Departmental
Just a quick post to say thanks to the organisers of the day. It was a great day out and, as a first time visitor I was very impressed by the layouts and the demonstrators and the helpful attitude of all during the day. Well done!!! RMweb Gold Mr.S.corn78 Posted April 27, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 27, 2015 (edited) Hi all, Well another cracking show and well worth the travelling (only half way home at the moment). I always look forward to the event and to catch up with good friends and enjoy the high standard of modelling on show. Well done to CK for organising the event and for the ladies in the kitchen who work so hard to supply the masses with mouth watering cakes ( not that I got chance to have any ) and keeping the flow of pie and pasties going. As people have mentioned thanks must go to everyone who came, from those who brought a layout, did a demo or tried to relive the masses of their money. I managed not to spend anything but I have a shopping list for bits to get and I managed to get some work as well so a bonus all round I think. Thanks again and looking forward to next year Cheers Simon Edited April 27, 2015 by Mr.S.corn78
RICHARDCHAPMAN
Hi,Well travelled back to the seaside at Brixham after an interesting and enjoyable day. Thanks to all those involved and the Captain for inviting a layout that he hadn't seen,im glad he liked it. Milton Street seemed to work well with just some DG couplings needing attention. These after all the years of using them still obtain the most questions.Still items to do on the layout but after 5 years of building it and only used twice...whats the rush. Good to see people I know and havnt seen since I worked for Bachmann. I liked Hopton and at Hobbits End we ended up having a chat about "Paul" Some other great items such as Johns new Grass Machine which has to be the best ive seen.If you can keep the grass from escaping. Simons 3d items are nice along with Justins etched works of art. Again thanks for a good day and I look forward to another next year. Thanks again, Richard
RMweb Gold Popular Post Captain Kernow Posted April 27, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 27, 2015 Morning all, Too knackered last night to even contemplate turning the computer on, and I'll post some photos a bit later on, but just a quick 'thank you' to everyone who helped make it such a good day, especially those who turned out first thing to help set up and also those who helped clear up at the end of the day. A special thanks of course to the ladies in the catering team, and also to those chaps who spent rather more time in the kitchens than their hobby interests might otherwise indicate, helping with the catering, washing up etc. Also of course thanks to everyone who brought a layout, display, demo or trade stand. Congratulations to the modular team for the best ever modular set-up, featuring some superb woodwork by Mike (Sidecar Racer) and much, much improved baseboard connecting sections! I especially liked drawing visitors' attention to 'the layout that came on the train and bus, sitting next to the layout that came on the plane'... well done guys! There will, of course, be another Members Day at Taunton next April, in 2016, I will confirm the date once I've checked a couple of things. We certainly did well on the auction and raised a decent amount for The Railway Children. I haven't checked the catering monies yet, but I'll let you all know later when I've had a chance to do this, this evening hopefully.

RMweb Gold Popular Post Culmhead Posted April 27, 2015 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 27, 2015 I can only repeat the thanks that others have already posted, it was a thoroughly enjoyable day (and evening), but not such a good one for my wallet! It was also great to meet people behind the posts - a fantastic event. Just a handful of photos below that I took during the event - I was too busy yacking or playing on the modules to take many more. Have to go know as SWMBO is out at work and I have repatriate my purchases from the car to the shed!!!! Cheers, Aidan
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted April 27, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 27, 2015 Another Cap'n Kernow success ably abetted by Andy Y and backed by RMweb/Warners. This is really what so much of our hobby is about and Tim is to yet again be congratulated on achieving such an interesting and worthwhile show where folk can meet RMweb 'in the wild' (actually it's all very civilised of course). A pity that not Jeremy was there again (from the viewpoint of my wallet that is) and it was very kind of him to donate a raffle item which I duly managed to snaffle - and such was Simon's powers of selection when it came to stocking his stall that he actually managed to provide me with a present for Mrs Stationmaster in the shape of a book about shipping in the Plymouth area. Thanks too to the moduleteers for their forebearance with my enforced late arrival and early departure and a big thanks to Godfrey for the MLUs which made the joining of modules so much simpler and more precise than we have ever achieved in the past. Thanks also to the catering staff ., who happily filled my tea mug of considerable capacity without demur - the pie was extremely good (please note for next year) and not forgetting a certain Mr S.Corn who was very much part of that team. So another good Taunton weekend - well done Tim and team. And it was good to see the raffle raise so much - I await the final figure with interest as I hope we have managed a better total for The Railway Children charity than the not inconsiderable sum raised lat year.
