Hi Rob, I'm doing a bit of weathering and got a quick question about weathering powders, sure I've asked you before and the answer is in your topic somewhere but I tried to look but there's so many pages! ;)

When you apply the powders do you start with the lightest then put darker ones over the top or the other way round or does it not mater?

Many thanks.

Steve.

Morning Steve.

Yes, start with say the iron oxide on the metal work then use the black for areas where you might want add shading.

Dark earth to the underframe and perhaps lower wagon sides and ends.

Over to top then goes smoke to tone down any areas.

I will then revisit any areas using lighter colours if needed.

Roofs are done last, once the rest of the wagon is finished and sealed.

Hope this helps.

Rob.

I would detach the body from the chassis, Steve. This will reduce the likely hood of powders getting into the mechanism.

Also mask off the windows and remove once finished.

You can use white powder as well to lighten the panels........use in moderation.....!!!!@!@!@@!

I was innocently sanding some of the hardened tile grout on the road crossing at the end of 'Bethesda Sidings', when the door bell rang and a man came in and laid some lino down for us.

Were you floored, CK ???

No, I made him a cup of coffee and then had a cup of green tea myself.

We didn't discuss Arbroath or Hamilton Academicals.

Also, please don't take the reference to the above as any indication of any kind of conversation covering the topic of football or other sports. It wasn't that kind of scenario.

I bet you were discussing Smokies and innocently you thought he meant the fishy ones from Arbroath and the well documented habits of the HA Vice Chancellor, behind the Bicycle Sheds at the Staff Accommodation. We know what you are like. The plastic flooring Artisan was referring to Spliffs.

Argh.

Thanks Rob, I've done the panels using oil paints, never though about using powder, I've added a wash in the panel lines and spillage from the fuel filler points that were seen on quite a few 03's, just want to add powders on the roof and dirt on the sides and chassis now.

Steve.
