Never heard one of those referred to by Shed Staff as a Locomotive!

P

Technically they are ‘units’. The definition of a locomotive is more aligned to a self propelled traction unit

Errrrrrr . . . . .   Yes,  they are.

They move themselves  -  they are "locomotive".

.

A ‘locomotive’ is a traction vehicle (or combination of several vehicles) that is not intended to carry a payload and has the ability to be uncoupled in normal operation from a train and to operate independently.

NBL class 84? That's owned by the NRM, although it is in custodianship of the ACLG at Barrow Hill. They have just done the 86, Bachmann have done the 85. So hopefully they are working through the AL's backwards.

It went to Bo'ness several years ago (as the last remaining mainline diesel or electric built by NBL) and is rumoured to be moving back south soon.

It also has possibilities as E3044 and others attended a number of open day events around the country in the late 1960s, and with clever tooling the Loadbank could also be produced. And it was also amongst a list that various manufacturers were rumoured to be looking at quite a few years ago, which resulted in the Met BoBo.

Borrowed time on that definition, given the source? 😉 Or will that Directive stay on?

And - does the HST power car not "count" (luggage space)? And a departmental EMU does?

I'll stick with "self powered". Heljan are doing a sneak move and going into clockwork. 🙃

Aren't they all just trains? 🤪

Nope. That's Newspaper speak and those that don't know the special Codes used by Signallers...

read that on FB too, so it has to be correct.

Gary

Actually a loco running light is a train so a loco can be a train (except when it hauling or propelling a train when it is a loco).

Great explanation/ background from Bob Gwynne on the announcement/ reveal video. The pre-production models appear good too.

Good work, Ben and Heljan.

EDIT: I'm watching via a Facebook link (wink!)  Hint - it's an eight wheeler.
