Coming up for midnight here, and it's starting to cool off a bit. To bed, perchance to snore.

I spent a frustrating day wrestling with a 3-D printer. Here's the result - (yes, I know this is a violation of ER rules)

That's a piece of SMP track, and the dodgy looking sleeper was made on the printer. It sort of works, but the chairs a still too fragile. To improve the printer's resolution I even had to make an extruder nozzle with a 0.25 mm (10 thou) bore - only broke two drills in the process!

"But why would you want to do that?" you might well ask. If I can get it to work, I have an idea that the printer could crank out plastic bases for all manner of turnouts. I'm pretty sure it will work for flat-bottom rail, but I wanted to see if it was possible with bullhead rail. The jury is still out.

Morning all, it's a beautiful blue sky over Borough Market Junction with not a cloud in sight. It's forecast for anything up to 33 here later, which will make catching the train home a joy! Assuming it's not the wrong sort of sun of course and the rails buckle. I suspect that at times like these is when the fragility of the London Bridge arrangements will become evident.

I'm in a little early today as Younger Lurker is off school with an ear infection (mild). He's been given an antibiotic ear spray - I've not seen one of those before). This is good because it allows me to nip off a little earlier this evening - Mrs Lurker is out with a friend and needs me to get home.

Even better the boss is now in early - his first day back from hols. I'd better crack on. Have a good day all!

. I've also just come across the work of Kathy Reichs (due to finding the Bones TV series amusing). .

I think you will find the Kathy Reichs books MUCH better than the TV series (amusing? maybe not) that they spawned. I do hope you will be reading them in chronological order.

A muggy 16degC at 6.30am, short sleeved shirt weather for walking the dogs.

Hope all goes well at the interview Andy.

I think any gardening today will have to be quite light as the old joints are feeling the affects of yesterday's labours!

Keep cool.

Gordon or someone will know:

If Conway Golf Club charges £60-£70 per round, does that make a 4 Ball worth about £250?

If so, it's a very generous Raffle Prize for a tiny village appeal.

Generally a four ball will be four times the green fee.  Just for info here are their green fee charges.  They do vary considerably based on the time of the year or the day of the week.

There may be limitations applied to their offer e.g. mid week only or validity within a specific period, so may be worth checking before stating a value of the prize.

Good morning from red dragon land. Sun out front, cloudy out back.

Washing day, for me, today - the Station fencing and the Signal Boxes at JoLR.  Hope it's just the dirt I remove and not the paint.  :jester:

Have a good day all.

Wow, those fees put model railway expense into perspective.  :mosking:

Thanks, Gordon.

Even at the 'off peak' rates, it still makes it a very generous raffle prize.

(We're talking a 'cloakroom ticket' type raffle - £1 a strip.

As the Social Club hasn't got a Council registration number yet, they can only be sold on the day.)

Golf appears to be an expensive business.

Not only the bats to buy and lost balls to replace but huge (to me) green fees to pay on top.

I guess all things are relative.  Shelling out for a meal and tickets for a West End Show makes golf appear to be an absolute bargain….:-)

…and who thought we'd be paying £30-£45 for a coach for this 'cheap' hobby of ours.

Morning all,

Late on parade again but happy with what I've achieved!

Andy(leopard), such pain often results when we put muscles to uses that they are not accustomed to! Have you been fully trained in driving such a device? Sorry to hear you've caught the good lady's cold - I prefer a finger (at least) of single malt to ward off the bugs myself. Doesn't cure you but makes the symptoms easier to bear!

Dave(TG), another fine set of images, I particularly like the composition of the last one which would grace a commercial calendar! How are you and 'the boss' bearing up under the strain of waiting for important news?

DD, as to your plant problem, you could always cite a mystery virus like the one that got all the 'Busy Lizzies'?

Simon, I think DD gave very good advice when he suggested visiting the A5, designed in it's entirety by that famous son of Dumfriesshire, Thomas Telford! It exists today, almost entirely as it was built and and has certainly stood the test of time. There are some lovely views along it! His famous Conway Bridge is worth a visit as well! Hope the weather is kind to you and that you both enjoy the break.

John(KB), what fetching head-gear - the midges there must be as infamous as those across the water in Dumfries and Galloway. I recall, when we were very young, mum and dad took us on a camping holiday from Dumfries to Glen Trool, using an ex-scout bell tent - he resorted to burning loco cleaner's oily rags from Dumfries shed in the open flap of the tent to try to keep the little bug****s at bay!!

BoD, thank you very much for bringing us some good news today - let's hope some of our other sufferers can do the same soon!

Have a good Tuesday all,

Kind regards,

Jock.

G'night all!

.....the summons to the hospital to see the consultant is imminent Jock...Is will be ringing them this morning. In the meantime our motto is straightforward....if in doubt go out, or go on holiday.....this continual distraction ensures that we pass the wait as quickly and in as good a spirits as possible.

Is will now go straight to the cancer centre next week to see the oncologist. She has cancer in one breast and several bone areas but not in her major organs. The specialist nurse has several ladies in their 7th and 8th years on the same likely treatment path....therefore we fix on that and take outings and holidays as opportunities arise. A full mastectomy and most likely a hip replacement will feature too.

Is's only hint at possible issues on the horizon was a spell of feeling unwell, which she couldn't attribute to anything, last year. No other heralds of this.

Dave

I note that a few pages back, there were references to Llandudno.

