7mm scale

’Bridport’ by David Taylor (DLT) – this is David’s superb 7mm narrow gauge ‘might-have-been’ – more details can be found here - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/1956-pictures-of-bridport-town/ and here - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/gallery/image/30662-bridport-arrival/

On30 ¼ inch scale

Coombe Rock’ by Brian Mosby (Mozzer) – USA narrow gauge, set in Arizona in the early 1900s, with a feel of the old west, think of all those old cowboy films. More information here - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/33732-coombe-rock-minerals-0n30/?hl=%2Bcoombe+%2Brock  and here - www.flickr.com/photos/mozzer36/sets/72157626944172803

‘S’ scale

‘St Juliot’ by Maurice Hopper – this is Maurice’s new pre-Grouping masterpiece, set in Cornwall. I am told that there is a very high likelihood that Maurice will be bringing the layout to Taunton on the train…. More information can be found here - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/59642-st-juliot-a-new-s-scale-exhibition-micro-layout/ and here - http://www.s-scale.org.uk/gallery23.htm

4mm scale

'Paynestown' by Al Reynolds (Barry Ten) – this hugely atmospheric branch terminus set in the Welsh Valleys needs little introduction to fans of Al’s work. More information and photos can be found here - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/61801-paynestown/ and also in this example of Al’s RMWeb blog - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/blog/257/entry-6728-paynestown-pics/

New (S&D/W.R.) layout by Colin Whitlock (Colin) – this is Colin’s new 4mm project, with interchangeable buildings. So far he’s built the S&D and W.R. versions of the structures, although we don’t yet know which version will appear at Taunton – perhaps we can start a petition?! More information on this rather nice layout can be found here - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/56505-a-change-is-as-good-as-a-rest/

'Tawbridge' by the lads from the Barnstaple MRC – this is their fine new S.R.-based layout, operated by DCC and with lovely scenic work. It’s development is charted here - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/24508-tawbridge-a-new-00-dcc-layout/

'Netherhope Halt'  by John Farmer (Re6/6) – John’s lovely diorama makes a welcome return this year, to support his tree-making demo. More photos can be found on John’s blog, here is an example to be going on with - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/57865-a-couple-more-trees-for-netherhope-balcombe/

Cashmores by Marc Smith - Marc is back again with his latest EM gauge layout, featuring a scrap yard in South Wales! - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/58024-cashmores-the-next-layout/

And once again, back by ‘popular demand’, we are giving the small hall over to the SWAG Modular Layout, organised again by the Modulemeister Stu ‘Stubby’ Hilton. The story can be found here - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/55976-the-2013-swag-module-project/

Displays and demonstrations

Tree making by John Farmer (Re6/6) – using his lovely ‘Netherhope’ diorama as an example, John will be demonstrating the art of tree making, following on from his excellent article in the January 2013 edition of BRM. Examples can be seen on the Netherhope link posted above.

3-D printing by Martin McDermott (Puglsey) – Martin has been looking into the technology of 3-D printing for some time now, and is hoping to have a printer available to demonstrate with by the time of the Members Day. Even if this isn’t possible, he will have a variety of 3-D items to show, plus no doubt other goodies

2mm finescale demo by Jerry Clifford (queensquare) - Jerry will be bringing a selection of photos, plans, model buildings and rolling stock from his fantastic 'Bath Queen Square' project in 2mm finescale

Kernow Model Railway Centre - Chris Trerise of KMRC will again be attending with a display of current and future special/limited edition models, such as the forthcoming ‘Hampshire’ unit

One board of Black Country Blues - the new RMWeb layout should hopefully be making an appearance

British Railway Modelling – our friends at BRM will be attending the event with a stand and all the latest news.

Retail therapy

Dave Harding of The Model Shop, Exeter, is back on form and will be back with us again this year, with his usual range of R-T-R items and other bits and pieces. Why not try giving him a call in advance of the event, he’s happy to bring items up for ‘special orders’ –check out his website here - http://www.trainsandtrack.co.uk/

Something new for 2013 – I’ve extremely please to announce that Simon Castens of The Titfield Thunderbolt bookshop will be attending with a selection of the latest railway titles. His website can be found here - http://www.titfield.co.uk/ - this must be one of the best stocked railway bookshops anywhere!

Catering

The Delightful Ladies of the catering team will again be working hard in the kitchens to keep us all fed and watered. We are anticipating the usual selection of delicious pasties, home made cakes and other refreshments.

Any profits arising from the catering operation and any other aspect of the Members Day will be donated to The Railway Children charity again.

The 'Saturday Event'

As discussed last year and during the last 12 months, the weekend’s festivities will start a little earlier this time. Details are currently being finalised, but we aim to congregate in Bishops Lydeard around lunch time.

The day is planned to include a mix of steam trains, model railways (in the form of Bath Green Park - by kind permission once more of the Taunton MRG), good food and no doubt, beer!

The latter part of the day is more or less sorted, however, as we would return to Bishops Lydeard by train, arriving circa 1720 hrs, and then spend 1½ hours or so with the Taunton MRG and ‘Bath Green Park’, followed by the usual evening meal in The Cross Keys at Norton Fitzwarren.

More details as soon as they are available… ;)

What would certainly help is if anyone who want's to come to the meal in The Cross Keys on the Saturday evening (will start circa 7pm - 7.30pm) - please can you send me a PM. Thanks.

Edit 1 - to add in information re profits going to The Railway Children charity and also to ask for anyone coming to the pub evening meal to PM me separately.

Edit 2 - to add in details of Jerry Clifford's 2mm finescale demo (items from his Bath Queen Square project)

Edit 3 - to add in details of the Black Country Blues board/demo

Edit 4 - to add in details of Cashmores

Captain Kernow,

As a new member of RMWeb, how does one puts ones name down for this event?

Hi Paul, you just simply turn up on the day and enjoy the event - we normally have sticky labels for name badges on a table near the entrance. There's no entrance fee...

Pastie, no salad and a slice of lemon meringue please.

There; that's the important bit out of the way. Looking forward to the annual pilgrimage with the added bonus of a trip on the WSR. :) Once again CK does us proud with a rather nice selection of layouts (and exhibitors!).

Guest Natalie Graham

Except for me going round with a brown envelope with SWAG on it!

Isn't a sack more usual? Will you have a striped jersey and a mask too?

For those proposing to come from a long way east, Transport Direct says I can arrive at somewhere called Bishop's Lydeard, Hither Mead, WBound at 1132 on the Saturday - is that any good? And is there a recommended place to stay in the area on Saturday night, preferably with easy access to real ale (should it be needed!)?

Thanks

Andy

Andy, Hither Mead is one of the local residential roads in Bishops Lydeard, this looks like a bus journey you will be making? It's worth checking if the bus concerned runs via the WSR station at Bishops Lydeard, as this is likely to be the starting point for our days activities (to be confirmed).

As for places to stay, this place is very close to the Saturday evening pub and the venue for the Sunday - http://www.staplegrovelodge.co.uk/ (recommended by me, although I am staying elsewhere this year).

Otherwise, there is a Travellodge on the other side of town, but there's quite possibly someone in the group with a car, so a lift might be arranged, or there are, of course, other guest houses.

Thanks, I will investigate the bus route more closely and see if the Staplegrove Lodge has a room

It is with great regret that I have to decline the invitation.  Last year's weather put me off somewhat ;)  Playing dodge-the-tree on the way up and teaching the car to swim on the way back ..... well ......

Actually I'll be 12500 miles distant beavering away on the new layout.  Unless the lottery feels like being generous in the next few weeks!
