Mike Storey
Vans now require touching up, varnishing and weathering to complete. I am pleased how they have turned out. Doing the glazing and number plates was hard work! The higher roof version was my bad attempt using plasticard and filler, a bit too high for the version I was copying. Anyway now I have the more modern Kingfisher kits I will redo this one for the C&W section at TWY. Van 1.jpg Van 2.jpg Van 3.jpg Van 4.jpg Van 5.jpg It has been over six years since I started these, glad they are about done. Cheers. Fabulous Paul - one of the best car/van kit results I have seen - six years was worth it! Now all you have to do is get it dirty, like mine was, but that was the on-call van at Ashford. maybe Tonbridge kept theirs clean?
Lyddrail
I worked on some of the extra NSE locos for this years shows as I was doing my NSE 30th display for Telford. They were 33114, 47573, 08600 and 73004 (I did 03179 too but this will not run on TWY). There is some more work to do on all of them but mostly weathering, 08600 needs the most work with handrail alterations and possible repaint of the NSE blue. 73004 last ran on Maidstone Barracks as Bluebell Railway, but is now altered to de-named form. Cheers.

Nice job on the van , have to say your version is more than likely better than the real thing as it was when new !!!!! OMG they were the worst vans in the world in real life. By the way if it's six years old the real one would have plenty of rust on it by now. I remember a friend had one and within about 12 months there was rust forming around the wing quarter panels .....just in case you feel a bit of weathering is needed

I will take some pics of the models when I get a chance. Cheers.
Lyddrail
I have put the layout up and done most of the faults and damaged items for the next show. Next I have installed my replacement semaphore signal to the Redhill ground frame. It has been tested ok and just waits for the fixing and ballasting over the base. Signal at stop: Signal at off with distant colour light at green: Signal at off with colour light at yellow: Rear of the new signal: The signal was made by Borg-Rail who made a very good job of it based on photographs I supplied. I have just refreshed the C&W accommodation building to fit floors to the 2 sections with open doors, add door handles to the open doors, and fit interior items seen through doors and windows including painting the interior walls where not done before. Difficult to take photos of this, but I will try. Next refresh work is scenery in a couple of areas. Cheers. .
Lyddrail
The C&W accommodation has had a minor facelft, and I am close to adding items as the below pictures of the building site before the flats were built. The scene will be the stacked portacabins, containers (C-Rail), and general stuff in the compound. Most of this is ready to mount on the corner of the layout. This can be seen at the next outing at Bristol (Thornbury) 29th & 30th April & 1st May. Cheers.
Lyddrail
Finished most major items for the building site. See below. Will start fitting this evening. As the real development progressed the portacabins and containers moved towards the footbridge. I will be placing them in the early days of progress. I could do with a suitable JCB as the first prototype pic, but I think I will have to scratch this to get the right machine. Cheers.
Fat Controller
If you're prepared to wait a while, Paul, then I believe Oxford have acquired a licence to produce models of JCBs.

Brian, Thanks, that is interesting, although late 80s early 90s is usually Oxford's last releases. Cheers.
Lyddrail
I planted the items on the building site today. Fence to add then make and fit some small items to complete. Cheers.
Popular Post Lyddrail
Building site is now complete. The portacabins are not spot on, but as this is a temporary scene I didn't scratch more accurate ones. I have done a new road vehicle for the car park, a VW camper van I had seen in 1991, I would guess from a S&T fitter or signalman. Lastly, I have test run the China clay train to get it on the Down circuit, it has taken the loop for the Eurostar recovery train. The China clay train is from Mike Fraser except 3 wagons from me, although weathered by Mike. Cheers.

I'm trying to think which contractor's livery the Portacabins carry. GSE?

Lyddrail
looking great david Thanks David and everyone else who have posted likes etc. Gives me a boost after I started doing some static grass only to realise it was not working! Luckily only a small area before I found the batteries were not making contact. Sorted and did an off scene test that went alright. Will do the rest of the static grass tomorrow. Cheers. Lyddrail
Paul, this is an excellent layout! Can I ask, what make is the mini digger? Karl Karl, Glad you like the layout. It is from Wiking - 658 01 29 Mini Bagger HR 18. It was orange I painted it yellow so it better fitted my period. Cheers.

Brian, I thought I had seen something in similar colours, see pic taken at Hither Green of bogie bolsters used in one of the Kent London terminus stations to screen the public while building work was on going. Lyddrail
The works are finished and the layout dismantled ready to load tomorrow for this weekends show at Bristol (Thornbury). I completed the static grass I wanted to do which came out quite well. Below is the new building site with my 319/1 passing by. My NSE 47 will appear but as yet not as weathered as the photo below. The Tonbridge end shunters dog has been recreated as below, model then prototype. Come and see the further refreshed layout this weekend. Cheers.
Lyddrail
The layout performed well at the enjoyable Bristol show. I have a point to fix in the West Yard but not much more. I have been tidying the studio where the layout lives and it is now ready for the layout to be put back up soon. Started on extra NSE stock for this year's 30th anniversary, attending Showcase with a NSE demo and next outing for the layout at the Midland Railex in August. The model room is awash with NSE stock, 4Cig, 4Vep & 455/8 in early livery having working gangways and bar couplings fitted, 4Bep and deicer 008 in later livery receiving the same (all units are MTK). More 47s and a 50, plus completing livery work on 08600 Ivor and 73133 Blue Bell Railway. Will post some pics when progressed. Cheers.
Lyddrail
Continuing touching up paintwork on the multiple units plus the locos too. Below is a pic of my model room with NSE units and locos as far as the eye can see. Almost done painting, gangways made, next to install. Cheers.
