RMweb Premium TheQ Posted April 30 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 30 Afternoon Awl, again , just lost all the text I'd typed. The something that SWMBO wanted down the mobile home, was a mouse or rat had eaten its way into the kitchen. It had come through the under sink cupboard.. so that was emptied of nibbled leaking bottles, a pile of chewed up rubber gloves it had used as a nest, and a packet of bird seed spread everywhere.. The shelf was lifted out, then the false floor needed cutting up to lever it out, as it was nailed in place. The hole was there to the left, but there was another piece of plywood stuck to the floor elsewhere. That was levered out to show another hole in the floor.. I suspect in the past the sink / piping has leaked and made the 3/4 inch ply floor soft.. A 3/4 ply board has been cut to size and into two to make a snug fit floor cover. This needs painting before final fitting, I also wish to fit a steel or mesh plate below the floor. Ben then took me for his long full walk, they were spraying the field again, of which we got a niff, as we crossed up wind of it, then we went parallel to the field as the sprayer was doing the area behind our garden , so our garden will have got some over spray. Lots of flutterbys and dragonflys about, dandelions showing themselves in swaths . Some work has been done on the club accounts a lot more todo as I wish to modify the spreadsheets for this coming year. Then an eyelid inspection was carried out, shortly I'll head for the kitchen to find something for the evening meal. 14

At first I thought they were like "Deltics", which everyone on here seemed to use as a unit of money so I assumed that they too were some kind of cryptocurrency that you were all trading in. Turns out its some cake thing. Theres only 3 cakes in the southern hemisphere, the lamington, the Pavlova and the other one that I've forgotten at the moment due to it being after midnight. Midnight? 🤔 Its barely 4pm! 🤪🤪🤪 Speaking of cakes, I should have had a Cinnamon Bun with my mid-afternoon cuppa, but I forgot. Oh well, it'll keep for tomorrow.... RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted April 30 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 30 (edited) Shortly after my post this morning the groceries came, 2 missing items but with a pack of Serrano ham I didn't order- I suspect as a replacement for a missing pack but it wasn't charged for. I think I give up trying to understand how supermarkets work. As it stayed fine after the groceries came I decided the accounts could wait until tomorrow and instead went to Seaton Sluice and had a walk a long the cliffs to St Mary's Island. The wind was cool but the sun was warm so it was enjoyable. There was plenty to see, a pair of partridges, some pheasants, a number of skylarks, a kestrel hunting along the cliff edge along with the usual gulls and waders. I saw saw house martins and a swallow. There was one very loud cricket but when I went to try to see where it was the noise stopped. As soon as I moved away it started again. The first Rosa rugosa flowers were out along with some May (hawthorn) blossom. I arrived at the island just as a coachload of primary school pupils arrived, one of the teachers had a megaphone to tell them what to do. I decided not to stay long as they were going to be allowed to "explore" the area so started to walk back. By coffee time I was back home, then I sorted out the morning's photos anddid odds and ends in the house until lunchtime. This afternoon I've done some weeding, fed the greenhouse plants, sorted out more prints ready to scan, done a couple of word puzzles and had a short rest. The photos are from the walk, some taken with my phone, others with the Canon Ixus. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted April 30 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 30 (edited) A'noon all, Well the morning did get slightly more exciting because when I arrived at the dental surgery to see the hygienist I was informed I was also seeing the dentist for a check up. That was news to me but not to worry and nothing to worry about as everything was found to be in good order. When I got home I decided to do some end of month admin work and was pleasantly surprised to find that the month hadn't consumed all the funds set aside for bills etc so a bit of wedge has found its way into the BB&MF.* Feeling a bit left out of the LDC conversations because I haven't had much cake of any description for a while. Trying to lose a bit of weight although TBH not trying very hard so have been stuck on 13stone13lbs for about a month. At least it hasn't gone up. Target is 13 stone 7lbs or even a bit less but we'll see. More strenuous exercise would help but was advised to wait at least 3 months after my hernia op before doing press ups and sit ups etc. That time has now elapsed but I haven't got a round tuit. Certainly had no problems since the op and have been quite comfortable lifting stuff up to about 20kg** recently so it might be time to have a go. Tonight I will be in air fryer mode and making a frittata type thingy as we have a surplus of eggs. Not quite decided what else is going in it yet, depends on what I find in the fridge. * Bob's Booze & Modelling Fund. ** That's just made me laugh when I think that in my (early) working life humping a cwt (50 kg) bag of cement or sand on my shoulder was not that difficult. Don't think my old ravaged frame could take that now. Edited April 30 by grandadbob 18

RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted April 30 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 30 I've just been looking at the local(ish) news on the web. A group of knitters in Ripon have knitted a full size Churchill tank to commemorate D Day. Meanwhile in Northumberland Ad Gefrin, the Anglo Saxon museum in Wooler which amongst other things celebrates the old Northumbrian royalty is progressing with its production of Northumberland malt whisky. I wonder what it will be like when it is matured in a two or three years time. The police have charged two men in connection with the felling of the Sycamore Gap tree and with criminal damage to Hadrian's Wall. Some interesting things for a change. Bear: [Thinking "Oh Sh1t"] "Er, have you got the answer on your screen?" Company Lady Says: "Yes, Mr. Bear...." somewhat tersely..... RMweb Gold grandadbob Posted April 30 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 30 Evenin' each, The B'sterd apparently killed a 14 year old boy on his way to school. Prison is far too good for that ar$ehole. Still no bloody Sim card! Slightly better news received in the post is that my company pension is being increased next month. Not so good is that by the time the tax man, energy company, insurance companies, water supplier & sewage disposal, local council and very other b#gger under the sun has had their slice there won't be much, if anything, left for Bobby! ION I have fried some air and a frittata type thingy was made and it was very tasty and passed testing by Her Bossness so will go on ze list to be done again. Maybe a bit too brown on top but the important thing is we enjoyed it. I'm also enjoying a glass of Portuguese Red and there is a drop more in the bottle to finish up. It's a hard old life but I'm coping. 😁

RMweb Gold grandadbob Posted April 30 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 30 (edited) @polybear Nope PB, very easy 'cos I can do it! 😂 Break 5 eggs into jug and give a gentle whisk and set aside. Take 5 rashers of bacon (cut into small strips) , a tomato cut into smallish pieces, some peas*, some onion* and some cheese*. ( *I just guessed the amounts of all these). Season well and mix it all together. Preheat your Cosori to 190°C. Add mixture to a greased or oiled liner and pour over whisked eggs and cook for about 15 minutes and that's it. I think next time I do it if I use bacon I might cook the bacon for a couple of minutes before everything else as I prefer it a little more well done but it was cooked, if you use ham there'd be no need. You could use sausages and add any veggie bits you like. That made enough for the two of us, about 300g each as we don't eat huge amounts HTH. Other); I could carry on fine-tuning until Doomsday - but at some point I really do need to say "good enough" so I can print off hard copies for storage with the relevant people and in relevant places - there's no point keeping on & on forever cos' all the work will be of no use whatsoever if the files are buried on a Lappy hard drive..... RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted April 30 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 30 Evening. Miserable day so not much achieved really, although a small amount of unspecified pottering was, well, pottered. Mate H was good company, and is much relieved to have found his on-board nastiness has not advanced, and his recent malaise was due to something else. He was a theatre scrub nurse so knows only too well what he is dealing with. The world was corrected, although we hadn't heard about the tragedy at that time. Weight loss here is muchly following GDB's in that I was 14st, and am now 12st 10lbs, 9 is occasionally showing on the scales but I'm a bit stuck. My ideal weight is 12st dead, but I'm not sure I'll get down to that, I like my grub too much. 3

A "Deltic" can vary between £124 and £600 (depending upon scale etc. etc.). So when someone moans that X cost 2 Deltics, you have to ask: did it cost £248 or £1200 (or somewhere in between).... No, no, no. The official (but unpublished) definition of the Deltic unit of currency specifically refers to the cost of a standard, non-DCC fitted, Accurascale OO Gauge Deltic and thus the generally accepted conversion rate between Sterling and the Deltic is £170 = 1 Deltic. * Occasionally the Deltic unit of currency can be prefixed with "Noisy" which is the same model fitted with a DCC sound decoder and is thus of higher value. Think of it as the Deltic equivalent of Sterling's Guinea only more expensive. * I have just checked the Accurascale website and the currency is extremely stable and the exchange rate remains constant. Rather annoyingly I notice they are going to re-run Deltics to celebrate the company's birthday which means I'm going to have to go to the trouble of resisting purchasing one all over