Stunning detail! Can't wait to see this develop.
Thanks, I am quite pleased with it. You just can't imagine how bade it was when I got it. I have been messing with it for a couple of years on and off. More off than on.
-
When it cam out the cupboard it was a mixture of brass black and tarnish not much brass at all. I am actually looking forward to getting this painted.
-
I reckon it was the porter. A set of whiskers like he has to hide behind. Plus porters tend to be everywhere but never where they should be!!!!
-
Paint sticks to solder better than brass, Long as there are no lumpy bits you will be fine.
-
Now that is very tipical, not thinking beyond the usual. Made my wife and I laugh.

Superb. Sounds like you've brought a stock of detailing items with you to Brazil?
Thanks Mikkel, I tried to make sure I had the bits for all the locos I had before I came. I have a few bits to get still for a few locos. but as long as the cost is not great you seem to get it through customs with out charge.
-
Thanks Snitzi and Rob. I am trying my best. I don't think it was actually the kit that was bad, but the original construction.
-
It is an excellent model. Your weathering skills put mine to shame. I like the way you get the the changes in the scenery so seemlessly.
-
Looking better everytime I see it well done.
-
Why not use your RSU as you have one, it will do 99% of all your soldering tasks. I use mine for adding white metal to etched kits too. I always used to have 2 or 3 irons running on the bench most of the time now I only get one out to connect the wires.
-
I always 1x1 or smaller longitudinally this stops most of the flexing and gives you somewhere to screw through witout putting more blocks in.
-
I am very impressedwith the locos and stock. Seeing the layout makes me want one even more.

Going by how wellyou have done with this kit, why not do it again? You will of learnt a lot, and in general it becomes easier as you do more.
Any one would be happy with a model finished to this quality running on their layout.
Well done again.

This will give me something to work to when I start buildong my layout. The colours and textures are great.

I always liked the J class. Nice model,
-
Very interesting, Thankyou.
It is very interesting it gets the old grey cells working. I will be honest I willbepleased to get it out of my cupboard.
-
I looks the part, I cant wait for the next section to be started.
-
Thanks, I feel now that I am getting somewhere in the right direction.

It is coming on nicely. I have always fancied a rake of the SR bogie hoppers. Think I will have to save up.
Those strengthening ribs must be a nightmare to do.

Hi Rob
Yes I filed the 3/4 of the top and aboout 1/4 to 1/3 of the side away. I have also used the bearing with the longest bit to the outside. This was to give the beam a larger bit to rest on, and also takes up a lot side play on the drivers. The beam is from a piece of 0.8mm.
I just hope it will work OK with the most loading on the leading wheel.

Mikkel, Ithought the ones at Barry were Better. Yes it is one of those (as a builder I havevseen it all too often) where an error is compounded by another in the vain attemp to hide the first. I think last time I had it on the bench I had my rose tinted glasses instead of my reading ones. I thought I could just get away with cosmetics. But at least this time I hope it will be sitting on sound foundations. Next problem is the coupling rods, they have been made solid as one has a broken joint. Where would we be without any challenges:-S
Matthew, Thank you. Iwas was pleased with them too, I wanted them to beas descrete as possible. They just need tweking on the front horns as they catch a little. But that is easy to do. Attaching the cylinders won't be so easy, that willcome soon thought.

They do not look bad as a set. Getting part done stuff of of ebay is always a good challange. I have not failed with one yet. It is a cheap way of stocking your layout.

Mikkel,
I hope it will not be to long in the making, I still have some dismantaling to do. I have made a start getting the cast valve gear to look someting other than rough. One coupling rodd needs to be sort out at the pivot.
Matthew,
I am hoping that too. I need to get my head into gear and get building instead of taking to bits. As I find this to be a little depressing.

I scratch built an Ivatt 4MT in 4mm thirty years ago, was hard to motor as there were none of the lovely gearboxes about. The 2MT I am doing does not look to badnot one for a beginer though. I have a GWR mogul that I have done a little on from College, and it has been a real treat to build so far. Iam OK anyway I have no hair left to lose.
I just want to get it clean for building. Here it gets so annoying that the brass won't stay clean from one session to another. Mind you it is rainy season here so there is 80 to 90% humidity at the moment.

Yes it is a hollow casting so I drilled through and there is a large blob of solder inside.
I have just found out I have it wrong there is another casting to add at the front with another set of pipes coming out.
