasonable assumption.

Imo, Theres not much NRM stuff left to do that may be worth while.

J69 has to be a good potential, but Heljan hasnt done many steam locos.

26500 might be an interesting contender for non-steam it has a certain thing about it.

41001 prototype HST might be an odd ball

other than that its more outsiders like a class 84, Aerolite or a Tilbury tank and a few ever uninteresting LNER black goods locos… the heavy hitting stuff is all done.

mind boggles…

Steam: maybe GNR J13/LNER J52? but like already said, Heljan haven't done much steam

The prototype HST would be interesting, but would people just buy a power car?

No idea for electrics. The NER battery locos would be interesting

Perhaps after the TT snub Heljan have been working on a broad gauge Iron Duke and are launching their new gauge tomorrow?

yep NER Class ES1? -- something NER (LNER) flavoured, considering Rails' previous form in this area (ie the NER petrol-electric railcar thing), and Heljan's previous form on electric bo-bo locos (eg the Met locos)? and of course something quirky in the NRM collection--

No idea where the idea that Heljan don't do steam comes from?

Heljan must be well into double figures on the steam front.

1361, 1366, 47XX, Beyer-Garratt, GNR/LNER O2/1, O2/2. O2/3, O2/4

L&B Manning Wardle, L&B Baldwin

Then all the O gauge stuff and not counting the Danish models.

Unfortunately the NRM don't have an 8F. NER Q7 would be a good shout

I have a nasty feeling it's the E4. If so I'll stick with the Nucast version seeing as some of us badgered them about reissuing it.

Right, might aswell throw my chips in.

Possibly : Class 71

I think a new OO class 71 will be as popular as a new range of TT

tbh i’d like to think a class 84, as if that works an 82 and 83 surely will. But I think 26500 is more up Heljans street… (plus its got the added rub that ive got a kit of one done already and thats what usually happens !)…

good point--if we are talking steam, building on Rails' 'Precedent' success and on LMS lines I would love to see a Johnson 'Spinner'--

Unlikely : Class 40 & Class 50

Quite unlikely if my understanding is correct that as a Locomotion Models model the prototype will be in the national collection. No 40 or 50 in there *yet* unless I'm much mistaken

They've got both and they've already been done RTR.

40122 and 50033

Yh exactly. Although I would say that there are sharks in the water for that 50, I just wouldn't really expect it to come from Heljan... but they did do an O gauge version so who knows.

The class 40 from Bachmann, I have no idea how old it is.

I wonder if its Gladstone? Means Locomotion can do the preserved example, plenty of others for Rails, named engines always popular.