I ought to make it quite clear, and perhaps as a warning, that the last person who insulted Llandudno and it's inhabitants, in the presence of my mother in law, now hops around her garden. catching flies with their tongue!

A fine and sunny day here in the land of the Telf, which bodes well for the imminent arrival of the new workshop.

As an aside, one of the last boxes I removed from the old workshop had the missing set of Dave Frank's buffers on the top of it.

This was great news, as they'd been missing for ages.

Now I have to find the wagon they were destined for!

Morning All

Fully caught up now, and a whole lot going on with fellow ERs - I've rated posts, but as ever, there's rather a lot to comment on each entry separately.  Yet another trip to town needed today, as my new glasses have arrived, so the usual fun and game with getting used to the new lenses, as I've changed the make of varifocal as the ones that I've been using are really getting to silly money.  Best to go by bus, methinks.....

I'll try to pop back later.

Regards to All

Stewart

Morning all from an already hot and sunny Estuary-Land. I decided to sort out some items for the club sales stall this weekend before it got too hot. Among the items is a pair of 2'X4' baseboards that were made for me by a friend who was a professional carpenter but I have never used. They have a wooden frame with plywood tops and joined together to make one 8'X2' board using brass dowels and 5mm bolts. Is £25 too much or too little an asking price? I have no idea of what it is worth.

If I could get there, I'd snap them up at that price, in fact I reckon they're worth double that.

Morning all,

A bit calmer here now our daughter is back from holiday and granddaughter has gone home - always a downside though as Joanna has just referred to the list of chores, and with her shoulder still out of order, I can guess what that means!

Dave(TG), thanks for the update on Is, I'm certain that your method of coping is ideal, with all that beauty around you (and I include your garden in that - it is looking superb!). I'm going to send you a short PM when I finish this!

Baz, (or 'Baez' as the iPad spell checker would have it!), tonight's Fleetwood Mac concert is bound to bring back memories - dates me when I say 'Man of the World' was in the charts when I was at university! I understand that Christine McVie has rejoined the line-up and so amazingly, the band is again as originally formed! I used to lust after Stevie Nicks, and still find her attractive. Hope you enjoy it!

Andy(leopard), A great number of my wheelchair user clients at the garage (we specialised in Mobility) used to make the same comment about not being seen - I instructed all my staff to pull up a chair next to theirs and deal with them on the same level! I have to agree with your comment on the motorised wheelchairs, especially those that our local Tesco supply - I can remember a large rotund lady once managed to knock down my late mother-in-law who was in her eighties at the time. 'Sorry, I lost control' was the comment although in fact she looked incapable of controlling anything. It was lucky that she was only shaken and not badly hurt! Hope you don't have to endure the indignity for much longer.

Ian(OLdddudders), I've just seen the BBC weather forecast for your area and it does indeed look as if a lot of chilled liquid refreshment may be called for! Your comment on Alison's intelligent son is interesting - Freddie, our great grandson, is very advanced for a four year old and his nursery school reports an intelligence well above average. Net result of this is that he is to be checked for Autism or ADHD as he is often like the lad in your experience. Strange thing is that, if you give him a difficult task which stretches him, he is no trouble at all so when he stays with us I simply find things to do which will occupy his mind. Makes you wonder if the mis-behaving is a result of boredom or frustration? News of more disruption at Calais today, so I truly hope it doesn't spread to your intended departure port for the imminent trip to the arms of your loved one!

Out with the sun-cream as I'll probably escape out into the garden after ferrying the great grandson to nursery - must remember the hat as well with the hair getting thin. Just been told I'm daft enough already without adding sunstroke!!

Hope the week is progressing as well as you'd wish it to,

Kind regards,

Jock.

Also, perhaps sadly given its medicinal properties, I can't stand the taste or even smell of whisky, apologies to all our Celtic types - it's just 'orrible. :(

No need for apologies, Andy - all the more for the rest of us!

The RSPB sanctuary on the roundabout from the A55 to Conway is worth a visit.

The A5 towards Llangollen is always spectacular.

Lots of 'Little Train' interest about.

Thanks for the ideas!  I actually know the area very well, as I have relatives here, and have been coming here on and off all my life.  As it happens, we are only about a mile from the RSPB santuary, directly over the river.  We are within walking distance of Conwy and know the town well.  I will post a photo of the view we have in due course - it is one of my favourite views!

The morning so far has been spent trying to trim hedges etc to maintain the view, but it is warm work, even just dressed in sandals & shorts!

Now that is something I would like to see! A P&O Ferry in Boulogne again.

prideKent_zpswaisbuct.png

Given the current Industrial Action in Calais, it would appear that P&O are sending their smaller ships to Boulogne. According to Marine Traffic, the Pride Of Burgundy is already there, and the Pride of Kent is on the way.

G'day all,

Doctor duly visited for my 'diabetic check' - seemed ok and I'm also being prescribed an alternative to statins so fingers are crossed that it works and without the side-effects.

Very sunny, very hot and the town in its busy week.  Also an interesting road traffic order in force from tomorrow which shuts one section of main road for 14 hours a day and that could get interesting as this is a new one although one artic loaded with a 20ft container seemed to be practicing for it today as he eventually made his way into and through the car park (a well trodden diversionary route).  The more I see of all this the more attractive the Beaconsfield show becomes for this Saturday!

Have a good day one & all.
