Muddling at the MRC went well, except waiting for ages for super glue to set...

 

Some discussion over accounts, several bills to pay /  file receipts.

Have made further decisions on format of new spreadsheets, 1 will become 4, thereby each feeding it's own quarterly result sheet.. once made no further readdressing of lines will be needed therefore less chance for me to make a mistake.

The temperature dropped suddenly at about 20:30,  we'd had a small bit of soggyness outside, just enough to wet everything..

 

Three possible new members will be visiting soon. Oh good, gimmee the money...

A Bristol Mercury if I'm not mistaken. You may notice four valves per cylinder, not bad for an engine designed in the late 1920's.

I’m afraid that all that high-octane, high-speed “bimbling” must have affected @PupCam‘s faculties. I think Puppers might be talking out of his exhaust regarding the definition of “A Deltic” as a currency unit.
 

Firstly, WHO decided upon the Accurascale OO model as the financial benchmark for a “Deltic”, why not the Heljan Sound and DCC equipped model (about £600)? Was this decided upon by ALL stakeholders and enshrined in law?

 

Is the “Deltic” on the Gold Standard (i.e. 1 Deltic equals X amount of gold held in a reserve bank)? Furthermore, to be a recognisable currency it has to be exchangeable against other currencies. Is The Deltic pegged against the US Lionel Trains “Big Boy”? How does it compare with the KATO Hayabusa Shinkansen now that the Yen is weaker than last year?

 

Or perhaps The Deltic is like the North Korean won (aka the Democratic People's Republic of Korea won), essentially worthless outside of ERs

 

Somehow I don’t think Warren Buffet has invested in Deltics…..

I never had much of an interest in Deltics as they were almost gone when I started travelling around the country by train but Cromptons and Hoovers were my thing. I recently found 10 cromptons in the loft and all still runnig. I do have a few Hoovers lurking somewhere.

The weak yen is splendid, I  have been making hay while the sun shines with Chinese and Japanese model trains. I use Japanese buying services to access Yahoo Japan auctions and shopping and sites like Mercari, the fee is trivial (500 yen) and I find Japanese sellers honest with descriptions. In recent weeks I have bought a pair of DF4B diesels by Haidar and a Shaoshan 1 electric by N27, all factory finished and painted HO brass. Beautiful models (as good as Japanese and Korean brass) and price for three recent models, mint, boxed with all paperwork and accessories  (all three look unused) was about £670 including shipping and GST from Yahoo auctions which is a steal (that's more or less price new for one of them). I also got a JR EF63 electric by Endo, factory finished and painted brass, the latest release, a stunning model. That was more expensive but still a third of price new. For anyone interested in Japanese stuff accessing Japanese sites via buying services is well worth a look. There are similar services in China too.

Nice day at Driffield .. excellent teas, warmer weather but... my colleague made a couple of major screw ups wch badly impacted the outcome of the game.

 

Very late home as the A64 eas closed for overnight roadworks...pah! Today its off up the A64 (again) for a game near Malton. I had been asked to umpire games on thursday and Friday but I am off the a show in Bristol on Thursday.. and.. I am a semi retired umpire...

Good moaning from a grey and overcast and soon to be damp Charente.  Nurse Rachedd here. I am becoming experienced in giving insulin injections and how to put on an imobiliing sling.  I am probably  still at the apprentice stage and very likely will not rise above that, however the washing is done and we are fed and watered by my hand. No one has yet complained that they are dying of either thirst or starvation.  Meantime I am pondering the best  way to reduce a piece of seasoned oak  from 180 x 180 by 1000 mm to165 by 165 by 850, then make an overlap joint into the existing pillar. I will probably secure the joint with oak pegs.

I rmembered to say White Rabbits this morning before I got up.  It is dull wiht a featureless grey sky, it may rain in a bit.

 

There is not much on the to do list today, just the accounts I didn't get done yesterday.  I also need to go to a shop as I forgot to order any tomatoes and only realised when I looked this morning and noticed there aren't any.  I might also go to see if the level crossing really has reopened to road traffic today, then on a sunny day I'll go and take photos.

 

Apart from that hopefully some more scanning and yet another attempt to find better places to put some things which are cluttring up the kitchen.

I remembered to say “Oss Oss” and replied to myself (because Dr SWMBO is away midweek) with “Wee Oss”. 
 

Padstow marks May Day in its own way. Not quite as unique as they like to think but special nonetheless. That thumping drum is like the heartbeat of Spring. 
 

I’ll not be there this year. It’s not too far but there’s work to be done here, it’s Muddling Afternoon and I need an early night because I’m on watch first thing tomorrow. 
 

No drunken shenanigans around the maypole for this Gwiwer then. But I’ll enjoy re-living the memories 🙈🙉🙊

Well, the weather can’t make its mind up today, one minute it’s dark and looks like it could rain at any moment, the next it’s bright sunshine! Anyway, I’m going to chance it and try and get a bit of work done in the garden, I’ve also got a few more seeds that I’d like to get sown too. If the weather turn, I can always find something to do in the workshop 😉

I  had a slight diversion to get to work today because I had to pick something up so while I was in the vicinity I checked out the state of  Warragamba Dam, the main water supply for Sydney.

 

 

 

 

After a couple of years of rain the reservoir is full to the brim and the floodgates were opened a couple of weeks ago when we copped that 170mm overnight. There's still a trickle coming out though the centre gate though its  a bit hard to spot in the photos, and if we get the rain they are forecasting over the next 5 days or so, it'll be overflowing yet again!

 

 

 

One of the 4 original emergency stop valves built in the UK in the 1950's   -  replaced in the early 2000's with some  built in Germany instead.

Yes indeed.  I believe I'm correct in saying that at one of the displays this year there will be 4 in the air simultaneously; 2 in the Blenheim, 1 in the Lysander and the 1 in the Gladiator (photo).  

 

Should be good!    They have a very mellow sound to them I think.

My postie is very reliable as are most of the delivery companies around here. The one exception is UPS which is dire.
