Who put the rust in Ruston?

If the vegetarian thing doesn't work out, you just have to diversify:

Or do as Hugh-Faintly-Whiffing-a-Bit did, and just throw the vegetarian (out of the restaurant? as far as you can?)

While we're on dodgy spelling of foreign words, they knew there was meant to be an accent in here somewhere:

At least they tried. There was another cafe round here which had two signs spelt differently, Rendezvous and Rendevouz - likewise, they knew there was a Z in there.

It is believed that this was a genuine response to a competition to outline the benefits of Carnation milk.  Needless to say it wasn't used, but the admen liked it and made a 'mock-up', which in the way of such things leaked out....

Now I travel a lot and have visited many countries many times, ~45-ish, but I always see something that makes me smile.

Today it was SPAM! Shelf fulls of the stuff!!

SPAM gift set anybody!

post-12815-0-90314500-1378014291_thumb.jpg

(They ain't cheap either!)

What you may not realise, though, is that SPAM is in the Korean national psyche because during the (Korean) war food was scarce but a good source was near the American Amy Bases. Yep, you got it – tins of SPAM!

This was then combined with what little they did have, (noodles, cabbage and of course chillies), which is then boil-fried BBQ style, to make a dish called "Budae Jjigae".

"Budae Jjigae" roughly translates as "Army Base Stew".

It is a very good dish and I do recommend it but don't expect to find it in a restaurant near you though.

(Although you can always ask for Korean dishes that are not on the menu as if the restaurant is run by Koreans, (and not Chinese), then that is one dish that they will cook for themselves all the time! I do, and have been occasionally rewarded.)

Anyway, back to the SPAM displays.

They must have worked as I ended up buying a tin of the stuff!

Elder son was part of the support crew for the steam railmotor in South Wales over the weekend. This was Sunday morning's breakfast.

He proclaims the bacon as the best he's ever had. Also says the railmotor was so popular, he's never been photographed so many times in his life. Great stuff and a huge well done to the team responsible for the restoration.

Seems like Biggles has got lost....

(it is quite faint, but it is a big u-turn vapour trail!)

I assume it's military, rather than a Queasy Air passenger forgetting their toothbrush.  Taken 10 mins ago out the back window

Which warrents the question: Should we start a thread on how to cook with a locomotive?
