Concurring with BlackRat, perhaps an alternative career would suit. There is a tendency to be wrapped (and often blinkered) into a career spiral that moves in ever decreasing circles before finally disappearing up somewhere unpleasant; I fear you are in danger of replicating the exploits of the oozlum bird if you continue to pursue a career in education!

Oh so true.

My father always pushed us to follow promotion in your chosen carreer as the only way forward. Odd that he chose to bail out at one point and go do something else despite still preaching to us to carry on up the career ladder.

I know quite a few that went up to the next level to my current postion for little reward only to go back down a level. Its never appealed to me and even thinking of packing it in for a lower level of income (winning the lottery excepted).

Unlike some furry animals supposedley have, we humans only have one chance of life.

The problem is that many of us look for Utopia in another form of career.

Promotion isn't everything, happiness and work life balance is.

Seen so many marriages fail, breakdowns, physical illness due to stress and several suicides.

Trying to find utopia, always thinking bigger is better or somehow Promotion is the route to happiness.

Yes for many it can be, but for others.....

You are a teacher, isnt that a career?

Maybe it's time for a total change of direction.

At the moment you seem to be in a rut and that the glass is always half empty.........it's down to you to perhaps make a few life changing decisions before you get totally stuck.

There's several lifetimes of knowledge and experience on here and I'm sure many will only be to willing to offer whatever advice they can.

Several of us have done it, with no regrets whatsoever........

It's often to easy not to make those life changing decisions, and if you don't do it now, I'll guarantee you'll regret it in later life.

Go for it.

Evening everyone

After a foggy start it turned out to be a beautiful day and quite warm too! Although we did start to rain just after 6:00, which lasted for the rest of the evening, it’s still p!ss!ng down now.

Great progress has been made on the radiator covers, the first one is now ready for painting and a start has been made on the second. Hopefully by this time tomorrow they will both be ready for painting.

Isnt it strange how some things that you are taught never leave you! I had a part time job at a local butchers during the last couple of years before I left school, in the few months between leaving school and starting work, I worked full time there. One of the things the guy in charge instilled me was, if I dropped a knife, was raise your hands and step backwards, something I still do to this day!

I’ve not had what’s called a higher education, I left school a couple of months before my 16th birthday, with 5 CSE’s and one ‘O’ level (in technical drawing). In September I started my apprenticeship at British Steel. All my subsequent qualifications are based on my chosen career as an electrician, namely an ONC, HNC and HND in Electrical and Electronic engineering. In 2005 I also became an A1 assessor, this was so that I could assess the oncoming wave of apprentices that the company was going to take on.

Goodnight all.

At the dawning of another day, greetings, and thanks to those who have proffered more good wishes.

Did I really say that I would sort out my travel insurance yesterday?  I reckoned without AA Insurance!  I was told that the system in the call centre which enables quotes to be given over the phone is down.  In an effort to be helpful the call centre worker directed me to the AA webshite.  He did not appear to know that it will not allow prospective policy holders to enter a departure date more than six months in advance.  This is one example too far of “the computer says no”.  Fortunately the travel company is happy for me to delay obtaining the insurance provided that it is all sorted by the time the balance of the price of the holiday is due.  The way I feel at the moment the AA can go whistle.  I took the opportunity of setting in motion the slight modification to the itinerary that I desire and had a quote before lunchtime.  Oh, and I got the ironing done.

Today I am spending the day with Poorly Pal.  I wonder what he will put in our sandwiches?  The fodder run will have to wait till tomorrow

Like others, I was sorry to hear Robert’s news of his father and Andy ID’s of his son.  The list of those deserving of warm thoughts grows ever longer.  Robert and Andy join Tony and Aditi, Debs, Simon and Mal as well as all others who deserve them.

Mooring Awl, Inner Temple Here,

Another reasonable nights sleep,

Dull, Grey and drizzly with evidence of rain having recently occured.., Ben The Border Collie charged down the garden chasing all the birds away this morning, he seemed a happy boy.

Work is a disaster, We have 2 local netwrok drives available ( I normally have access to 6), which are local because they need the speed. However all the other drives are remote somewhere and we have no access this morning. This means the major system is at a standstill, as I need data off of a drive in order to run it. If I don't get the data shortly then it won't be finished today, as it's a five hour semi-automatic run, before I can run the cross check.

I do have an Item in from Ireland, for which I can do some work, however without some more data, I won't know if the answers I have are correct, so I could be wasting my time...

First measurement taken, 10000.1664

See see from the various posts, the problems of teaching, I cannot offer any advice as I have had nothing to do with sgoil for 41 years or school for 47 years.

All I know is there are B*****ds, Idiots, and incompetents, in management, in any walk of life, that can make your life a misery..

