Hi, Dave, great views of the bridge over The Kyle of Sutherland. Some nice typical train formations for that line in the '70's. Good detail for those wishing to make a model of the bridge. More photo's please.

All the best,

Great photo of the 26 on the goods at Invershin. Any ideas as to where  the cars were from/going to?

At the time I assumed Wick, but have no evidence for that and I've no idea where they were from.  Sorry.

I've been asked about photos of Cramlington, here in Northumberland on the ECML north of Newcastle.

By the way, for those of you who think Hadrian's Wall is the boundary between Scotland and England it isn't, most of Northumberland is north of the Wall.

My apologies for the colour balance in some of these, despite the originals slides being only 20 years old when I scanned them the colour had "gone off".  You can do a lot in Photoshop but it is hard to improve colours which just aren't there any more.

At this time the station was staffed part time, the station building was removed some years ago and replaced by a bus shelter.

There will be more photos of Cramlington as extras over the next few days.

These are perfect David thank you. And I do believe that is me at the station complete with bike! One of my many visits to have a chat with Mick the stationmaster, who owned the blue reliant in the car park. I look forward to seeing anything else you have, these are spot on for the period I am modelling.Maybes not looking forward to seeing more of myself though!

Did this end up at Shirebrook or was that another one?

Phil

Edit to point out that this is Dave's pic, not mine ( 5 likes.....?)

Wasn't that one D8237 aka ADB968002?

Certainly, I saw it on the scrap line at Toton in September 1982.

Wall (yes, there is a place of that name) served great cream teas in the '70s. Cramlington : Woolco, a hypermarket in the same era, abandoned a few decades later, I think.

Sorry Dave, but the first pic shows a train going round from Hawkesbury Street Junction and thus from Dover Piggery Priory. It probably originated at Ramsgate. As you can see, the line from Marine is on the v far left.

In the 4th pic, headcode 74 will be running via Canterbury East to Victoria, and will have a portion attached on the rear at Faversham.

But thanks all the same for the usual great pics!

Many thanks for the information, I've amended the captions.  I don't have any notes made actually on that day so when the slides came back  from Agfa I would have written down what I remembered (or thought I remembered) in my catalogue.    It was many years later that I started to make proper notes of what I saw, when I realised that things were changing.

Everyday common-o-garden shots, but I pore over every pixel! I remember that ballast cleaning operation. Do you remember the train that derailed a bogie at Dam Dykes crossing, the driver not noticing until he got to the station? Over 2 miles of track replaced the next Sunday, I remember 3 31's standing on permanent way trains in the station. Even got a cab ride on one....

Hi, Dave, great selection of photo's again today. Now about that class 31 in green with yellow ends a one small double arrow. I thought that the livery seemed familiar, in that in an Ian Allan ABC for 1970, on page 37, there is a photo' of D5624 in exactly the same livery.

Good to see Little Bytham, a terrific ECML location for photography and railway history. Looking forward to more photo's.

All the best,

A few more of Cramlington.  I do have a lot more taken at the station but I think the ones I've chosen show the infrastructure better than my other images.

Wonderful, wonderful. So useful. These are great for the structures as you say, but I would love to see the rest too. Are copies available to purchase?

 Lee,

I've sent you a PM.

Hi, Dave, such excellent photo's. That class 40 D342 is indeed in a thoroughly disgraceful state - I hope that it was not too long after that date that it would have been repainted! Great view of the signal gantry in that photo with class 45 number 68. Some good detail is visible. Please keep the photo's coming.

All the best,
