Is the black actually black this time? Sorry, I had to have a little dig.

We will only know if these models are OK when we have them in our own hands.

Kernow seem to be showing much of the new range 'in stock' today.

Indeed but it would be pushing it to have a livery from 1928-34 still in 1947 ! 😉

Interesting point on the brass hinges. It's actually good practice not to paint pinned door hinges, partly because it soon chips away in use, but also because repeated applications causes them to gum up, eventually spraining the hinge and preventing the door from closing properly.

Often when a house door fails to close properly, it's not the wood which has swollen, but the hinge that is sprained, moving the door across in the frame.

Whether or not this was something that concerned the makers of railway carriages, I couldn't say!

I am trying to confirm the 1947 livery of curved frame Bulldog 3335, apparently there is a photo in the Maidment book on small wheel GWR 4-4-0s which alas is not in my library.  Hoping someone on here may have a copy and be able to have a quick look to see if they think it is painted in green or black before I get the paints out on this IMG_9421.jpeg.c87c3fe2b41afb72a77d0e2b7e6467e9.jpeg

Mmmm tasty. I've had a recent hankering for a straight frame Bulldog after re-reading my Barnstaple branch books looking at the Moguls. The Bulldogs were also were also a mainstay of that line. I look forward to seeing that completed.

If the flurry of interest after Rich's @The Fatadder recent posts is anything to go by it could be a case of. "Form an orderly queue", if we could only find out how to contact the splendid fellow who's produced them. (I've been a "sleeper" on Facebook for years, but remain unsure how to navigate it.)

I found his eBay shop, where he sells imperfect prints. So maybe drop him a message via eBay to enquire about buying the actual prints?

It strikes me as bizarre that someone sells off their "failures" and yet it seems you can't find the undoubted successes being offered somewhere at higher prices to great fanfare. Must be some new business model I've not heard of! 👾

Interesting, plus he seems to share the same interests in cars as me given his eBay moniker.

How hard is it to get hold of a Bachmann Earl chassis?

Plus as @BWsTrains asks, where to get a print that did pass inspection?

I am probably going to regret saying this given the amount of interest in the bodies

However its possible to buy all of the bits to build a dukedog chassis for about £50 from Bachmann Spares (on top of which you will need fixings and wheels for the 3d printed bogie, buffers and handrail parts along with your choice of tender.

He is in the GWR modellers group on Facebook.

It looks as if he is printing the locos to order. Since starting them, he is now looking at producing an Aberdare.

Robin has kindly suggested I put the following on here, seeing that it's a GWR-themed thread...........

These locos were built by Peter Lawson who, sadly, because of age/infirmity is no longer able to model. They're therefore offered for sale, with 10% of proceeds going to Cancer Research UK. Prices are negotiable..........

All run really well.

And before any of you of the nagging persuasion start up with the likes of 'haven't you got enough panniers already?', please be aware that the answer to that question is, 'No!'...

Good evening Captain,

I'm glad they arrived safely (as did your cheque; many thanks).

They certainly look rather jolly on your railway.

Regards,

Tony.

I've just been pointed towards some of the threads here about my Bulldog bodyshells.
They started very much as a personal project, largely as I was teaching myself CAD and experimenting with 3D printing and needed a sufficiently complex subject to keep my interest and to keep testing my learning. Things took off from there...

As a modeller with a reasonable skillset, but absolutely no affinity for working in brass or white metal, I liked the idea of de-skilling subjects I really wanted, but was unlikely to build to a decent standard with the kits available. Bachmann's Earl as a donor made this possible, though I couldn't leave the rather crude bogie untouched and had to redesign that as well...

I've designed everything around late examples, basically looking at the latest examples in service and the features they had at end of life. So for anyone intersted in 3313, 3335, 3341, 3377, 3453 towards the end, they're well covered. 3454 was an early subject I tackled, but I improved a lot of the features in the print and haven't since committed to any more of that subject.

I've also produced a series of Dukes, again aiming to replicate the last survivors. I have some wide cab shells left (specifically modelled after 9076) but will make some changes before I run any more. I also have a few of these with the full underboiler, to suit a scratch-built chassis.

At the moment, I'm trying to find time (and motivation) to put a simple ecommerce website together as these seem to have caught people's imagination, but in the meantime I've been selling a few from direct enquiries through Facebook. I've been wary of wading into web forums with a "buy from me" angle where I don't regularly contribute, but I equally don't want to hide these away from people where there's a genuine interest.

I have prototyped an Aberdare, the shell is basically ready to go, but with no RTR chassis, I've also taken to designing a chassis and mechanism to go beneath. Resin3D printing a prototype chassis is all well and good, but it's not the best technology to make a robust mechanism so the development of that aspect will take more time. The prototype chassis' are built with Hornby 08 wheelsets, the next generation has compensations designed-in and it will ultimately be able to use Alan Gibson wheels

Hopefully this is of interest.

Fascinating story William, welcome to RMWeb.

I like the look of the curved framed Bulldog, they have an old world charm about them.

Good luck with your printing and setting up an e-commerce site. Keep us informed.

Regards, Neal.

Shouldn't the bolections be the same colour as the droplights?

Yes.

Thanks Miss P.  Knew there was something amiss as soon as I saw them but just needed confirmation in case there was something I didn't know peculiar to these Mainline & City coaches.

Are the pics we've seen of pre-production samples or of what's actually been delivered to stockists?  If the latter it's a serious omission and I'd want to know it was corrected before I ordered any of the forthcoming corridor toplights. Painting bolections can be tricky at the best of times but twice as difficult when the glazing is already in.
