Outside of RMweb I was having huge issues with the Adblocker plugin restricting all kinds of web based functionality. I've replaced the Adblocker plugin with a different one, life has returned to normal. I suggest anyone that is finding Adblocker is causing issues should find an alternative. I'm now using Total Adblock. Steve

Positioning of platform furniture and signals
55020 replied to Phil R's topic in UK Prototype Questions
The following link is a great resource and does provide answers for some of the questions asked. How far apart: "The lantern is intended for a mounting height of about 13 ft. and a spacing of 40 ft." Which orientation: "It is recommended that on the single platforms the lanterns are mounted parallel with the track, and those on island platforms at right angles to it. The light distribution is such that both methods of mounting provide very even illumination, averaging about 1 lumen per sq ft over the whole platform area. By arranging the lanterns on the island platforms at right angles to the direction of travel of the trains, it is easier for passengers to read the names on the lanterns as they pass." http://www.simoncornwell.com/lighting/manufact/gec/cat/cat1957-21/lanterns.htm Steve -
Class 37, by Accurascale
55020 replied to Accurascale Fran's topic in Accurascale / Irish Railway Models
Remapping is easy to facilitate. I'd post CVs myself, but don't have access to a model yet. Hopefully my Scottish 37 will be heading this way soon. Steve -
That'll explain why I have an order from 2018 for a Scottish Class 24 that hasn't been fulfilled yet 🤣

Class 37, by Accurascale

The working fans are a bit too much of a gimmick for me. I'd rather stick to a fantastic looking and sounding model at a price point I am happy to pay. Steve -

British Railway Modelling Awards - 2022 Results
55020 replied to AY Mod's topic in Modelling musings & miscellany
Given only 4% voted for the model I can't reach the same conclusion. It was even beaten by KR's Fell. A first class, high quality Class 45 would have been up there challenging the top 3. -
Stuart, I don't have any knowledge of the the decoder tester you have, so offering any specific advice would be nothing but a guess. However it doesn't sound good (!!) regarding the health of your DP1 V5. ESU are good at providing warranty support and will generally fix or replace defective decoders at no charge. I used to go directly to ESU in Germany, but I suspect the customs border may now generate issues. Perhaps others might be able to provide some info about the post-Brexit options? Your best bet initially would be to contact South West Digital, who are the UK distributors. I not had much success in getting them to respond to emails in the past, but give it a go. However you might be better off calling them. Finally, I've just spotted you're in Shetland. I've spent many many days working out of Sumburgh over the last 25 years, so know the islands well. I have a ESU decoder testor and Lokprogrammer, so wonder if you might want to get the decoder to me in Aberdeen. I can easily arrange for it to be hand carried to/from Sumburgh if you'd be happy to consider this. Steve

Changing from iTrain to Train controller with occupancy issue!

I was going to respond with the same message, but thought "I'll leave Iain to ask". 😉 -
Nigel, ahh yes I didn't pick up on the reference to V5s in Stuart's original post. And then we throw in the "full fat V5" or "V5 DCC" just to complicate things a little bit more. In order to keep things simple I do think the first thing we need to eliminate is the Railcom feedback (subtract 8), as this is obviously enabled at the moment. Keeping the other bits set as is, this would result in the following CV29 values being written: DP1 & 8F CV29 = 23 Cl.40 CV29 = 4 Stuart, maybe try the Class 40 first (a V4?). Adjust CV29 as above, write and read the decoder, then power down and back up again as Nigel suggests and read one more time. Hopefully CV29 still reads as 4. If it does, go ahead and see if you can adjust the address using the same power down/up cycle. Steve

Stuart, the Class 40 value is a little odd as it doesn't have speed steps 28/128 enabled i.e. it is set to only have 14 speed steps. Anyway your problem isn't the short/long address issue I hinted at, as all three are set up for short addresses. All three are also set up for Railcom, which can sometimes have odd effects. That would be my first suggested change, just turn it off. Let's take CV29 back to it's default setting of 6 (which gives 28/128 speed steps and DC analogue control, short address, Railcom off)) Write the change, read the CV to make sure the change has taken effect, then try changing the loco address. Dave F's photos - ongoing - more added each day

01002 by any chance? -
I think this might be due to the way ESU handle codes less than 128, in that you have to set the decoder to accept "short addresses" only. Activate this by changing CV29. However it is only the 5th bit of CV29 that needs to be set to 0. DO NOT set CV29 to zero! If you are using software like LokProgrammer to change your decoder settings, this is easy. Just tick the box that says "use short address". If you are manually writing CVs, let me know what CV29 currently is for one of the decoders you are struggling with and I will work out the amended value for you. You should then be able to update the decoder address to say 77 by setting CV1 = 77.

Perhaps the Scottish Gov't app couldn't be used as the users address was not in Scotland. The reverse situation existed in that I couldn't enrol in the English (& Welsh?) app as my address was outside the required area. It was of course all driven by crazy politics, which is the way of the world ATM sadly.

You can't go wrong with a bit of Bif 😉

And of course when it comes to pulling together a sound project, that is the key element that I think is being overlooked in this conversation. These sound recordings are incredibly complex and need to capture a large variety of sequences, from start to tickover at idle, to then a number of different throttle notch positions, etc, etc. The loco the engine is located in will define the sound as much as the engine itself, mainly due to exhaust size, shape and location. It's also why a sound bite on an ancient video will not offer anything useable for creating a sound project.

@ColinRae Is the George Square departure point the same as in previous years i.e. near to Greggs? Google maps doesn't show anything for Waxy's other than a pub on West George Street.

I suspect those that have an irregular selling history are getting the £1 fee offer. I haven't sold on eBay for a while, and I regularly receive the £1 selling fee email. This morning it was "no more than £1". Steve

Accurascale Class 55 Deltic - 4mm scale
55020 replied to Andy Y's topic in Accurascale / Irish Railway Models
Mick, yeah the principal to remap any of the functions is the same. It's also easy to introduce additional features, such as cab lights that auto turn off when the loco moves, a horn to sound, etc. The ESU decoders are extremely flexible (other decoders are available 😉), and the LokProgrammer software makes it easy to experiment and to accomplish any changes.
