Hi guys,

Thanks to Dave's (Beast666) timely intervention I did a bit more on the signalbox yesterday but did not get chance to take any pictures. I am out at Christening today and don't know what time I'll get back but will post some pic's later.

Hi Guys,

Well its been a long time since I went to a Christening, I had no idea what I was letting myself in for nor the time it would take, I mean a quck splash of water, read a few lines and back to the telly - not anymore it seems, benn back an hour or so and I'm kna*kered to say the least.

Anyway promises are promises so here is a gallery of what's been done this week...

Firstly the signalbox...

I see Mike's asking questions about his wallet in the Lounge, I have one for in here.

Where's Mike? :nono:

:sungum:

Hi Andy,

To be honest mate I'm just knackered when I get in from work as we are absolutely manic. I will be in the den tomorrow night as John usually comes round for a couple of hours on a Wednesday, however he's not very well with a chest infection so we will have wait and see. Thanks for asking mate.

I have to sympathise with you. I'm also getting in totally shattered. Work, home, food, emails, forum, shower and then bed. Hopefully your work (and mine) will settle down so that more modelling can get done

Hi Mike and also Duncan, can I suggest RETIREMENT, whoooops sorry guys, I'm 65 in a few weeks and really GLAD I was made redundant at 60 and could afford to take an early retirement.

I'm still knackered from last years mis hap but I'm happy with an hour or two each day.

All the best Mike and I hope you catch up with Work soon and can get back to normal, but at least you have the work and don't have to sit at home worrying about how your going to pay the bills.

Hi all,

Bit of a long interlude since my last post but last night proved to be inspirational and a few moves took place....

BR Clan pacific No. 72009 Clan Stewart has paused at Dent with a stopping passenger from Hellifield to Carlisle as a fitted freight passes on the Up line behind.

The fitted freight is hauled by Brush Type 4 No. D1662 Isambard Kingdom Brunel as it coasts effortlessly through Dentdale with its express fitted freight bound for Leeds Stourton yard

Ex: LNWR Super D' 0-8-0 No. 49395 hauls a train of 21T hoppers north. Unusual motive power for the S&C but there were numerous occasions when the Super D's travelled the line.

Black 5 No. 45253 trundles southbound with a mixed freight, a far more common sight on the S&C.

Another unusual visitor to the S&C is ex: Works K1 2-6-0 No. 62027 on a return working to Darlington diverted from the Stainmore line with another fitted freight.

Morning Mike,

Good to have another dose of inspiration - I suppose I've always had a soft spot for the Clans, which probably comes from the iMessage they ran on the 'Thames Clyde' through Hurlford and Kilmarnock! We had a few visit the shed as well during dad's time there.

Because it was relatively quiet on RMweb this morning, and prompted by a comment from AndyP somewhere, I've just trawled through your 'Bermuda Road' thread and must say I was very impressed - does it still exist? Must say that I thought the 2P in one of the shots might have been one of our Hurlford ones, but it was of course at Ayr(finally ending its days at Aberdeen) - I suppose there was a bit of stock mixing in the fifties though! The breakdown crane particularly intrigued me, I'm not certain if the Hurlford one was similar, but I'm sure the one at Ayr was. What model was it and is it still available - it did look very impressive in Bermuda Road MPD? Do you intend to use it on the S&C?

Sorry to fire so many questions at you, but it was a joy to read this morning,

Kind regards,

Jock.

Part two was a long time coming as my mate Allan called a little earlier than expected for our trip out to the Macclesfield exhibition this morning. not a bad provincial show with a decent trade support, worth a visit!

To continue...

Busy day on the 'Up' line produces yet another fitted freight in the procession, happy day's for the spotters eh! Class 8F No. 48739 is the cop of the day for someone hopefully!

The ganger is nonplussed over the approach of 9F No. 92044 as it slogs along gaining some boiler pressure after the long uphill struggle to Blea Moor from Settle Junction.

Hi Jock,

Loved the Clan's but sadly only saw the last 5 due to the early demise of the first 5 because blooody Polmadie drivers did not like them!

To answer your questions:

Bermuda Road does still exist but nowhere to set it up at present so its stacked in its travel case awaiting some miracle or other. Sad really.

The breakdown crane is an old Hornby one easily picked up on the second-hand market, the staff coach was an old Hornby Clerestory Brake repainted and correct transfers from Modelmaster applied. I have a red and a black crane and the black one has appeared on Dent a few weeks ago. Bachman are introducing a new 75T crane sometime soooooooooooon apparently!

Lovely job Mike, that Super D looks the Biiiiiiizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz wish I'd kept mine now, ahahahhaha.

Some more wonderful pics thanks, and good to see you back posting Mate.

Cheers Andy,

I have 2! Seriously I have that one from Bachmann and one old GEM kit I made 25-30 years ago, I ran it for the first time in many years when Jason visited and it still ran brilliantly, I was really chuffed! hahaha

I keep wanting to post but really got nothing more constructive to say than - FANTASTIC!

I always enjoy my trips to Dent, each scenic development adds incrementally to creating the atmosphere / mood and that 9F on the oil train... well, you can almost hear the loco / crew catching their breath after tackling the Long Drag.

Have you got or ever read Colin Walker's book on the S&C in his 'trails of steam' series? There is some lovely, descriptive writing in there and he talks of the experience of sitting on the fellsides above Dent listening to as much as watching the freight trains go by. If the weather conditions were right (not often!), he claims to have heard a train for up to 20 minutes as it first became audible on the latter stages of the climb up through Ribblehead, then muffled silence as it negotiated the tunnel before accelerating past him and then catching the last clatterings fading away somewhere in the Ais Gill area. Wonderful stuff and very much your era, I would imagine. :sungum:
