What came first; the chicken; or the egg?

Well, the egg came first, closely followed by the bacon, sausage, and button mushrooms....

Oh yeah....

You forgot the grilled tomato and hash browns!

This mornings "fry-up" included both black pudding and white puddings, served deliciously at the St. Helens Hotel Dublin.

(One of my top 10 hotels in the world.)

Which Came First, The Chicken Or The Egg?

Philosophical Approach

For whereas the egg is a real egg, and the chicken is a real chicken, the egg is only a potential chicken.

However, since potentiality always precedes reality, the egg came first.

Creationist Approach

Going back in time, there was no beginning, and there have always been chickens and there have always been eggs.

OR

At one instant in the past, chickens were created from nothing, and they gave rise to eggs.

OR

At one instant in the past, eggs were created out of nothing, and they gave rise to chickens.

OR

At one instant in the past, both chickens and eggs were created simultaneously.

Scientific Approach

As far as we are able to tell, life originated on earth about one billion years ago.  Animals reproduced by laying eggs some time before live birth developed, and this preceded the existence of chickens.

So, at what instant in time did an animal identifiable as a chicken appear, and at what time did an egg identifiable as a chicken egg appear?

Since the animal hatches from its egg, I would posit that if an animal clearly identifiable as a chicken were to ‘be born’ it is logical to deduce that it existed as a chicken whilst still in its egg, and thus, the egg came first.

And why so many gynaecologists drive BMWs.

You don't even need a bumper sticker to spot the proctologists, they all drive Audis.
