  1. A couple of cross eyed 40's. When modelling the split box 40's its always best to try and find a pic of the one your doing as the "eyes" can be anywhere. 40135 at Preston c.1983 40136 looking rather clean at Carlisle 10/08/1977 I beleive it was still a Green Machine as late as March 1977 so probably taken within a few months of re-painting. Its interesting to compare the shades of Yellow and Blue over time. The trouble I've found with most of my photos is I've concentrated on the loco when photographing rather than the bigger picture and have missed so much additional detail ... Oh to turn back the clock.... Steve
  2. 31200+31324 at Heysham Harbour with "The Morecambe Bay Marauder" Railtour from Taunton 09/04/1988 Cheers Steve
  3. Hows about this then for the ultimate snowplough... 20028 fitted with the Ultimate plough at Eastfield c.1982/3 The back of the plough showing how it replaced the buffers. The front of the plough this one was to be fitted to 20045 20028 Eastfield the other end c.1982/83 The plough blades look very similar to the ones attached to the Network Rail "Beilhack" ploughs that are still going to this day some 30 years later. There's a great picture of one in use on Flickr https://www.flickr.com/photos/eastfield/15691565590/ Cheers Steve
  4. Here is a Study of Class 40 40121 HM at York c.1982 Overall shot of 40121 Bogie detail and missing water tank Missing water tank area. Cab number detail Driver door detail Nose end detail. Hope they are of use to someone. Cheers Steve
  5. I liked these nice set of Social History and also it looks like one of those jokes "How many men does it take to put an electrification mast up ...." Steve
  6. Dont forget even if you dont want to buy a Pendalino for whatever reason you can still contribute to the cause through the Kickstarter site. You just choose the 1st option of donating £2 or more and you get A digital poster / desktop image and a thank you on our website. We know that some people may wish to support the project, but either not want or be able to afford a Pendolino. As I don't have the funds or the need for a N Gauge Pendalino but I'd like to support those who support the hobby I've gone for this option and donated. So this maybe an option for some or all who would like to see the project succeed. Another idea maybe if people think they are just giving there money away and not seeing anything perhaps if the total raised in this section went on to puchase a set of the equivalent value raised and that set donated to a charity to auction off? for example if we can raise £255 in the 1st section by donating this would buy a 9 Car set which would then be auctioned off with the proceeds going to a Charity voted for by RMweb users? If we get £510 then two sets etc.... Is this a possibility?? Steve
  7. Something a bit different but class 37 related.... Naming ceremonies I name this ship locomotive... 37420 The Scottish Hosteller 28/06/1986 at Inverness 37420 "The Scottish Hosteller" 37688 Kingmoor TMD at Carlisle Kingmoor 07/07/07 . 37688 Kingmoor TMD. Cheers Steve

  12. 40012 was always a favourite of mine probably as it hung on for so long. With nothing better to do after the festive period it was off to Leeds in 1985 40012 at Carlisle 1E23 10:40 Carlisle - Leeds 2nd January 1985 40012 at Skipton 1E23 10:40 Carlisle - Leeds 2nd January 1985 40012 at Leeds same day 02/01/1985 Later on in 1986 40012 was one of a few class 40's used for the Crewe re-modelling so 40012 with new number 97407 and old number 212 seen at Preston. 97407 awaits its fate in the Carlisle Kingmoor Scrap line c.1986 luckily it was preserved. Cheers Steve
  13. The crew of 31196 seem to be having problems with the points at York c.1982 I can only guess at their conversation but it probably went something like this below..... " 'tha' bit theear needs ta connect, Bugga insulfrog points 'n dcc why can't thee lay electrofrog int' yard..." "That's it gerr 'a' gurt bray sa we can wedge it shut wi' dis bit o' wood ..." "good job lad that's sorted it... naw for eur sharp run a' it 'n 'ope we clear t' dead section!!" Steve
  14. Dingwall on the line north from Inverness where you used to get off the Far North train to catch the following Kyle train to maximise the number of 37's for haulage... Happy Days.. 37261 in happier times compared to the previous photos. Dingwall 1985 37051 was a bit of a rare one for the line in 1985 arriving at Dingwall 37260 Dingwall c.1985 Cheers Steve
  15. Hadn't seen this thread before But here's some of my collection... 3 from the Lancashire outpost that is Morecambe unfortunatly its now a bit run down and not a patch on the 1970's when I went there on Holiday 299 (40099) at Morecambe 22/07/1973 299 (40099) at Sunny Morecambe by the sea 22/07/1973 It must have been some kind of rail open day as behind it is E3018 later 81016 bit of an excuse for modellers to have an electric in a platform with its pan up but no wires.. 40197 runs round its oil tanks at Morecambe c.1981 Cheers Steve PS. not my shots but I own the copyright.
  16. Bit of an odd one a Class 33 with black snowploughs?? The photo is of 33056 The Burma Star at Stratford Open Day c.1979/ Selhurst 1980. I'm wondering if the Black Ploughs were connected to the Funeral Train of The Earl Mountbatten of Burma which the loco hauled in 1979 or were a Southern Region thing in general? Cheers Steve
  17. I only ever got a couple of pics "out West" looking at Rays great pics wish I'd gone out more anyway here are the few I have 47157 at Workington Station yard. C.1987 47354 accelerates out of Maryport loading terminal c.1987 not quite out west but 47331 coming off the Workington line at Carlisle with a Coal Train c.1990 Regards Steve
  18. Despite living in Carlisle I never looked how the entrance to the "Dive Bar" worked I presumed it was part of the fabric so was a bit shocked to find it floating in the air... Luckily I only ventured down the steps once... that was enough.. I took some photos but by the sounds of it you have already completed the section but may be of use to someone. View from the alley way looking up Another view looking up. Looking down from the bridge. The top of the wall on the bridge left of entrance. For those interested in "ghost signs" down the alleyway under the building to the left of the Hotel is this Beauty for the British Paints Ltd ... I've never seen anything enter or exit and assume its never used but the No Parking is always respected as is the original paintwork from the Graffiti artists. Cheers Steve

  21. Nice photos wasn't 31111 not nicknamed "sticks" due to the number of 1's in the number? It may have been something local.
  22. I look at the picture and everytime I only see James the Red engine from Thomas... Actually when you read the words with your Thomas head on it does sound a bit like a new movie script ...... http://www.oxfordrail.com/
  23. Just one today, a different view of Bristol Bath Road and a different angle on the Class 37. Shows how to weather the roof and nose area for the modeller and also some nice track weathering and some nice depot touches to the right... Hopefully of use to someone. 37256 Bristol Bath Road 17/11/1984 Cheers Steve
  24. They have updated the webpage at http://www.oxfordrail.com/ to this His past is hidden from me now. But be quite clear I make this vow. To find the truth of why he went. Those buried thoughts that he has sent. The steam, the dust, which filled his eyes. The coal, the sweat, that made him cry. The heat, the smoke, which made him die. Oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why... 2nd last line Die - reference to Die cast perhaps? Last line there are 4 Oh's , 4 whys, and 2 words each time 4-4-2 or it could be with the Oh leading 0-4-4 0h - 4Whys - 4 times Dont know any more...