Popular Post Andy Y
I've been trying to get a few snaps done amongst other jobs today to show the quality of what was on show. However I'd like to thank, once again, everyone who came this weekend. Maddy, Michelle and Leslie supported by Pugsley (Snr and Jnr) and Simon did a grand job in keeping everyone fed and watered to the highest standards of exhibition catering. Where else do you get a say in what's provided and the chance to pre-order at leisure? The Chicken and Ham pie was excellent and I petition for its inclusion next year! Thank you to everyone who exhibited who gave their time freely and travelled at their own cost to support the do; I think this year was superb in terms of quality and variety - you really would be hard pressed to see higher standards at an event combined with accessible fun and participation from the module committee. Thanks to donors and buyers in the charity auction, a handsome total and that will be combined with the catering total as Tim says to work out how much we collectively raised. Thank you to the members of Taunton MRG who again hosted for us on the Saturday evening with Tamerigg putting on a fine display. It continues to be a highlight of the year, such good fun as a day and it shows the hobby and forum at its very best (some of the trolls should bear in mind what so many put into the collective community before trying to have a snide dig elsewhere on the internet, we enjoyed ourselves!). Tim; you really have excelled yourself this year; well done! The usual helpful advice and solemnity from the set-up supervisory committee. I'm sure Mike needed it. David Brandreth treated us to a fine display of his models promoting the courses at Missenden. Thanks to John Farmer for the hands-on demo of the 55kV static machine; certainly the best one I've seen and used to date! St. Simon's excellent 'possession module'. Who mentioned sausages? Jerry showed me a lovely postcard type image of the actual location so I tried to capture the angle; it really is a splendid little scene. Andrew took the opportunity to get rid of the backscene so he could enjoy running Wheal Eilzabeth but I thought I'd pop one back in. BrianT's Abercynon Fach is superbly weathered and presented; a little gem. Rick's Boghouses must surely go down as the furthest a layout has travelled for it's first show; if not any show! Everyone I spoke to loved Simon's Hobbiton End, really well executed with plenty of modelling detail - something which would appeal to family and younger members at any show. A real treat to see. Maurice Hopper seems to have caught a nasty dose of Harrapitis. Richard Chapman's splendid 2mm scale back end of the 70s setting. St.Simon slips Newgate Lane in as the only exhibitor with 2 displays. I really like Tipham; simple but interesting and it could keep a shunter happy for hours. [Edit] I did get some comments late in the day relating to an unholy stink hygiene issues; normally we don't have such problems amongst the participants of such events but if I could ask the gentleman with the long grey hair and green t-shirt to please make sure it's addressed for any further events! It's not nice to let others suffer.

RICHARDCHAPMAN
Hi,Some great pics being shown.Even makes my effort look good. One thing I meant to say I liked Tipham but seemed to have written Hopton. Not sure what is was thinking about at the time.Just shows men cant multi task. I think we will have to build a P4 lectern for the Captain so he can be seen around the country preaching the word of good sausages!! Thanks Richard.

