Evening everyone

As usual, on our way back from the Trafford Centre we called at the butchers to pick up the weekly meat rations.

After dinner I made one of my fruit tea loaves, which as usual made the house smell rather nice.

Our guests arrived as usual just after 4:30 this afternoon and we then spent a very pleasant couple of hours before they headed off for home. But typically, just after they had left, my watch battery died, so it will have to wait until next week to give it to James to replace.

All day I've been struggling with a very painful right thigh. I don't know what I've done, as I don’t recall knocking or anything, but last night whilst I was swimming, I felt as though I was going to get cramp, but never actually got cramp. When I woke up this morning, it felt a little sore and has not improved at all during the day. So, if there is no improvement tomorrow, the plan is to take it easy and just potter about in the workshop.

Goodnight all.

It's all a function of programming as well. The evening network news is the worst - the 6:00pm news demographic trends much older than the coveted 18 - 40ish demographic in official prime time (8:00 - 10:00pm) and is chock full of remedies for many conditions. The ones for conditions like restless leg syndrome and dry eye or dry mouth syndrome really do feel over the top.

All of a sudden, there is a raft of heavy duty medications that apparently had side effects of clearing up skin conditions, which now seems to be their primary marketed purpose. The variety of medications offered for psoriasis is stunning. (I'm thinking of one in particular used for rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis.) I very much doubt these drugs were actually developed to help patients with psoriasis. I suspect that they work in the same way that steroids clear up skin too.

Anything that "may cause lymphoma or even death" seems a bit much for a couple of patches of itchy skin.

There's a long list of "diseases" that were synthesized by the pharmaceutical "industry" in the US. In addition to the ones you mention there's GERT (heartburn), Low-T in men (low testosterone, AKA old age), osteopenia (also old age), and pretty much anything with S for syndrome tacked on the end of the acronym.

Greetings!

I am looking for a camera to fit in my porch ceiling. I'm certain that I can provide power and CAT6 cabling to it. Its ability to contact my mobile 'phone would be an advantage (with video and voice channels).

Any recommendations anyone, please?

TIA

Have posted your question to a FB friend in Worthing who deals in such matters.

Up early again today. This time it is to go and help operate Newburn at Bakewell. Only a short trip of 50 minutes and I've got a lift today.

Morning from Horsham.

Had to get up early to catch a GWR train to Gatwick as the one that we did consider using has now disappeared form the timetable.

Ticket office at Redhill manned by a fellow rmwebber this morning. He found it amusing that we were going all the way to Bognor for a haircut till I explained that normally the trip is combined to see my other halfs Mum but she is now busy today so we are making the most of being on the Coast so a trip to IOW added on.

Got to Gatwick, cup of tea then down to platform 5 for our train to Bognor but as we got to the platform it was changed to platform 3 just as a terminating Gatwick Express arrived. Only one escalator down and one up (no steps at either footbridge) so took some time to swap platforms but as it was late we had enough time.

Time fo breakfast in Wetherspoons in Bognor before hair cut then off to Ryde. Tried to book through ticket to Smallbrook Junction both online and then at Redhill ticket office but apparently you can no longer book through to stations beyond a Ryde St Johns which explains why the National Rail site wouldn’t let me do so.

Our plan is to come back via Godalming for a few beers in the Star. Coincidentally an ex work colleague has mentioned that if I want freelance part time work then his workplace in Godalming might be interested in seeing me. I told him that it does sound appealing but I am definitely taking the Summer out of work once I finish in three weeks time. Good to know that there are such possibilities out there.

T-15 days of commuting to go. Hooray.

Another letter from our MP re the Thameslink mess but apologies for a standard letter due to the sheer number of compliant he has received in recent days.

Evening all

The problem with House of Fraser is that it's not really a destination shop and never had any excitement about it.

The one in Shrewsbury (which is on the closure list) reminds me of Grace Brothers, but without the quality of staff!

Morning all,

The one is Shrewsbury (which is on the closure list) reminds me of Grace Brothers, but without the quality of staff!

The one in Norwich is quite good - and not down for closure - the staff are pleasant and we've had some good stuff from there.

Woke up at 05:15 after a solid 5.5 hours sleep - which is as good as it gets for me, the Mrs was fast asleep so I got up and went out to photograph the Norwich - Newcastle 68 hauled special, back in bed just after 06:00 and an hours doze before being told it was my turn to make the morning tea. She's off to see some mates in Newport Pagnel today so I'm on my own, might have to force a bacon and egg barm from the local butchers down myself later .. (While the cats away)

Have a good day all

Mooring Awl, inner Temple here,

Only three hours sleep in bed but followed by another 3 on the sofa, it would have been longer but I had a border collie wingeing in my ear. I then came in had breakfast and tried to find a better file manager for this tablet. While doing that Ben the Border Collie decided SWMBO needed to get upas well... So disappeared upstairs, he was successful...

Shortly I'm off out to fill the last raised bed just some emails to sort first..

Good morning all,

Another grey start to the day here but we should see some sunshine. Yesterday we saw a lot and it was quite hot. especially in my shed.

The saga goes on but I've nearly finished. Most stuff is back in and it is ridiculously tidy. Just got to sort out my "tool chest" (actually an old bedroom chest of drawers) and then dispose of the sacks of rubbish that have accumulated. Also now got to get rid of a dead garden parasol which seems to have been attacked by meeces. Luckily it is the old tatty one and not the newish one.

A quick visit to Sainsbury's is needed first as yesterday,  whilst talking to our friends next door over the fence, we've invited them in for a drink (or several) tonight.

There is also the not so small matter of a rugby match in South Africa to watch later this afternoon.

Have a good one,

Bob aka Mousehunter of Sutton.

Morning all. A good fresh summer’s morning Upon the Hill. Emirates has just launched one of their A380s in the general direction of Dubai right over out heads. The altitude and thrust suggested a very full payload.

I cannot locate a means of booking through to Fraggle Rock (South) beyond Ryde either and will make some enquiries. Most TOC websites are clearly in breach of trading standards legislation in that they advertise through booking to ANY station on the national network. I once confounded the guard of my Coastway service by presenting an East Worthing - Smallbrook Junction Advance ticket. He had never seen such a thing.

A good friend suffers from Psoriosis which is very far from “a couple of patches of itchy skin”. Her legs are absolutely covered - more areas affected than not - which is distressing enough from an aesthetic point of view made worse by dresses revealing much of the affected area and tights or leggings being impossibly uncomfortable to wear. She is left with the option of wearing trousers and dealing with the irritation caused where they make contact. In addition to which she has a large collection of medications used on an as-required basis and would be very happy indeed if any of them was truly effective.

The ladies have gone to return their hire car and will then Uber to Barnes for lunch. I am left to my own devices once more.

Happy weekend.

Morning all,

A brief stop as the third muggatea of the day has just been announced from the catering area.  Bright and occasionally sunny out there, a Tesco visit is planned as the double cream has gone off and I need some for my lunch time meal recipe, and it might well be DayJ2 after yesterday's exploits with the strimmer.

Have a good day one and all.

Cheers all. Scorchio is the motto of the day. Feels like déjà-vu!

Bit nauseous at the moment, indubitably due to heat. On night shift today, so still time for siesta. T-storms on the forecast, which I’d certainly welcome.

Best wishes to everyone and thoughts for those of us ill or under the weather. :bye:

All of a sudden, there is a raft of heavy duty medications that apparently had side effects of clearing up skin conditions, which now seems to be their primary marketed purpose. The variety of medications offered for psoriasis is stunning. (I'm thinking of one in particular used for rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis.) I very much doubt these drugs were actually developed to help patients with psoriasis. I suspect that they work in the same way that steroids clear up skin too.

For the last 20 years or so a lot of conditions have been medicalized, primarily by drugs firms that operate in the USA. One example, Viagra, originally for a heart condition was found to help in sexual function for males. Then a weaker version was marketed to femailes suffering from a similar condition - which was not a recognised condition until the manufacturers discovered it!

But it's not all bad news: Metformin, a drug for diabetes, has been found to curb certain cancer cells' intake of glucose which leads to them dying off. A herbal equivalent is Berberine. Another example is a drug for a fungal conditions on nails which has been found to curb bowel cancer cells' growth - itraconazole. The problem here is that because the drugs cost so little to produce, with a lower profit, drugs companies will not test them for cancer trials because they will not make any money from them (patently (pun intended), the hippocratic oath does not apply to drugs companies), even though they may help many cancer sufferers. As they've not been tested, Nice will not allow them to be prescribed by the NHS.

Having said that, I believe that Cancer Research UK is taking up trials for the fungal toenail one, though.

Another bright day here, but a little fresher.

We have a friend travelling up on the 0800 ex-KX which at the moment is running to time. Will meet here at Waverley in a little over an hour.

Hope your Saturday goes well - rugby later GDB!

Good afternoon fellow ER's and generic greetings, congrats and commiserations as appropriate. I hope we get to hear from Debs again soon.

I have not managed to get on ER's much during the last few days. They have not gone particularly well.

Firstly work - the email chasing the sick pay issue produced no response until I sent another one on Friday. The reply stated that the council still needed some more information to confirm my unbroken service and they had asked the agency for it. An instant reply to the council asking what the information was produced nothing. I then contacted the agency rep who claimed not to have heard anything from the council. However, strangely enough, I received a cc'ed copy of an email from the agency to the council half an hour later. This stated that I had worked for the time stated with no breaks. Meanwhile I have received a letter from the council stating my full sick pay entitlement ends on the 25th of this month. This was what I was originally told so I am assuming this could still increase, if required, should the council accept the proof of service evidence.

Secondly health - I have not felt good during the last couple of days. The lack of sleep is probably contributing to the excessive tiredness I am feeling in the mornings and, sometimes, throughout the whole day. On Thursday I felt like my brain was going to explode out of my head, and this feeling remained for a time on Friday. I also found myself falling to sleep on the sofa on both Wednesday and Friday mornings.

I have now taken the decision to change the timing of my tablets to earlier in the day and there has been a slight improvement during the last two days. Hopefully that will continue.

Thirdly the business - The number of hits on the website has reduced a little over the last couple of weeks but there has been an increase in sales. I have already secured an arrangement with Jim Read to sell his unique binary laser prints through the site and today there was further good news. I have been asked to be the outlet for another set of products for someone who is taking semi - retirement. That is a real bonus and makes me feel that things may work out after all. I am also off to view a collection on Monday.

Finally model railways - I had the pleasure of a visit to Andy.P's house last night and a look inside the famous TOPs. He was running the O Gauge sound fitted locos at the time. It really is a wonderful layout. The 00 gauge is a masterpiece and it was wonderful to view it first hand and put the world to rights with Andy. I do hope his health continues to improve.

Today I managed a visit to the Bakewell Model Railway show. Father in Law came along and we spent a good few hours looking around the show and chatting to some familiar faces. There were some very nice layouts on show - including one that kept us entertained for quite a while.

Tonight Sarah and I are planning a nice meal together. Much needed time together.

Best wishes

Andy
