  1. I love Reliants and caravans. Bring back Tiff Needell and Quentin Wilson, the Top Gear dream team. (One part of the above sentence is true - guess which one.)
  2. Thanks for posting that Pete, the Beeb had a tiny article buried away when I hunted for it. First order of business today will be to get in touch with my friends in Backnang, Murrhardt, Schwabisch Hall and Gaildorf, make sure they (and their families in the local area) are all ok. There are some beautiful places around there, very much enjoyed exploring when we've been there. Weather here would be great for kite flying, it you could feel your fingers. Grey, coooold and windy. Bus to Mum's at about ten, so I hope I can get to the bus stop without being blown away. Thoughts to the ailing. May all your gardening tools break long before lunch, thereby preventing too much hard work.
  3. Grey cool morning here in the valley of the Sheaf. Hopefully it will burn off and brighten up later for various bank holiday events to take place. Nothing exciting here today (I hope). Think I shall take a slow stroll this morning, arriving back in time for cricket at 11. If not the (redesigned and ever more annoyingly more complicated to use) BBC Sports app will be fought with (the only time my mobile phone gets used!). Let's do it to them, before the do it to us ...
  4. Elvis Mrs HB has left the building. My ears are now ringing from the excited grandkids quietly waiting for their ride to the day out to arrive. A quiet day is now being contemplated. The bacon is waiting in the kitchen, the kettle is on and I'm just about to put a new set of strings on the old twangstick. The valves will be warmed up around 11, any neighbours wishing to sleep after that may be disappointed. Of course, I shall be listeneing to the test match, so I can't really make too much noise. An old pal said he'd drop round this afters with his latest new guitar, but he won't tell me what it is. Hopefully SWMBO won't be back earlier than expected, or your humble correspondent may be busking outside WHS tomorrow and sleeping in a cardboard box behind MacDonkeyburgers tonight. Thoughts to all ailing.
  5. Last time a venture of this nature was undertaken a fella called Hadrian was in charge. All together now : The lunatic is on the grass. The lunatic is on the grass. Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs. Got to keep the loonies on the path.
  6. Glorious sunshine and warm here in the valley of the Sheaf. Abbeydale should be glorious if this weather sticks for the day. I think today is a day of rest. Mrs HB will no doubt be making preparations for tomorrow, when she's off to Bolsover Castle with the grandkids to see the Knights beat the living whatsits out of each other. I shall take advantage of the (hopefully) resulting peace and quiet to listen to the test match and get some 'granddad' things done, including catching up on last weeks Moto GP which I still haven't managed to watch. Test match and F1 qualifying of course. Some small bits of plastic in the cupboard neeed gluing and may make something railway related. Thoughts to sick, injured and missing friends. Have a good one, and whatever you're doing today, give it some welly.
  7. Andy B you really need to find yourself a hobby. Knitting or fishing, maybe even ...
  8. And so, the day that should be Friday is about to become Monday, which in turn will become Sunday which will make tomorrow Tuesday and as of yesterday I am again, dazed and confused. Welcome to the interesting little world of HB and the Bank Holiday Mum's pension arrangements. Hopefully the post office stiff staff will be able to work out how to log into their own system this morning and I will be able to get to my bus in time (unlike last week ) So today I shall be mainly hoping that the glorious sun of the Roker Riviera will spread inland and allow a full day of play in the second test. :sungum: Thoughts to all those sick, recovering and those enduring far more than their fair bl**dy share.
  9. Thank you Ellie at EE. You have completely shattered my faith in human nature. Not only did you deal with my call within 1 hour as promised, you rang me back when you said you would - twice. Rang EE to moan about my number not being transferred. Got straight thorough, no 'music'! She said it would be done in an hour and she'd ring me to tell me when to reboot the phone. 45 minutes later I got the call. Rebooted and wondered if it would work for about 30 seconds when she rang again to confirm everything was ok. Now I need a brew to get over the shock!
  10. And I hollered "Don't look Ethel!!"

