I think these urban trails are a good idea, I did the one in New York, a couple of miles long..

Thousands of people a day use this line as a footpath.

I would like to think the unused “10th” track crossing the thames from Victoria would make a good, albeit short footpath to Battersea Power Statiom from Grosvenor carriage sidings.

Not very long though, mind you it would cost a lot to make all the decking safe along that side.

Perhaps when Pomona island gets covered in buildings it might make sense to build an actual high level walking/cycling route from there into central Manchester using it.  Certainly they need to find a solid use for that side of the viaduct before Metrolink make a claim to increase capacity as that part is a bit of a bottleneck.

The Hudson High Line. Fantastic bit of urban reimagination and yet retaining a fair bit of original features. I loved it. Walked it from Hudson Yards in 30° heat. Photo taken as the line does a 180° spin towards the meat packing district.

Regards

I'd reccomend the book "Walking the High Line" by Joel Sternfeld, a photographer who doccumented the high line in its derelict state, just prior to the conversion to a park. Lovely book, and some great pics with the abandoned line threading between the high-rise buildings.

ready to head south, unfortunately followed a stone blower all the way so had to hold back at 60mph 90% of the trip!

tonight might not run as the required testing might have been completed today, here’s hoping!

I do like the last image with the ghost signal in the image.

I think it’s actually a ghost headlight captured on one of the phone multiple lenses that built up the photo

You can see it in the crewe picture too, the green reflecting on the nose in that picture is on an adjacent line

Worth a look, definitely. In fact the whole Castlefield area's pretty interesting. The nearby science and industry museum is a bit limited at the moment though, having a refit.

a rather sad looking 08899 in a very faded midland railway maroon, I drove this on etches park when I was with colas as we weren’t allowed to start locos in the wheel lathe due to smoke and this happened to be nearby and they let me use it!

sad to see it like that but at least it’s still in service

Always thought it a shame no one has done this in RTR (yet). It would look great weathered or ex works!IMG_1909.jpeg.c0771e39bb95ca9ccd98141e7fd4889d.jpeg
