  1. Back to the layout and I've been looking again at that faded backscene that overlooks my fiddleyard/storage sidings.Shall I replace it before the nights draw in or am I being a tad fussy considering where it's situated.I can get the ID backscene to carries on from the one I did in June. The old one will practically fall off [hopefully !]. http://www.newmodellersshop.co.uk/images/backscenes/208b_2.jpg
  2. Well done Cardiff. At least one CCFC can win at home today !

Not that Coventry play at home these days, but at least they must be entertaining to watch 5-4 and 4-4 in Sixfields games!

  3. Welcome to the forum Ralf.Fit the bufferbeam detail and cut off that hideous front coupling and the front end will be much improved.Like you say, she's a beauty.
  4. Regauge a couple of Hornby Granges to EM preferably in GWR livery.. You know they would look nice on St Blazey.
  5. How about this selection then..... http://www.nrm.org.uk/ourcollection/photo?group=Sellick%20collection&objid=1997-7219_RJS_CR_131
  6. You've done a cracking job of building that.
  7. Well the power of RMweb.I mentioned [moaned even] that I missed out on the initial batch of Hornbys SR bogie van.Well a very kind member of this parish,Olddudders, no less has come up trumps in the sense he's sent me his nearly finished Ratio kit for use on Brent.I bet there will be quite a few with the Hornby model coming out.I will add the door grab rails and other bits .Its a lovely kit and he's done a cracking job. I will have it running alongside my Hornby van C and the Bachmann PLV when its released. A really nice gesture from Olddudders.
  8. The evening sun catches the water as 2884 class 3864 of Laira passes with an up train of empty cattle vans.... A little while later a rather filthy mogul 43xx trundles by with some fruit d vans...
  9. I actually think a few 45xx's would look at treat on this layout.[Ducks for cover !]
  10. A Great Western wagon kit purchased. You kept that quiet.
  11. How about a Cornish pasty bought and eaten in the West Midlands then Chris.Sorry no lizard.
  12. Whoever ballasted the trackwork also deserves a pat on the back.Quality scenics all round. It looks real.
  13. SR WC class 34016 'Bodmin' pulling a rake of Great Western coaches...

Is that the Exeter Plymouth train worked by SR locos to keep there route knowledge of the GW main line in case of diversions ?

Yes I think so.Its an Exeter/Plymouth stopper in '54 taken near Cornwood.

Ah, Bodders in original Spam can. That explains it all.

  14. The thing that stands out for me is those hideous wheels on the Dapol County.Nothing finesse about those and not as easy to remedy as a smokebox door handle !
  15. Can you imagine Riley or Peters with a digital camera though. Here's two more versions making that four of the same photo. Now that's what I call value for money !
  16. The evening sun catches the water's edge as 45xx class 4547 passes with a local train.A couple of horseboxes are attached to be filled on arrival at destination.I've used the old photo setting in our Image Editor instead of b&w for a change.Feedback if possible.
  17. The final double header of the weekend sees my favourite Castle piloting a Hall on an up express featuring a SR luggage van at the front. That'll please Spam's. 5011 'Tintagel Castle' and 4948 'Northwick Hall' do the honours.Following shortly afterwards was a pair of prairies in the shape of 4540/7 with a b set and van.
  18. Recently inspired by the Pendon sea wall photos in BRM ,I hope you don't mind me posting one of my own creations with Castle class 5011 'Tintagel Castle' passing with a down express to Plymouth as 2884 class 3864 trundles by with an up empty cattle van train.
  19. Its now mid afternoon as 2884 class 3864 pilots an unidenified Hall class with a train of vans heading for Hackney Sidings.Followed soon after with a pair of Granges in 6829 'Burmington Grange' and 6814 'Enborne Garange' on an up express.
  20. Another sunny Sunday morning sees the first train of the day.A pair of engines with 5525 leading brings a train of empties round the estuaries curve. The unidentified pannier is probably going to Tigley Junction shed for later work duties. Of course the 'unidentified' loco is great from a modellers /operators point of view as the loco stud can look larger than it is in reality. You can use same loco again in another sequence.
  21. Better stop dreaming of the quiet life, cos its the one we'll never know. And quit running for that runaway bus,cos those rosey days are few...

I had to look that up, nice lyrics!

  22. The spotters are getting their monies worth today as a Manor class 7804 'Baydon Manor' pilots an unidentified Grange on another up express.I'm pushing my timeframe to model 7804 as she was Laira based in 1948.Photos of her in the West Country are rare. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/51541-looking-for-photos-of-7804-baydon-manor/
  23. Across the estuary and here we have a pair of Castles with 4097 'Kenilworth Castle' piloting an unidentified one on an up express.
  24. Well as I've said already its double header weekend.I'm a big fan of the likes R.C. Riley and Norman Lockett plus other photographers of the day who's work inspires people like myself who aren't old enough to have witnessed mainline steam let alone the late 40's. One such inspiring train was the up milk from Penzance of which there was two daily from 1946. Its a bright summers morning as we see Hall class 4948 'Northwick Hall' piloting 2884 class 3864 on a relatively small milk train with a pbv at the rear,
