I do like the duller tones of autumn and winter , most of the pictures I've seen of my area are when it's raining or autumn the duller tones lend them selfs to be scailed down better , I also picked up some newton and hammer (I think) clear glazing liquid to see what it's like , I got itto try and make puddles and water sat on various things .

Yep I agree, nearly all the colour photos I have of Bakewell are autumn time, and usually raining :)

That sounds interesting, I've seen a number of threads on here where people have made puddles using PVA or varnish, so it'll be interesting to see how the glazing stuff turns out.

I agree with both of you, in the mags over here I've seen a couple of autumn layouts with radioactive looking leaves in reds, oranges and yellows that look a bit toy like as the colours haven't been scaled down.

You have inspired to me today to have a bash at making a tree from cable! My efforts are on my First Avenue layout, but the result so far is this:

Not up to your (or your daughter's) standards yet but many thanks for the tips which have enabled me to give it a go.

Hi Al

Great to see you are considering Autumn as your time of year, like you I think it is more colourful than just the green of grass and trees.

I too tone down any of the commercial colours I buy as they are awfully bright, that's the beauty of making you own and as each batch is slightly different they are perfect for mixing.

It's good to see so many people having a go at trees too, I'm now on number 2 and the difference and individuality of each tree is really good to see.

Looking forward to seeing more so we can compare our efforts.

All the best

Mornig......Alastair

Well, I searched over 5,000 images, for your posters' yesterday, with quite specific searches.............

Came up with Zilch...... :O  :O ........

The poster does shew, cross channel routes and a ship deck plan.

I feel it was displayed for a Ferry Company, rather than British Rail.

My reason for thinking this is...................Cars were the thing of the day, not rail travel, certainly not day trip's to France from Derbyshire.

If we could get the wording, be on to a winner...?

Sorry, not good news...........

Most of the Big 4 posters',I feel, were designed with their "running regions" only, so, as to not giving away passengers' to the other 3, companies...........

Would like to hear, other members' thoughts,of why this kind of poster was displayed at a railway station, must have paid a high premium............

Morning David,

Thank you very much for spending the time searching.

They really are a mystery, they appear to meet the BR standard branding in terms of colours (the red and blue for information signs) but I cannot find any other poster that comes even close to their layout, and as you say the subject matter is a little strange for a small Derbyshire station.

I think I'm going to give up, and use some other posters on that particular notice board.

Thanks again for trying.

Al.

HI Al, couldn't find anything even remotely like that either, tried Ebay, Amazon, Allposters, NRM (with its nasty interface, eww), etc. I then thought that if you have the shapes, and the colours, the map, and can produce the shape of the ship in the second one, then maybe you could recreate it. The "only" thing you don't know is the actual text, and while that's a big only, the posters are very small so maybe you can get away with pretend text as a placeholder.

Depending how keen you are, there must be someone out there that collects these things or has a keen interest. Have you asked in the prototype section?

Hi Jason,

Stick a bit of lorem ipsum on there, is that what you're saying? :)

Interesting idea, but I don't think I will - I would always know it was wrong. That's daft, I know, but I'd rather go for a proper authentic poster, I think.

I've got a number of others that do appear in photos of the station, so I'll pick a couple of those.

Cheers, mate.

Al.

I've had very little modelling time, this weekend.

Last week, I made another clump of shrubbery to add to the ever growing forest.

I've also started to gather some finishing details for the station.

Here's a Peco bench seat:

And here's some more, which I've painted brown for the wood.

I'll paint the frame crimson and then weather the wood down.

And finally, I've been making up the various station signs:

and the big name board for the station.

Thanks for looking,

Well, I've just spent half an hour doing an erudite post, only to lose it when my browser crashed  :banghead:

So I'm typing this faster :D

I've only had chance to do a few bits and pieces over this week, squeezed between work.

Having given up on finding the correct prototype poster, as shown earlier in the thread, I've cracked on with the other posters and signs for the station.

I took a strip cut off a sheet of 10thou plasticard, and stuck 10thou x 60thou microstrip along the edges, then I cut it into suitably sized sections for the sign boards.

Here they are painted up:

and here they are with the posters added:

I'm afraid it's really to small to see the details.

We'll return to the posters in a minute.

The other thing I've done is take a couple of these:

post-17302-0-97553900-1396113817_thumb.jpg

The Peco bench seat, and butcher them to create a longer version:

So I took two, and cut the ends off:

I trimmed one of the end sections to create a middle support:

post-17302-0-40956200-1396113823_thumb.jpg

Then I shortened the two remaining sections, and arranged them as they will be:

post-17302-0-81499000-1396113825_thumb.jpg

And then stuck them together:

Then I did the same with another pair:

Here they are painted

With all that done, I then added all the bits to the station building.

Here's a few shots of the end result:

Thanks for looking
