Class 66 photos

Here's a few shots I took around Cornwall in 2010.  First up is a couple of shots I took of 66603 on the 13/09/10 arriving at Moorswater with the Westbury cement train. These are some of my favourite shots of Class 66's.

I should have a look on the storage disk at the series of photos I took on that day. It was quite a sight to see a Class 66 hidden in amongst the trees awaiting the PCA's to be emptied.

Lastly a photo I waited ages to take and unfortunately it was a really sunny day at Trevisco dries with the sun in the west making the shot difficult. Here we see 66093 running around her train ready to take a train of china clay to Fowey on the 27/08/10.

That freightliner 66 was so close to the wall at one point!! wonder he didnt scrape the paint off!!

Nice photos ....

Yes, it's a tight squeeze.

The loco is about as far into to the dries complex as is possible owing to the curvature of the track work.  There's a sign on the wall near this point telling drivers of Class 66's how far they can go.  Shunting of the wagons into the unloading bays is done by a County tractor with buffing bar and couplings.

I'll look out the other shots I took down at Moorswater.

Sounds like 66 506 might be a gonna, or at least need some serious attention.... my mate relieved me on it at 9am this morning with 6Y54 down at St.Albans, as he approached Luton it (literally) went bang and spewed oil everywhere! Luckily the train is top 'n' tailed so he's dragging the whole shebang down to Cricklewood to run round it before schlepping back to Toton.

It was a bit smokey when I got off it but then they're all like that these days....

Aye,

The other day, I watched a bloke ignore a 66/5 on a liner at South Moreton (lovely shot in full sun) 'cos it wasn't a Class 70..............

Take the mundane 'cos one day it won't be (the first 66's have been  here 15 years already) and at least it's still a freight with a loco on the front.................

Watch the dash for the last FGW HST's in service

A not brilliant photo of a very difficult train to photograph, it was spasmodic and unreliable, frequently not running and if it did it often ran very late - when it was dark.

Some more Cornish action.

Here's 66093 with a train of loaded CDA's at Golant in June 2010.

Could have put one of these in the 'tugs' thread but as there were more 66's than the one 60 here they are.  Anyway decided to go to Brocklesby Junction for the light engine movement on Saturday from immingham to Doncaster alas only two locos in the consist but one was a 60 and the other was the 'infamous' "Beast" 66606!  I think it is an interesting backdrop with the refinery of Immingham in the background and the junction where the freight meets the main line from Cleethorpes to Barnetby.

66051 on iron ores waits for 153319/153311 Cleethorpes to Lincoln

Having been cleared 66051 moves off to take the wrong road through the disused station before transferring across to the correct road and then onto the slow road to Barnetby.

Earlier than scheduled the two arrive.  Sometimes there can be half a dozen or so in line but the most I have seen is four.  So as said above 60079 pulled by that celebrity loco Beast 66606 and once more they have to wait before entering the junction but this time for Freightliner's 66529 on coal empties to Immingham.

The pair are then cleared for the slow road.

So having seen what I went for I was just about to call it a day when GBRF's 66729 appeared light engine from Immingham as well.  Well it would be rude not to!

Just to show that we are in deepest rural Lincolnshire where the farmers aren't that rich.

Carlisle today

Not notice such buildup of crud on the roof of these before.

Looks like they started to load the wagons before the wagons got under the loader...................

Mick

Here's FL 66602 looking some what rather tatty on what I think is the Earles cement train earlier this evening.

It's seen crossing from the slow on to the up fast at Harrowden Junction just north of Wellingborough.

Hi folks,

I must admit 66s have grown on me over the years and I have come to quite like them. A bit more variety would be nice, but at least they are "proper" locos.

Anyway, here are a few shots from me.

First up, a few taken during the Kingmoor Open Day 2011...

A magically levitating 66 426...

DRS 66413...

66427 up close and personal...

post-7247-0-48427100-1377692958_thumb.jpg

A couple of debranded 66s, recently acquired by DRS at the time...

And in 2010, Fastline 66434, again at Kingmoor...

Cheers