again! That's going to be very, very difficult. And to think I celebrate another orbit of the sun in the not too distant future too. Don't think my old ravaged frame could take that now. I immediately thought of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight but couldn't understand the inclusion of the "&". All became clear with your later clarification. Both causes, with or without an "&" are of of course both valid and worthy of further funding injection. ION I've been waiting for two EBay purchases to turn up now for over a week. Both were rubber drive bands for potential use in the Chronometric speedo calibrator. I received an Email from seller#1 to say that the order had been dispatched with an ETA of yesterday. I then received a number of Emails from two different, strangely named, organisations I've never heard of saying they'd received my parcel and it was in transit and somewhere along the line a tracking number. Having been out for a good bit of yesterday it was of course the Law of S0D that dictated that an attempt would be made to deliver said parcel while we were out. And so it came to pass. After my return I received yet another Email this time from Herpies 😉 (or whatever it is called these days) to say how sorry they were to have missed me and they would attempt to re-deliver the parcel the following day. I followed the tracking info and it revealed two things; a small map with X marks the spot showing the location of my house and a photograph of my house albeit at a very jaunty angle and almost completely inverted to, presumably, prove that delivery had been attempted. Cynical old Puppers did wonder for a few seconds whether they'd only actually visited virtually but to go to such trouble seems a mite pointless. Today, we planned to go out as it was one of our days to look after Junior Junior Puppers #2 so we thought a drive to and a nice stroll around the Swiss Gardens would help him nod off for his mid-morning snooze. Not wishing to tempt fate for a second time I added additional delivery info (i.e. If out please leave next door) AND added the same info to an A5 sheet of paper with a font** size ~ 30 and stuck it in very plain sight on the front door. ** For those interested in fonts (there must be one), the font used was "Alan's finest GP's hand script" which as everyone will appreciate is a constantly changing fontparticularly after a couple of G&Ts 🤪 Needless to say, on our return, the "Second Coming" had indeed occurred. The parcel was probably 4" x 3" x 0.5". The operative pushed it through the letter box ....... 🤣 The second Ebay seller hasn't even sent a message to say my order has been dispatched! I think I need to make use of one of @polybear 's single descriptive words. The one beginning with a T should suffice. Just as an Endnote on this story: A day or two after those orders were placed I placed a third order with another supplier for some plastic grommet strip. That arrived on Saturday and was fitted to the front panel of the calibrator within 15 minutes of its arrival. Fortunately I found in one of my "These bits will come in useful one day" boxes a single rubber, cassette or VCR drive band which fits the bill perfectly, is installed and working so I actually have no use other than to replenish the really useful bits box for the first two orders .... Sometime ago I became aware of a book by a chap called Tim Hillier-Graves entitled "Gresley and his L*c*m*t#v@s L & NER Design History. It might have been mentioned on Tony W's thread I can't remember. Anyway I ordered a copy, it wasn't particularly cheap at ~0.25 Deltics, it arrived, I put it in the bookcase for when I got a roundtuit. And today I did. I've had a cursory glance through it but not read any of it yet. I do hope the text is good because IMVHO the reproduction of most of the photographs is truly appalling. Many are very flat, many are very dark and many are "sepia" toned which I presume was done for "artistic effect" as I think I recall that at least some of those I have seen reproduced in normal black and white in excellent publications such as "LNER Reflections" all those years ago. As I say, the text had better make up for it otherwise this will be one well and truly miffed Puppers and no one would like one of those! And to finish on a high. A few photos of our very pleasant visit to Shuttleworth this morning. I spent quite a lot of time admiring the two Cambridge Flying Group Tiger Moths which were being preped for and then flown. Puppers came to the conclusion that perhaps some of his disposable income should be disposed of ...... A 30 minute flight costs ~0.75 Noisy Deltics. They can actually take you right through to your PPL (surely learning in a Tiger has got to be the best way to get there!) but that I fear would cost many, many, many Noisy Deltics so maybe not. There was some interesting activity in the engineering hangar with investigation work going on on the Bristol Monoplane's le Rhone. As the front crankcase cover was off you could clearly see the master rod and the slaves - a feature of (all?) rotaries (proper ones not those new-fangled Wankel jobbies!) and radials. Right oh, it must be bed time! Night.
