  1. And I didn't have too long to wait. Back home for the weekend - I work away a month at a time - and the second of my Rainbow Railways Class 90's was waiting for me. This time 90 021 Donald Malcolm. Both this and 90 024 are absolutely stunning.
  2. We had this one visit us the other day. If Anyone wants to do a 37/9 then they have my money 🤩
  3. Yup. My fleet is ready for an upgrade. If Bachmann and Accurascale both start releasing the models I'm after, this is going to get pretty expensive.
  4. Oh exciting 😀 Like others, I think the market place will support both the A/S and Bachmann models. With just 2 versions available in this initial offering today, I do feel they rushed it forward, either to meet the DEMU launch or to be first to the market before the A/S version hits the shops. I guess Warley was too long to wait. Will come down to liveries and specific models as to which I'll buy.
  5. 5Q79 arrived at Landore this morning top & tailed with 37 901 & 37 800. Locos left as 0M57 but not before I took some pics.
  6. Care to share who or post a link to their website if they have one? Great layout by the way. My stomping ground as home is in Buckley although temp down in Swansea.
  7. Aargh, clashing with the South Wales Air Show. Decisions, decisions 🤔
  8. 97 303 'Dave Berry' looking pretty smart with its whitewall tyres. Seen here at Landore where it has been on UTU1 duties around South Wales.
  9. Having dipped into this thread last weekend, I am now the owner of a Rainbows 90 024. It's waiting for me when I get back home tomorrow for the weekend. My Hornby version, which has never seen a piece of track, will be going on eBay/Facebook in due course. I'm a collector of all things Malcolm, but passed on joining the Hornby club just to get their exclusive. I've lost all faith in Hornby and so will hope for either a Bachmann or failing that, Rainbow release of the new Donald.
  10. No Harburn Hobbies this year Their stand was usually my first stop as you came in the door.
  11. From Facebook (not my pic) Some f%$&£r has been at it last night
  12. So looking forward to this. Not sure if this will be my 50th anniversary visit to the Glasgow show, as it was either '72 or '73 as a young 4 or 5 year old that my mum took me up. Dad was exhibiting with Ayr mrg and its one of my earliest memories getting the train up from Ayr to go to the show.
  13. Agreed. Totally disenchanted with Hornby, not that I was much of a fan beforehand. Indeed, the only Hornby wagons I own, out of some 300+ are my 20 Drax wagons from the 2016 release. As for locos, just 7%, 12 out of 165, are Hornby with 5 each of Class 60 & 67 and 2 Class 87s. Admittedly, those 60s & 87s are really good models. I would have been in the market for a further 20 Drax wagons. But having made dozens of calls and finding that even the Tier 1 suppliers had only been allocated 8 of each, and were then restricting to just 1 per customer, I decided to give up the chase. There's a big box of Revolution Timber wagons just delivered that's awaiting me when I next get home. When I look at my rolling stock, it's been pretty much all Accurascale, Cavalex, Revolution over recent years while for locos it's been an obscene amount of Heljan McRats or Realtrack 156's. No matter how desperate, I'd never get drawn into paying full RRP at Hornby.com when I'd much rather buy local, as I'm passionate about supporting my local model shops and am fortunate that Widnes model centre and Trident Trains are close by to home. Seeing rumours here that H might up their production. I'll take a view at the time as to whether to buy. With working away from home and no real sizeable layout to run stuff on, everything's just sitting boxed up anyway so I dare say there'll be other announcements throughout the year that will sway my wallet instead.
  14. And don't worry if you've run out of number 4's on your transfer sheet or haven't mastered making a double arrow logo. (4)7 640 on the 11:30 Glasgow Central to Stranraer, leaving Ayr on 25/02/86. (my pic)
  15. Image shows the original Hattons release from 2016. I get that 500 seems the norm for a limited edition loco, i.e. the Bachmann Reps Editions, but for wagons, when most people would want 6, 8 or 10 or more to make a decent rake (budget and layout size dependent) then it seems pretty ridiculous. As for an earlier comment about building up demand etc, then again, I can't help but think Hornby have seriously misjudged. We're not talking Gucci Handbags or Prada shoes, where limited editions draw a frenzy with collectors paying ten-fold for the chance to own exclusivity. These are at the end of the day, just model railway wagons.
  16. Like others, I tried a number of model shops today to seek the Drax wagons. Feedback from all is that their allocation is sold out and they only had a few to start with. I just can't understand Hornby's business model of producing an item, but only making it available to a very few (Tier 1) retailers and even then, in such limited quantities that there's nowhere near enough to satisfy demand. Surely this just backfires on everyone?. Modellers left disappointed, stores taking the flack and Hornby letting everyone down. Obviously we've seen the announcement live yesterday thanks to RMWeb, but for those who'll learn of the new range via the monthly magazines, then to be hit with "it's all sold out" will just leave a bad taste. How can an item be sold out on the day of the announcement?. It's not like some supergroup selling out Wembley within 10 minutes of tickets going on sale. I'll just have to count myself lucky with the original Hornby Drax wagons I have (Hattons release) and the forthcoming Acurascale release.
  17. Got mine too. The blue (as preserved) is much darker than I thought, and is almost black and matt like in appearance. Not like the pictures above. Must need to be well lit to bring out that shine. Half thinking now I should have got the as-built with the lighter, more familiar Calley Blue. Anyway, it will only ever be sitting in a display case so overall I'm happy.
  18. Sorry to hear this sad news Mike. Thinking of you at this sad time. Mike
  19. If I were to sell mine along with my Harry Patch HST then I could probably pay off my mortgage!
  20. Oh, good news!. Hopefully with the withdrawal vinyls:
  21. I always enjoy the Warrington show which is a nice smaller show compared to Wigan which is normally a couple of weeks before. It was good to get out to see an exhibition this afternoon, my first since Model Rail Scotland last year. A good selection of layouts and agreed, the round Southern EMU layout for something so 'simple' was endlessly fascinating.
  22. 254 Cardiff Canton and 099 Merl Evans at Swansea Landore last night, prior to setting off on 3Q19 to Derby RTC.
  23. Still hoping that someone produces transfers for the Welsh 142/143's: The Journey is almost over for old trains / Mae taith yr hen trenau ar ben cyn bo hir The start of a new journey / Dechrau taith newydd These trains will terminate soon / Mae'r trenau yma'n dod i ben cyn bo hir
