Good evening, David. That’s a great set of photo’s of Ravenglass, with one on BR with the others of the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway. J4623, of 9, River Mite, in August, 1975, is a beautifully composed photo’ by your Dad of the locomotive on the turntable.

The photo’s of Gateshead, by the Tyneside Central Freight depot, on the 1st August, 1985, are an excellent selection. C7012, of 08384, is a superb photo’ which captures the depot well, and the 08 is seen shunting three tanks and two open wagons.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

Dave - if you want I can post this (with credit to you of course) on a Facebook group where there's a very high chance the 40 will be identified - up to you.

 Hi Beast66606,

You are welcome to post it on the Facebook group, it would be nice to know the loco number.  The photo is one of Dad's.

These photos show what an interesting railway we enjoyed in the 1970s. The first picture of the 31 on the long parcels train reminds me of a train that would terminate at York platform 16 (old numbering) every Saturday morning. We would be entertained by the loose shunting of the vans into the sidings during the day. Such a variety of vehicles, including examples from all four prenationalisation companies

Making me feel a bit homesick for Switzerland, spent too much time cruising recently.

Not been to Switzerland since pre covid. On the way home from the airport I heard on the radio the first Brit with Covid had been diagnosed.

Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of Switzerland, at Zürich Oerlikon, on the 18th August, 1988. C11478, of Ae3/6i, 10650, on the annual Pressefahrt press trip, you have taken a well composed shot of the lovely locomotive at the head of the train.

The photo’s of the Newcastle to Carlisle line at Hexham are a superb selection. C6746, of 31191, on the 9th March, 1985, is a most excellent three quarters portrait shot of the locomotive.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

A few photos around Sandsend of the line north from Scarborough to Middlesbrough. It is still open as far south as Boulby from Middlesbrough for the Boulby mine traffic.  There are also some photos at Weaverthorpe on the line from Scarborough to York in 1976.

Interesting set of pictures this morning David.  I've recently watched some YouTube videos of the coast line as it is today,  amazing how vegetation has grown up on that stretch especially round Sandsend tunnel portal.

It's looking very dodgy inside nowadays especially towards the northern end.

Must be getting on for 30 years since I last walked through it

Nice to see a picture of a disc 31. Very rare nowadays such a shame one has recently been scrapped

Good evening, David. That’s a great set of photo’s from around Sandsend of the line north from Scarborough to Middlesbrough, and also Weaverthorpe, on the Scarborough to York line in September, 1976. The last photo’ at Weaverthorpe, with a dmu on a Leeds to Scarborough extra is of interest despite the wet weather. The first three cars are an interesting hybrid set, formed of a Gloucester class 100 DMBS, then a Derby Lightweight class 108 TSL, and a Cravens class 105 DMCL is the third car.

The photo’s of the London Tilbury and Sothend line at Laindon in the late 70’s are a superb selection. C3713, on the 12th March, 1978, is a well composed shot of a digger at work on removing old compacted ballast.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

Hi David

Great images as always. J4394 above of the Deltic. I don’t think it is 55015 as that is Tulyar, the one in the image is a two line nameplate. No idea which one though.

Some great pictures there David,  green 40 in 75

The last on is actually on the down. Has the loco ran past the red?

Unusual for down  trains to use platform 1 but you have two pictures of it happening on here

That's what confused me about up and down.

It does appear to have gone past the red signal but I cannot remember the details of the signals at Darlington as to whether there is another signal further along.

The last photo was taken during the S&D 150 event when the station was exceptionally busy and some strange things seem to have happened.

I like the two men, with flat caps, walking along the platform. How often do folks carry a suitcase nowadays?  And David, it's 55005; 100%, as there are two distinctive marks by the nearside buffer. 9005 was the last Deltic I needed to cop the class, whilst D9004 was my first.

Many thanks Peter, I've changed the caption.

I wonder which Deltic it was in the last photo!

The signal might have reverted after the loco passed it?  Or could just be the effects of a zoom lens?

Hi Steve,  the track circuit block joint is normally a bit further on. Not good practice to run past platform starters even if they are off. It might be an optical illustration.

Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of Darlington from June and August, 1975. J4394, of class 55, 55005, on a down express in June, 1975, is a superb photo’ of the Deltic hauled train.

The photo’s of Manningtree are a splendid selection. J4306, of a Class 37, on a Peterborough to Parkeston Quay service, in May, 1975, is a great shot. I am, however, concerned about the man who can be seen walking, with his hands in his pockets, in the four foot on the left. I hope he was authorised to be there.

The last photo’ of a Class 47, on a Liverpool St to Norwich service, in April, 1978, is a most excellent photo’ of the white roofed 47.

With warmest regards,

Rob.
