What are these bank branches of which you speak ?

 

Here, the banks are doing their best to close down almost all branches.

Anyway, herself is safely home.  She is now back on her regular pain relief and Insulin regimes, both of which seem to be working.  Her regular pain relief is higher than what the hospital prescribed for post op relief.  It seems that they have a strict protocol that the nurses dare not deviate from.  Learning points for ant future admissions.  However she is doi g well and we are adjusting in terms of what she needs help with and what she is able to do for herself.

We already have two domiciles (although the suggestion, when mentioned to Mrs iD, was received warmly). Lucy would be very happy, though. We are lucky as at present we have all the banks except HSBC. The only one in the area was in Reigate but that was the last bank left in that town and it closed a couple of years ago.

 

When mum wants to go to a bank her closest ones are 8 miles away and are ours but nowhere to park close enough to them for to be able to walk from the car.

 

At the moment though, she is in hospital receiving antibiotics after a fall Saturday night whilst we were away. Plenty of watching the CCTV at her place and telephone calls with the ambulance crew and home response teams on Sunday morning. We also had calls from the response team and the Police Saturday morning when her cleaner couldnt get any response when she pressed the door bell. Luckily she was fine then but couldnt hear the buzzer due to having the tv on loud but for a while I wasnt doing much operating on a friends layout at the Swiss Society do in Kidderminster.

 

Back home now after 11 days away. My othe half did enjoy the Bala lake railway finding Alice.

He was dismissed from the service for "exerting excessive force on a suspect's genitalia" (in other words he was kicked out for tearing off a scrote's b****!).

 

He's a gentle soul, but a fearsome devil if he gets p****d off...

Last time I was living in Driffield, Beefy was giving it some hump against the Aussies...

 

In the last 20 years the 9 closest banks have closed, and another half dozen building society offices have gone. it's now at least a 40 mile round trip to find one.. we are lucky in that the second nearest post office is one, that is it's not a sub post office. So it has a near full range of services.

 

The post office in Horning has closed a few weeks ago, it had a side line in tourist tat and Jigsaws, there were no takers to buy the business. So they are opening a small sub post office counter in a newspaper / minor food stuffs and things tourists forget  shop, that's a few yards away. The post office building is becoming a dog grooming business.

Finished reading " Behind the Enigma, The Official History of GCHQ", this is a sister volume to " Defence of the Realm, The Authorised History of MI5" it's another huge volume of 848 pages, or over 30 hours in the audible version.

Very interesting, but a maze of acronyms, so you are forever switching between the narrative and the notes at the back of the book.. I prefer acronyms notes are at the bottom of the page.

I note throughout the book the number of times GCHQ, found themselves scrabbling to catch up as their political masters suddenly change tack, normally due to outside events. The book finishes approximately in 2000 but the odd reference up to 2020. I'm betting cut backs  and " refocusing" meant that there has been panicked changes to keep a check on Russia, which was heavily cut back after the fall of the USSR.

 

I suppose I aught to buy the history of MI6 to complete the set.

I'm just sitting quietly waiting for the groceries to come, hopefully sometime in the next 40 minutes.  It's sunny and mild but the breeze is still off the sea so it won't get too warm.

 

Apparently an osprey has been seen a few miles away further along the coast.  Some "very silly" (polite expression) people have been climbing over barriers put up to give it some peace to take their photos.  One even had a dog with her.

 

I hope to do my monthly accounts later on, if it stays nice I may go out for a while along the coast.

I may have been unclear. The electricity supply people pay for the electricity I supply to them with a cheque. This is a cheque that does not have a signature. My bank phone apps do not recognise it as a cheque. There are no bank branches in Benfleet. The Post Office does allow cheque paying in and will transfer it to my bank account.

It's American gun culture, the only answer is to impose some sort of gun control. But that culture is so embedded in society that particular horse has bolted.

The beauty of my batteries is that they are linked to the web. This means that you can log on to a website and set when you want them to charge and how much you want them to discharge. If this wasn't possible then your entirely in the hands of the electricity supplier.Not certain if this is a bad thing but it certainly gives me more control.

 

One other thing I have is a device called a Harvey- not certain why it's called that. This allows me to heat my hot water tank up from the batteries. So when I turn the gas boiler off this summer it won't have to turned on until the Winter as I'll be getting hot water from the sun. That to me is definitely why I think all houses should have panels.

A bright sunny start to the day here in England’s northwest corner, although there is a slight breeze. Thankfully this isn’t anything like the wind we had yesterday, although to be fair, I didn’t think it was that bad! The plans for today are to head off to Tatton Park and have a walk around the grounds, possibly stopping at the restaurant for a drink and a slice whilst we’re there.

Today's fun and games involve staying in this am qhile 30747 goes into Ludow for a quick mooch round the shops, followed by getting the bus about lunch time to go to Specsavers to have a hearing test, as I am getting a bit deaf - no doubt they will try to sell me a very expensive hearing aid - no chance as we both need new glasses this year - and if our last change is anything to go by, we are looking at almost £1000 between us - I have high grade varifocals, and 30747 has a complex prescription which has to be made up in as thin a material as possible.

What I omitted to mention earlier is that I have an appointment with the dental hygienist at 10.30 so will leave here at 10.15 for  a slow hobble round the corner.   On the way back I need to visit Asda to collect some more milk.  Boy, isn't it exciting at the moment here in the Land of Sutt?  I can't contain myself!  🤪