  11. Just caught up from yesterday, my problems are so trivial. Thoughts to Dave and Is. Eyes feel like sandpaper this morning after visit to the optician yesterday. The machine reported higher than normal and worrying pressures. Manual testing showed that the machine was 'over enthusiastic' and everything was normal after all, much to my relief. Did I ever mention ... Money back from Maplins no problem. Phone working on a 'temporary number' but still b****y useless as the number still hasn't transferred. Meanwhile I realised that it's time to put the sprouts on for Boxing Day...
  12. (Half-inched) Izal was employed on my teenage layout to make scenery. Shiny hills. Coated with Resin W it was stronger than the wood itself.
  13. Thanks Tony, but it's Windows 7. This just about covers it: E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed 'im to the perch 'e'd be pushing up the daisies! 'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig! 'E's kicked the bucket, 'e's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!! THIS IS AN EX-USB INTERFACE!! *coughs*
  14. All went incredibly well on my tour of Crystal Peaks yesterday. Nabbed the last USB interface from Maplins. Got a new SIM for me phone and made an appointment for next Wednesday at the opticians. Where to start ... Got home quite happy then sat down to put the opticians appointment in my diary. It's not for next week, it's for today. Played with USB interface for about 5 hours to no avail, the damned thing doesn't work. No amount of drivers or cajoling would make anything happen. And as of this morning my number still hasn't transferred to the new SIM making my phone, for the present, absolutely useless. Mum can't ring me on it and if I ring her the call blocker will treat me just like a nuisance caller and she won't answer. So, today I shall be going back to return one USB interface, give the folks at the EE shop a piece of my mind and have my eyes tested, not neccesarily in that order. Mrs HB says I live a charmed life. <expletive deleted> It's a good job I don't take little things like this seriously or to heart. I think that when I've done today I may call at the local hostelry for a pint of their finest falling down water on the way home. Thoughts to all those ailing.
  15. Off to the Creeks of Pistol in a bit. Visit to EE shop and Specsavers. Also up to the Drake House retail park as Maplins are showing a USB interface at £19.99 reduced from 39.99 and just one in stock, so I shall be riding the Supertram with fingers crossed. Mrs HB has already departed to her Mum's, leaving the usual list of "While I'm out"s which may or may not be attended to, I don't feel like being a really useful engine today. Thoughts to all sick, injured, recovering and missing.

  18. Grey and drizzly down here too Baz. It's supposed to be clearing up for a few hours from 10 o'clockish, so a few hours of belting leather with willow may occur. Hope the test can get gooing too, it was tiring just istening to it yesterday though. MiL having trouble with her central heating, 'Er indoors has gone to see if it's mechanical or operator error. It's not easy dealing with the old bat, she's been doolally all the years I've known her, but now she's showing signs of real oldtimers. I'm hoping very much not to be needed. It gets too intense. Supplies checked, as Granddaughter will be arriving soon and has already decided that Granddad will be helping her to make pancakes for her dinner, Hopefully no Grandads will be injured in the process. Noted from another forum that Alan Young who played WILLBUURRR!! in Mr Ed died yesterday. 96 years old. TBH I thought he'd gone years ago. Brought back somehilldhood memories watching clips. Thoughts to those ailing. Illegitimi non carborundum as we say around here. Have a good one.

Take a couple of Ibuprofen before your haircut - that'll stop it hurting! :-)

  20. Just waved Mrs HB and grandson off, they're taking advantage of the nice weather to visit the haminals at Graves Park. I shall be using the peace and quiet to good effect and joining Aggers and the TMS team at Headingly in spirit if not in person. Thoughts as always with those who need them, especially Dave and Is. Just a few "While we're out"s to do ...
  21. My great granddad was a waller. Walls he built 100 years ago are still there. When Charlie built something it stayed built.
  22. Happy Birthday Sherry. Chrisf thanks for reminding me, I must make an appointment with the optician today, I keep forgetting t do it. Your lucky fiver should have provided quite a night on Solly Street. As I recall, the Wards was about 18p a pint back then so a good night out, A cheggyburger over at Greasy Vera's probably capped it off? Last time I went in the Red House it was considerably posher than in the 70s. Played there with the band a few times in the early 2000s. Things to do, places to go, people to see. I just wish I could remember what, where and who. Thoughts to all sick, injured and missing.

  25. I used to eat three shredded wheat for y breakfast when I was a kid, then go back for another three. Haven't eaten one in years, since the taste changed. Peace seems to have broken out in the F1 thread. Happy days. Ed, sorry about the earworm I know how annoying they are. I've had Santo and Johnny's Sleepwalk going round and round for about a fortnight. I keep thinking it's gone, then ... Edited to add what I actually came to post: Window fixed - new hinges fitted. Management smiled (for about two minutes). Off now to move furniture back again.
