RMweb Premium ColinK Posted May 22, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 22, 2015 The connection should work. There are extra staff on the train to help shut doors and stop people getting off at the wtong place at stations with short platforms. I was talking to them yesterday. These people have to make the 5 minute connection at Barrow too. So the train can't go without them.
kevpeo
I saw those on my way home from work! Day off today, so I availed myself of 37 609 to Seascale for 37 419 back. I may even do them to/from Foxfield tonight for a couple of 'jars'. Kev. How lucky am I? For some reason the sets were swapped at lunchtime so I got 409 and 423 tonight! To Ravenglass in the end for The Ratty Arms. Kev.
kevpeo
419 was due an exam so has been swapped for 611 according to my "sources". And guess who has managed to get his working hours changed to allow me to commute by "tractor" for the week!
11B
One of my local gen sites is bemoaning the fitment of window bars. Probably a good idea to keep the idiots caged in around the Maryport area. And it means that lineside photos aren't ruined by flailers....... Cheers, Mick Just seen a mates photos on Facebook, seems the bars are fitted to the inside of the doors! Dam.... Steve-e
Just seen a mates photos on Facebook, seems the bars are fitted to the inside of the doors! Dam.... I did the Nuclear Express' yesterday and took a couple of internal shots that maybe useful to the modeller. Yes the windows have internal bars on. Overhearing a conversation the design is been looked at to stop people sticking their heads out while providing a more user friendly way to get your arm out. They are a bit tight to get your arms through to open the door in the old fashioned way of dropping the window sticking your arm out and twisting the handle it may have been just my chubby arms... I did notice a lady shouting for platform attendants at Workington to assist her as she couldn't manage it. They do have 2 helpers per train now who stand in the vestibules to assist opening the doors for people and the Guard does announce which coaches you need to be in to alight as some of the platforms are short (even though some did look to have long enough platforms they were just overgrown with weeds and had been shortened for the units on the line) The other thing of note is that every other window has one of these large stickers on. Again listening in to the same conversation (I'm a nosy ....) the guy was saying these were also been looked at for a smaller version further up the window as these ones detracted from the view especially for smaller children. The guy did come across as been very proud of the loco hauled stock and the line as a whole which was nice to hear. Cheers Steve
Steve-e
Here are some images from the Cumbrian coast on Saturday 23rd May 2015 My moves were 2C32 05:15 Carlisle - Barrow in Furness 37611 top 37409 tail from Carlisle to Barrow 2C41 08:45 Barrow in Furness to Carlisle 37409 top 37611 tail from Barrow to Sellafield 2C40 08:42 Carlisle - Barrow in Furness 37423 top 37609 tail from Sellafield to Barrow 2C45 11:38 Barrow in Furness to Carlisle Barrow to Carlisle. 37611 arrived late from Kingmoor with the stock which allowed 66111 with the Kingmoor - Dalston tanks the line to Dalston putting the train around 8 minutes late for the rest of the journey. Passing the other set at Sellafield 37611 left and 37609 right. 37609 with the other set at Sellafield you can see the large Northern sticker as mentioned above these are on every other window then off set on the other side so the first window blank then every other one. I wanted to go to Barrow on this first train as it gave around 45 minutes to take photos etc.. this only happens on a Saturday as the rest of the week the train goes through to Preston. 185109 with a Barrow - Manchester Airport service with the 37's in the bay platform, This used to be a through platform as I have pictures of 31's in the same spot. Another view of 37611 having arrived at Barrow. The Cumbrian Riviera of Barrow in Furness (bet it's the first time it's been called that.) The other end now forming the 08:45 service to Carlisle with 37409 at the front. 37409 ticks over awaiting the off. More to follow. Steve
Steve-e
Some more from Saturday 23rd May 2015 The weather was great and I would recommend travelling the line to anyone in my opinion it beats the S&C for scenery try one side one way and t'other coming back for two totally different journeys. The highlight for me was leaving Whitehaven southbound when you go through the tunnel especially with the vestibule windows open very reminiscent of blasting out of Glasgow Queen Street with a Class 37 on the front, 37611 sits in a quiet Barrow station I was surprised at the lack of Bashers, I remember the Cambrian coasts during 86 - 87 when the trains were wedged with Bashers. There were more norms got on later on in the day with the trains going into Barrow and Carlisle how they all fit in a 153 I don't know. 37611 again Barrow. As I said previously the first train from Carlisle on a Saturday gives opportunity for some different station shots. General view of Sunny Barrow 185109 + 37611 Across the lawn at Barrow. These have popped up at every station. Remind me of those "Santa stop here!" signs you see in Gardens at Christmas. "Dear DRS please can I have one for me front Garden." Thanks Big Steve-e 37423 approaching Sellafield box. 37423 Token exchange. 37423 powers up to return to Barrow with 2C34 14:33 Carlisle to Barrow. 37609 swinging on the rear back to Barrow. RMweb Premium ColinK Posted May 24, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 24, 2015 Glad to see everyone enjoying the 37s on the Cumbrian Coast line. You must like early starts! I'm going to have another ride next week. Meanwhile, SHMBO wanted a day out, somehow we ended up at Nethertown just as both trains were due.

11B
Hi All, Can anyone shed any light on tomorrows workings please? I was thinking of a quick trip from Carnforth to Preston and back..... looking at http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/advanced/PRE/2015/05/28/0935 I see the loco hauled service (2C32 Carlisle - Preston service) arrive at Preston but the 10.04 (2C47) departure to Barrow does not seem to on, yet it is there for Friday!!!! Any thoughts please? Thanks Ian Edited May 27, 2015 by 11B
Powerhaul 70 Pey
After working in Cumbria for the best part of a week and a half I finally managed to catch one of the loco hauled Cumbrian coast services. I finished my job in Whitehaven and decided to have a drive down to the coast road to Seascale just south of Sellafield Powerstation. 37609 was at the front of the train. 37423 was on the rear I am going to post some other pictures of the two locos in the "Class 37 Photos Tread"
woodenhead
There were more norms got on later on in the day with the trains going into Barrow and Carlisle how they all fit in a 153 I don't know. Steve Because the locals are banned from carrying their sheep on a 153! I do like the 'Barrow Riviera" tropical plants on the station, must grow as a result of the heat from the nuclear subs. What times do the trains run from Preston? Perhaps I might manage one of these services on my regular trips to Barrow.

long island jack
Not a great deal of change this week, still the usual culprits 409 leaving Parton 419 after leaving Harrington 423 laving Workington 419-611 along the sea wall, reduce to 3 coaches Ray p.s think Thursday is when they change set around ,hence no 10.04 Preston, but don't hold me to that!!!

long island jack
Due to a broken rail north of Workington,2c33 terminated at Workington, this gave a rare photo opportunity! 423 crossing over to form the 2c40 09.35 (08.42 CAR)Workington to Barrow, this won't have suited the bashers!!!!
