RMweb Gold Popular Post tetsudofan Posted April 21, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 21, 2020 Can't recollect planting any bluebells in the garden but some seem to have established themselves at the end of the garden. Maybe should encourage them and call the area Bluebell Gulch or something similar: Looking at the time think its time to turn in, just like something else did earlier this evening. We all need our rest: Pleasant dreams, Keith

RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted April 21, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 21, 2020 Talking of coals to Newcastle at the marshalling yard I used to work at in South Wales we were at one stage sending 2 -3 trainloads of coal a fortnight to Newcastle. I think I was just about the only person there who could see the irony in that traffic flow. 3 1 2

RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted April 21, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 21, 2020 Good evening everyone Today has been quite an productive day, I managed to get 2 coats of primer on the towel rail, the 1st after breakfast, the 2nd after dinner. In between these coats I spent the rest of the day in the workshop, working on the mark 2 version of the limit switch striker arm. I’m pleased to report that the mark 2 version is a lot more success than the mark 1 and will be the type that will eventually go into production. This version uses a tension spring to pull the arm into the notch instead of pushing it in. I’ve also added an adjustable striker so that the actuating striker can be fine tweaked. The arm is pivoted slightly off centre, so that a small movement at the roller end gives a proportionally greater movement at the striker end. I again tested it using the same sliding wooden bar with a notch filled into it, when the roller drops about 1mm, the striker moves approximately 1.5mm, this puts less strain on the arm and with the adjustable striker I can fine tweak the operation position so that there is virtually no play at all. The photos will make all this a little bit clearer. This photo shows the roller engaged, which would mean the turntable is in the stopped position. This photo shows the roller dis-engaged, which would mean the turntable is rotating. The steel rule is there to show the size of the arm and roller, which is 6mm diameter. This mock up was again made using off cuts and bits of scrap, but with a much better quality, thus there was no play in the pivot, or the striker arm. I just need to make a half dozen of these for the turntable, each one will be on its own separate fixing plate, thus meaning that the initial set up of the arm etc can take place at the work bench, before final installation takes place. However, before production takes place, I’ll make a small round disc and file a few notches into it and try it out on that first, just to make sure it works as accurately as it is now. Goodnight all 19
RMweb Premium Popular Post newbryford Posted April 21, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 21, 2020 No news is good news re:big bro. WFW has been worked FW. A few items that could not be carried out whilst WFH were done. WFW also coincided with collecting a parcel that had been delivered there (see the 100 things learnt whist in lockdown thread......) and then giving them a test around an oval-ish shaped object. WFH is the plan tomorrow (now later today) - I have spent part of this evening preparing emails to minimise the workload tomorrow. Proof reading and sending of them will start the day. There is a work Zoom meeting scheduled. That means at some point I'll have to get out of my PJs....... Bins to go out later. Have a good Wednesday folks. RMweb Premium Popular Post BR60103 Posted April 22, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 22, 2020 Interesting weather today. Pathches of snow accompanied by blue sky and sun. Sometimes dark cloud. Intermittent wind gusts. Frozen water lumps when we were out in the car. I'm working on a bit of plastic painted to look like teak. SWMBO is re-reading Gaudy Night, having just finished The Nine Tailors. She much appreciates her Christmas present which was a book called How to Read a Church. Friend Dave dropped off yesterday a couple of Carousels (for slide projector) and I left him a box of Ratio Pratt Truss Gantry, which I think is the last box of signal.s. It's now 11:10. Goodnight, all. 18 1

Popular Post chrisf
Greetings one and all It’s grim out there, folks. The latest high profile event to be cancelled is the Oktoberfest in Munich. It may be a surprise to some that it was not in my sights. October normally sees the relatively modest beer festival in Bedford, though the way things are going that won’t happen this year either. When I was a lot younger and the menu less comprehensive, it was perfectly feasible to sample a half pint of everything within the four days of the festival and I proved at least once that it could be done. It is all down to taste but in my limited experience some parts of mainland Europe are much better at making beer than others. Finding the good stuff can be both frustrating and fun. Against the odds I do hope that I get to Interlaken over the festive season this year, for in addition to the weissbier available in the hotel there is a craft beer shop in close proximity. If you are going to explore a town, do it properly. I watched the latest Channel 4 documentary about Amazon last night. Very little of what was said came as a surprise. I have not bought anything from the company for well over a year and have no immediate plans to do so. In one important respect they are like any other trader - you need to watch them very carefully. I wish I had watched “Our Girl” instead. Today there will be ironing and a fodder run. If I can concentrate more than over the past few days, there may be m*d*ll*ng too. Best wishes to all Chris 18

RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted April 22, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 22, 2020 Ey up! Sun shine .. slightly less windy this morning. A few people out jogging (once the pandemic is over there could be big queues at the Sports Clinics. Some news fron Horsetan (Ivam). He is still exercising the horse but doesnfeel 100%. Hope your health improves! Could be an interesting day. Lots of waltzing around the man doing some emergency house repairing. I have asked that he parks his van so that I can get the Beast out to get to our lawn mower as, pandemic or no pandemic, the grass needs a cut. Look after yourselves, stay in stay safe..do not go out and drive yourcar at 135mph in a 30mph limit (what a cockwomble/wit/doilum). Right Wednesday..lets be having you! My time is precious and I need the day to cooperate with my time plan!! Baz

RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted April 22, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 22, 2020 Good moaning from the Charente. It looks a bit sunny outside but there are clouds to the west. 2 lighting units were put up in the workshop are of the shed and tested with an extension lead. The next task is to link them into the existing lighting circuits. There are other potential tasks. Beth is having great success with growing veg from seed. This has progressed to the point where a barter system with others doing the same, has started to emerge. One potential task today is to take a consignment of plant pots to some friends, whilst using social distancing of course. One way or another the day will be seized and hopfully some muddling achieved. Regards to all, especially to those affected by the lurgi. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted April 22, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 22, 2020 Good morning all, Sunny here again and a fine dry and warm day forecast with temperatures creeping up to 20°C. Usual dose of Much Aching in The Back, Hip, Knee, Neck and Shoulder this morning to the extent that I'm almost seized up. Another walk is scheduled to try and loosen things up. After that it will be time for my (now) daily visit to The Shed. This is a major turnaround after losing my mojo for weeks/months. Goods sidings area to finish then I can turn my attention to the engine shed. Still debating about whether to fit a turntable but it will take up quite a lot of room which may not leave me enough space for something else I've got planned. Also just realised how much track there is to paint and ballast. Not looking forward to that. The Boss has been grumbling about having nothing to do and then saying that there is housework that urgently needs attention. I will suggest putting 2 + 2 together! Have a good one, Bob. 14
