blueeighties
Back to the big 37, and it's head scratching time. 009 by rothburyuk, on Flickr Smoke generator out. 004 by rothburyuk, on Flickr A slightly tidier reinstall  No lighting yet though. 001 by rothburyuk, on Flickr There is quite a lot of space in the tanks, so I thought I would get a pair of large circular speakers in. I did....but I still think the sound can be improved upon. I have a couple of Alan Butchers to play with, so I'll try those too. Regardless, this thing is LOUD with a pair of speakers in :-surrender Just want to make sure it has the best sound possible. 011 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 012 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 014 by rothburyuk, on Flickr It's all very enjoyable and good fun I have to say....
blueeighties
Sound. Quality is all important. Shame I couldn't fit a pair of these into the locos  011 by rothburyuk, on Flickr But I digress. Back to reality, and more experimentation with the big 37. A while ago, I picked a couple of Alan Butcher speakers up, as I had heard they were of good quality. The only issue was that they were a bit on the large side to fit into anything, until now :-FT First job was to measure the space within the underslung tanks, and make a speaker housing to suit. Simple job with some 1mm plasticard. 007 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 009 by rothburyuk, on Flickr Everything wired up for testing, but not sealed. So far, sounding better than the circular pair yesterday. 010 by rothburyuk, on Flickr The test went okay, so next I sealed all of the holes, and ran glue around all of the joints. Wow, is all I can say. This is the best sounding loco I have ever experienced. Don't know if you can pick it up from the video. In other news, I have painted and ballasted the display plinth for the class 25. Next I'll weather the track and add a bit of grass. 002 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 003 by rothburyuk, on Flickr Fitted laserglaze, passengers and lighting to this. 005 by rothburyuk, on Flickr

RMweb Premium newbryford Posted June 5, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 5, 2014 Liking the 70 - need to crack on with my second. I know you're a fan of Fairy powerspray and I've bought a bottle last week. I have a few Q's if you don't mind. What's the best way of using it? Spray and leave in a sealed bag? For how long? I have a Bachmann 66 and 70 and Hornby 60 to strip - is it OK on those? Cheers, Mick

Cheers, Mick Morning Mick. I just spray it all over, and leave it for a few hours. Thats enough to remove the decals, and enough paint for a rub down and prime. A repaeated application will take it down to plastic. I have found the 70 to be especially stubborn though, even my secret weapon of Phoenix Superstrip struggled! I have never tried 'bagging it', should do though as it will no doubt speed things up. And stop me from gassing myself

blueeighties
Took some doing, but finally got the damaged roof panel of the 0 gauge 37 down to bare plastic. tractor_37260
Unless you're doing any mods to the tractor my guess would be 116......... 37 116 featured a smooth plated boiler roof panel - unlike earlier 37/0's which had riveted strips - so that's one mod perhaps worth considering, another being the filling in of the boiler filler door recess and some of the footholds, including the tumblehome one below. Then there's also the matter of the "trench" under the cantrail grille's - the tooling having being altered to suit 37 003 - (37LG) L/E , but now sadly incorrect for the majority of other 37/0s. At the end of the day, it depends how accurate you want to make it - and in Lee's case what his customer has requested. Either way, I'm sure it will turn out to be another one of his excellent reworks.
RMweb Premium richierich Posted June 7, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 7, 2014 Just a quick question from your experience, how do you remove the detail parts off Hornby Class 56 super detail bodies?
blueeighties
Just a quick question from your experience, how do you remove the detail parts off Hornby Class 56 super detail bodies? Hi Rich. I use small pliers, and small screwdrivers. Most of the parts can be gently pulled off, the handrails levered out with the screwdriver. Being moulded plastic the handrails quite often snap and distort, easy job to replace with new ones manufactured from .33 handrail wire.