Second measurement 100.000503

I've had 5 Jobs in my life, all in very big companies (including the RAF) in three jobs I was made redundant and one I chose to leave as they moved away from where I lived. In all there was someone who was  a pain :beee: , one definately affected my career badly. In this company the pain wasn't directly above me although what he did affected people who didn't work for him including me, after he had stabbed a lot of backs, he got his promotion and went elsewhere :dancer: . My direct boss is one of the best I've had, it probably helps we are both working our ticket to retirement within a couple of months of each other..

Third Measurement, 9.99985818

Well, after revising above,

Fourth measurement 1.00000553

Time too.... change all the leads round for a different set of measurements...

Morning all.

Raining here.

Not planning to do much today.

I managed to get many of the financial things associated with Matthew if not sorted, then at least started.

We received some lovely letters and images from students Matthew knew in Utrecht yesterday.

Morning all

Damp and misty here.

Taking mum to the opticians to get a referral to NHS cataract specialist. It's really getting bad now and she can hardly read so the sooner it's done the better.

GETTING IT CHECKED: meanwhile, I have follow-up CT scan this afternoon from neck to groin which will show up what's left - should be low-grade cancers treatable by chemotherapy. We'll see. It's not the scan which is worrying, it's the waiting 10 days for the results and the meeting where they tell you the results. Course, no point worrying because whatever is there is there.

'Twas ever thus.

Hope you all have a good day, whether getting things checked or not.

Network now working,  major system now running... will it make it in time?

Next measurment 24.9999512

Viscounts they used to use them on some of the Outer Hebridean routes, there was much concern on the Islands when they were replaced, could the replacement take a coffin? Final return Islanders were often in the passenger compartment loaded across the back hidden by a curtain.

Morning All

From a wet and windy village just East of Lancaster.

Been a while lurking and have finally caught up after a few days of just about getting to the point of posting, and being disturbed by other matters.

It seems that a lot of water has passed under the ER bridge since I last posted, and I can only offer the usual generic greetings to those ailing, of which there seem to be a fair few at present, and a belated congrats to the Beast on his nuptuals.  Of course, Debs has to be uppermost in my mind, but Mal, Simon. Andy and others, I am also sending supportive vibes in your direction.  And Chris F, pleased to see that the black dog is still safely in its kennel, and long may it stay there.

Home move is not going at all at present, as the market is quite flat, and there have been very few (that is to say none) viewings so far.  However, we do hope that this will change soon, as traditionally the buyers start to come out of the woodwork in April.

Other than that, Cockwomble of the week award goes to the driver of the black Golf which was on my tail this morning on my return from taking 30747 to work, in a 20mph zone, and who decided to overtake me (I was doing 25 at the time) doing about 50, then shot off into the middle distance, only to turn right a couple of hundred yards later, and to get stuck in a traffic queue at a set of contractor's lights where I caught up with him, and as soon as we got the green, he was off again.

Back tomorrow (hopefully).

Regards to All

Stewart

Good morning everyone

It’s a dull and damp day here in the northwest, I’m glad I managed to get what work I needed to do in the workshop done yesterday!

Once breakfast has been finished, I’ll be heading off back down to middle earth to continue work on the radiator covers.

Mal. Fingers crossed for your test results, I’m afraid waiting is all you can do isn’t it?

Back later.

Good morning to all, from the 'drier' side of Britain.  (Stop laughing at the back, please)

Raining canines and felines as always but perhaps drying up later today.

Off to Peterborough late afternoon to let Mr Pathak view his wonderful joint surgery on the middle digit, and for an examination by Sarah, the physiotherapist.  Back for evening meal with Darling Daughter.

Younger version of me is enjoying evenings with the tele and a glass or two of the amber nectar - D-in-Law and Grandkids are on 'holiday' with her Parents in a caravan in Cleethorpes and getting rain-burnt, no doubt. Son does not do caravan and certainly not with his In-laws.

Morning all from Estuary-Land. Dull but dry here this morning and the seaweed wranglers reckon there might even be a strange yellow orb in the sky this afternoon. Spring is definitely on its way, during the trip out last Saturday the mayflower was coming out and I even spotted a hen pheasant from the train.

Good morning all*

I'm busy cutting slates and tiles - 4mm scale and going cross-eyed with it.

There, that should bring Her Debship running. If it doesn't I'll post a photo.

Thoughts obviously in that direction - and to all others struggling with various trials and tribulations.

Thoughts too with those ERs we haven't seen for a while.  Internet friendships can be so transient, often leaving loose ends.

*I'm lying, it's an absolutely awful morning here. I got soaked through just putting the bins out earlier.

I managed to make contact with someone who knew Matthew in Calgary. He did some voluntary work there and I recognised the name of the person who wrote a reference for him when he left Canada.
