So will there be 2 ###### or will 60099 be taken out of the colours?

Not certain, but it will be different to 60099. I think 099 didn't go through the full refurb program, but did have a few "reliability" mods carried out.

60066 has the grey lower body stripe and roof of the standard red colour scheme.

Cheers,

Mick

p.s. I knew I'd bought that S/H 60 at the demu show back in July for a good reason.................

Lets hope someone can get some better pictures so we can have a go at doing it, wouldn't mind one myself.

There's been a 150/1 out and about from Southport with the RILA equipment.

Note that the 150 has a "Movember" sticker!

I believe there was an issue with traincrew on a later working that resulted in it being removed. (Probably not for discussion here..........)

Just about to make a restart on 977974/977868/977985/977986 and a couple of others, as well as planning my next projects.

Cheers,

Mick

99666 has replaced brake force runner 977986 and  ended up coupled to SGT 977985.  (977986/99666 are the two ex FO's that have all the passenger windows plated over)

As Rorz intimates, 99666 has been in the works. It turns out that three of the four doors have been sealed up, with the associated windows plated (or painted) over and door handles and handrails removed.

So my 99666 has also received this treatment - pics soon.

This is a vague pic of the prototype 99666.

Also on the workbench are Mk1 BG generators 6262/6263 and a pack of transfers have arrived from John at Precisiion Decals for a couple more (previously mentioned) projects.

Cheers,

Mick

99666 - I had already drilled out for the handrail and door handle, but these were filled in again, along with the door joint. The footboard has also been removed.

Note - this mod has been carried out on three of the four doors. Haven't yet decided on how to blank the window - it is recessed. I'm tempted to use Shawplan laserglaze.

The SGT vehicle 977985 is having roof detail added. I drilled a couple of 0.5mm holes close together and opened them out with a scalpel. A small strip of styrene is then fixed into the hole. It is later cut down and trimmed to size once properly set.

The two generators 6262 & 6263 have been stripped and the inner pairs of doors sealed up.

The large window on the right has been prepared for a blnk, by simply "squaring off" the rounded corners.

The main blanks are now fitted. The large windows towards the ends will be fitted with Evergreen sheet to represent the air intake grilles

post-408-0-99283300-1386449092_thumb.jpg

As the Mk1 is a curved profile, I've glued the blanks in slightly proud, so that they can be filed/smoothed off to match the curve.

Moulded handrails are sliced off but not fully smoothed off - yet.

post-408-0-80058600-1386449116_thumb.jpg

They are used as a marker for drilling holes for the new wire rails to be fitted later.

post-408-0-29860200-1386449133_thumb.jpg

The remains of the moulded handrails will be smoothed down when the window blanks are done.

Cheers,

Mick

Next up for the generators are roof modifications.

The existing moulded ventilators have been removed to be replaced by MJT 2943 scalloped type.

The holes for the handrails have been filled and extra holes drilled for the roof mounted grilles. (The position of the grilles is marked with the squiggly pencil line) The BG's were originally fitted with roof mounted periscopes and Bachmann have blanked these off - the blanks need filing down slightly.

post-408-0-28451700-1386544047_thumb.jpg

Next up, before fitting the new roof vents, will be to reduce the moulded ribs.

SGT2 is also coming along - I've turned to the fitting of the "dustbin" - the laser measuring gear.

post-408-0-74707300-1386544160_thumb.jpg

The corridor connection has been removed and plated over. When the corridor connection is removed from the model, the recess isn't deep enough, so I've cut out the corridor section.

post-408-0-04559900-1386544323_thumb.jpg

A new blank has been cut to be fitted on the inside of the main body moulding.

post-408-0-57463400-1386544423_thumb.jpg

I'm starting to consider how the laser gear will be constructed, along with how I can create the red laser light of the prototype.

Cheers,

Mick

Hi Mick

Looking good mate, could you not use nano red LEDs in the bin? Run the wires into the coach to a circuit board?

Cheers

Bob

That's one possibility - I may also look at a wide angle 3mm or 5mm LED.

Cheers,

Mick

The problem is to try and recreate the full ring of red light, as the prototype actually rotates. Maybe that's the way forward.

I previously did the SGT optical car with it's white light system, but that used 7 Hi white LED's shining through a number of slots - I had far more room to play with.

Work has been progressing on detailing the roofs and ends for a few yellow coaches, but every now and then, along comes a distraction.

I'm siure a few of you may be aware that Colas are getting some 70's

Thanks to Beast and Meld, here's a link to 70805 being en route from the GE plant in Erie, PA.

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10153627101940637&set=pb.222359370636.-2207520000.1386953557.&type=3&theater

Thanks to another rmwebber (you know who you are...) for a few painting hints and tips re: Colas 70's,  I've managed to get one of these brutes into black, orange and yellow a couple of months ago, but was awaiting final details regarding yellow ends and one or two other bits.

Now 70805 is finally out in the open, I can bring my 70801 back up to the top of the pile.

This is where I'd got to:

post-408-0-89467000-1386957029_thumb.jpg

The diagonal line is a right swine to mask across numerous grilles and panels and still needs some touching up. It also transpires that the cab black/yellow and black/orange divider is sloped, when it was originally thought to be horizontal. There was also some uncertainty about how the grilles and handrails were painted where the black crosses them.

Also needed are the two new extra bodyside boxes that were retrofitted to 70801 a couple of weeks ago. Safety yellow ends are also required

Because I'd stripped most of the green paint off my green team 70006, the opportunity was taken to fill in the diagonal creases on the cabside (incidentally, only carried by 70001-70006)

This is a before/after smoothing down the filler shot.

post-408-0-36235800-1386956998_thumb.jpg

Precision Decals already do transfers for 70801, so there's a set waiting to go on, as soon as I alter and tidy up the paintwork.

Cheers,

Mick

p.s. Once again thanks to the guy that's already painted a Colas 70.............................

A few minutes with 40 thou plasticard and some Evergreen 4031 and this is the result. The main square is 7.5mm cut at an angle.

And just placed on the model.

the only problem we have with the extra black under the windows is on the picture of the real thing the ends are covered in snow so i can't make out if the black goes straight under the window or follows the contour of the body, ie the black is deeper below the centre of the windscreen

Is there any modeller out there who didn't have a Colas 70 ready painted? ;-) I've been getting bored waiting for the real thing to appear to see how close I got to it. As it turns out, bang on!

Any pics of it? How about an update on your workbench thread?

i had the advantage of having the official paint spec and drawings and still got small bits wrong such as the black under the side windows as its actually finished different to the spec!

the biggest help was having the dimensions for the logos, writing, numbers etc so they are spot on size wise on mine (they are a different size to a 56, 66 etc)
