Well worth the wait Mike, I've seen St Marnock several times and its a great Layout with loads of atmosphere both in sound and smoke.

Dent looks stunning as usual and the 9F looks magnificent mate.

Really nice.

Thanks.

Morning Mike,

As you will know, the shed and coaling stage at 'St Marnock are based on the G&SWR 'Galloway' design like those at Hurlford, Dumfries and Ayr. I must confess that I've copied some of the images from the club web-site (for my own use only!) as they have some useful detail for me like the coaling stage, turntable, pits and water columns despite being a different gauge!

Lovely images as always. Is the dog bite healing cleanly now?

Kind regards,

Jock.

Hi Mark,

Not sure about Heywood yet but if I go I try to do it on a Saturday so I have all my 'new' bits to play with on the Sunday - like today Hahahaha. I'll let you know mate.

Hi Andy,

Yep, love St. Marnock and its diesel equivalent 'Ladeside'. I think both layouts are just right and not over imposing which I feel can happen with 'O' gauge sometimes.

There were loads of features on different layouts that I pointed out to my mate Peter who with my other mate Andy we went together. The features I always wanted on all my layouts were and MPD or at least an engine shed which all have had to date, another is the housed in hoist apparatus found on large goods sheds which I've never quite got round to yet and with Dent no chance of doing so ever again! Mind you Bermuda Road is not quite consigned to the bin yet!

The 9F did look the part and managed the load single-handed up the spiral. I picked up 6 heavily weathered TTA tanks from Flangeway yesterday so they will feature soon, problem is all my others now need a bit more attention - wherever they are?

Hi Jock,

Oh yes the old G&SWR coal hole, what a rickety looking thing they were at the end of steam days, I saw more of the Caledonian style at St.Rollox MPD which was well past its sell by as I watched the A4's being serviced. The detail is well worth copying on St.Marnock as its excellent.

Thanks mate, the dog bite is still a bit 'angry' looking with a large black scar surrounded by a bright red halo! I'll live. Apparently the police have charged the owner and its in the hands of the Justice system now for a decision.

Hi all,

Quick update showing a few odd bits and pieces...

post-5296-0-46596700-1425238561_thumb.jpg

Here is the rake of TTA's I picked up at the Preston show yesterday, I have also set-in the signalbox into the baseboard, no more 10 deg. angle!

post-5296-0-53388600-1425238569_thumb.jpg

Pretty grubby to say the least and this view also shows the start of fitting the point rodding and signalbox in place and ready for a bit of weathering AND some roof slates!

post-5296-0-13841900-1425238577_thumb.jpg

You can just about make out the 'Stop-look-listen' signs

post-5296-0-65079900-1425238585_thumb.jpg

Difficult angle to capture but you can just see the running-in board on the Down platform

post-5296-0-71216800-1425238591_thumb.jpg

Another almost impossible angle!

post-5296-0-35236800-1425238599_thumb.jpg

This view shows the 'Up' platform waiting room as it stands today after completing the stone cladding and applying the base coat of Humbrol No.84

So its been a bit fiddly work for this weekend but it all has to be done at some time.

Morning Mike,

Love the Std5 and new rake, couldn't help noticing that the train on the other line looks as if it's about to lose some of the steel load!

Another superb set of images - it must become more and more difficult to get anything done when the temptation to simply 'play trains' with the wonderful stock you possess is so strong!

The little touches that you are now addressing are what makes yours such a realistic layout. Have to say that I'm happy that a Loco shed yard such as Hurlford had mainly 'manual' point levers and so there is less need for the fiddly job that is fitting point rodding! Look forward to your efforts however!

Kind regards,

Jock.

Hi Jock,

Thanks mate, I knocked the steel train and failed to notice the 'insecure load', I really need to glue the 3 sections together! As for manual point levers, yes they are so much easier to portray but even easier to break off which happened regularly on Bermuda Road. You just can't win!

Hi guys,

Apologies for no pic's of  last night's action, primarily because there was very little action just a load of yapping, good fun though!

Anyway here is a little interlude from my stock of scanned unidentified negatives. When I say unidentified I mean the pack they should be in which would be clearly marked with some basic info such as date and place has gone missing and these negatives have no proper info to go on. Anyway hope you enjoy....

Hi Mike,

More smashing real photos there, thanks.

Love the one at the top with the extra classy maroon diesel there, if only I could work out which one it was! (ha, ha!)

I'd also love to know where the bottom pic is, it's a lovely looking location.

Cheers,

John.

The one labelled as 'Near Reading' very definitely isn't -  but there's not much there to give a clue of where it is.

The tunnel entrance you can't remember the name of is the south end of Dinmore Tunnel on the North & West Line

Hi Mike,

Thanks for that, I had 'Dainton' tunnel interrupting my thought pattern but I knew Dainton was a double track bore, at least I got the 'D' part right in my head! Lovely looking spot just crying out to be modelled, why don't I rip up Dent and do Dainton?

Problem is a lot of those early ones I got taken to, had I driven there or got the train I may have remembered them easier, my excuse and I'm sticking to it! Hahaha :jester:

That Reading one could have been near Shrewsbury as there are some around of that area in the pile.

Hi Mike

Two very interesting photos in the black and whites, first is the Shell-BP tank wagon. I think it is a early 40 ton GLW wagon. It is vacuum braked not air braked. The Second is the early tamper machines, the things you "Absolutely no idea what it is, why I took it but I bet Jason may just model it!". Jason might not model it but I have been collecting photos of these for ages so I can make one and your photo appears to give me more information, thanks.

Glad to be of assistance Clive. Here was me thinking it was just a normal TTA.

I did take some unusual things back in the day obviously for modelling info but I doubt I have ever looked at them properly since taking them! I have not titled many of my thousands of old images but if I come across any more 'absolutely' type shots I'll post them for you.
