These have been going for absolutely silly money for years now. And to think at one time Model Railways Direct had them a £58 a pop with dozens in stock..........

I think our friend with the Railroad wagon pack is unimpressed

"Congratulations - your application to the blocked bidders list has been successfully approved!  Have a great day!"

The same message I received last week, word for word.   Presumably a stock response to all offers but why would the seller tick the "accept offers" box, and then not use the auto-refusal setting to refuse offers below a certain threshold?

For good measure I have blocked this seller from bidding on any of my items.

Curiously, after I received the message last week I tried to buy Preiser figures from a retail seller and eBay wouldn't let me check out.    I subsequently bought the Presier figures directly from the seller's own website.   Then two days later a message popped up on eBay reminding me about the uncompleted checkout for the Preiser figures and another from eBay inviting me to bid again on the Railroad wagons.

I bet Hereford Model Centre are rubbing their hands, it's odds on they will have a few of these tucked away in a corner unseen and unknown!

One thing to be said in the vendors favour, it's not "L@@K RARE!"

This is a bit more sensibly priced, though without the essential box and instructions, that are evidently worth at least £56.29...

Hadn't noticed that one had been imposed!

£1240 now, plus delivery....

Wish I'd bought one when the local model shop was selling Murdoch and Spencer off for about 70 quid each, and they had several examples of each!  However, I thought they were a tad expensive at that price...

Surely at this point the price has far outstripped the cost of a Railroad 9F + respray and etched plates?

Don't forget you need to stick a face on it.

That's another £1100.

Was Murdoch moulded from mustard coloured plastic?

Like the versions of R455 above...

For that money it would need solid gold coal in the tender and be hand delivered over breakfast with a Hollywood actress of my choice.

It's daft money from daft bidders, its worth defined only by what someone is prepared to pay to possess it over the competition.

It's even more odd when you consider Murdoch was a comparatively late entrant into the series, only made a handful of appearances (and a couple of those were reused footage cameos) and never appeared again as far as I am aware after the models to CGI transition.

Deffo something dodgy going on if you look at the list of bids.

I have to wonder if the bidders are bidding up until the last moment, before withdrawing their bids at the last moment.  Perhaps they want to teach the seller a lesson, or maybe they know the seller and want to mess him/her about, for some previous event?  Time may yet reveal.....