RMweb Gold Popular Post Trevellan Posted April 27, 2015 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 27, 2015 I've finally found time to edit a few snaps in between other things. This year felt a little different, with CK deploying two enforcers in the car park to deter gatecrashers and paparazzi. In the end I think they managed to scare off a couple of Brownies Here are a few interior shots in chronological order, starting with a rather quiet Abercynon. The "bus on the bridge" scene is somewhat different to the norm. I could almost hear the scraping noise... An urgent phone call to Chris Trerise last week secured a supply of Doncaster Green acrylic to "lush up" my grass on the day. Thanks Chris! The shot below shows it half done and the jury's still out on whether it's an improvement or not. There's definitely some weathering to do on the retaining wall and track. Godfrey's superb container terminal once again drew well-deserved praise. This shot shows the slightly anarchic nature of the modular layout, with a 57xx and two B sets passing in a sort of time warp. Even CK took time out from his supervising/cajoling/announcing to sit and admire Godfrey's dexterity with 4mm containers. Here's another shot of Rick with his layout, effectively claiming longest distance travelled for a layout for all time. Simon's rather nice diorama was ideal to showcase his 3D printed range of detailing products. And finally, a view of the modular layout during a quiet spell in the afternoon. Some of the banter and choice of language to describe train moves would have given the Railway Inspectorate apoplexy. We had fun though. Mike (Stationmaster) is receiving a train from Stu, who waits to see if it makes it. Thanks again to Tim, Andy and everyone else involved in running the event. It was well worth the trip. Thanks also to Bob, Steve and the other Taunton MRG members for their hospitality on Saturday, including allowing me to run-in a couple of DMUs on Tamerig Central. On Sunday Bob produced a starter kit for home-made corridor connections which I must now tackle!

Albert Bridge
Hi All Ian and Phil will be taking Tipham to Derby roundhouse in a couple of weeks time. Phil is the one with the beard that appears behind the layout in one or two shots, he doesn't bite if you buy him sufficient real all or Plymouth Gin and tonics. Steve was the clean shaven one. Unfortunately a trip to Wales with his Mrs prevents his attendance at Derby. They had a good day on Sunday by all accounts, although there has been some muttering about a lack of sausage sandwiches and bacon butties, which they would have been prepared to pay hard cash for when they arrived and set up. I am led to believe that the good folk at Barnstaple provide a bacon butty service.
Popular Post St. Simon
Hi, As promised, here’s a more in depth account of the weekend! Muz picked me up from my place in Reading on Saturday and after a peaceful drive, we arrived at Williton on the WSR, in time to see this arrive: We took the time to take a few pictures, as there was no southern at Williton, Muz was reduced to photographing a Great Western Engine: Although the cure was not far behind when we moved to Minehead for a bit to eat: After seeing the 33 trot around, and Muz taking a picture of myself cuddling a Location Cabinet (No, I don’t take my job that seriously, I needed some dimensions!), we moved back to Bishops Lydeard to join the other members for a pleasant pre-evening social at the Taunton Model Railway Group, once again thank you very much for allowing us to come in and drink your tea and eat you biscuits (oh and playing trains!). We retired to the Lethbridge Arms and had a lovely meal (even so that a certain captain had two starters!) and had a chat about all things Railway. We were up bright and early to get down to the hall to help Tim and the others set up (there was nothing in the job description and moving tables Tim!), and it appeared everything went well, apart from something on the module, which I don’t pretend to understand, but we got it sorted! We day went quite quickly and it was really nice to chat to faces new and old about various matters and learn some new stuff, and see some really good layouts: Abercynon Fach Milton Street Wheal Elizabeth Tucking Mill Tipham Netherhope Halt I’m afraid that’s all the photos I’ve got, I was too busy chatting to people, but all the layouts were superb and of a really high quality. I also got distracted by the Auction, which was hosted by the good captain and Mr York, which did somehow remind me of storage hunters: Oh and I can confirm that the money for the Network Rail Mug I purchased will not be coming out of expenses it was nice to see so many dive deep for charity. After the auction, everything went back to normal: Although the modular room was quiet: I was honoured to be allowed to be part of the modular team this year and I hoped everybody liked my contribution and I’m glad it worked! The other modules were great and worked very well. My other contribution was Newgate Lane and my 3D Printed stuff, both I hope were well received and my tweety birds didn’t annoy too much! I had some interest in the 3D Printed stuff and I came away with a few suggestions, which will keep me going. All in all a very nice day and once again thanks to Tim and Andy for organising it, as well as the catering team for providing wonderful food (I regret not getting a piece of the pie as it looked great!) and all the members for the company and exhibits!
