I think we all feel that way, it took me several months to get the confidence to share anything of mine with the forum.

Practice makes perfect! Turning off this forum when you could be model making is my tip of the day. Th emost important thing is to make something, I see far too many people pontificating rather than doing.

Ill stick with it. I think i need to sort everything out and cut down the amount of projects i have down to minimum then maybe things wouldnt be so hectic

    3. marc smith

      marc smith

Hi Scott, we all have days like that...

If I'm frustrated with a project, I put it down and do something simple...

... something I know I'll enjoy - like weathering a few wagons etc

Stick to it matey - that's the key :)

  5. Do I bite the bullet and apply to go to university to become a teacher or not? If I do that mean being poor for 3 years :(

If you're not sure then consider other options like doing a normal degree. If you still want to teach after this then do a PGCE.

    3. PNEYorkshire

      PNEYorkshire

If you really want to do it then being poor is a worthy sacrifice. Spent the last 4 years being poor but at least it teaches you the real value of money!

    4. Revolution Mike

      Revolution Mike

Personally I would do a normal degree and a PGCE. I would also look at what subjects are shortage subjects (better grants/golden hellos etc). Ultimately you have to want to be a teacher - it is hard work, but rewarding if you can cope with it. (Don't believe myths that it is particularly poorly paid).

  6. Still cant make my mind up if I should have a go at doing some N gauge. But where to start??

Full length trains on even the smallest layout looks brilliant, Its a tad cheaper than OO (RTR at least) too. Do it, Do it, Do it, Do it, Do it, Do it, Do it, Do it, Do it, Do it, Do it, DO IT!

n gauge is GREAT, just got our son his first N layout - 7' long by 22 " wide and we have been running 30 wagon modern coal trains, 9 coach steam specials and full length HSTs on it today!! The ability to have a loop using 12" radius and have everything go around it makes massive possibilities in even the smallest of spaces. My exhibition layout has a full branch line terminus station, goods facilities and an engine shed in only 4' length, its called Polpendra and was i...

Find something you want to do that doesnt involve the government. Teachers commit suicide more often than most other professions.

      devondynosoar118

SWMBO says teaching is a calling, not a job. If you have to think about it too much then the massive cost of Uni may not be worth it.

Very good paul. Club is moving ahead well, we have taken over the basement which is going to house an o gauge layout.

    4. marc smith

      marc smith

Scenic Sidings are a good idea

Neil Rushby did an article on them sometime back

Personally, I like them because you model more of the landscape / surrounding scene

and they're easier on the eye IMHO - rather than bare wood...

Im not any help, but i often get fed-up and think why the heck do i do this to myself...but when you find an answer or alternative you'll be much happier! at the end of the day its a hobby that we all enjoy, but we're bound to get annoyed from time to time...good luck mate ;)

Try not to see it as one big job as it gets too much. Chop it down to smaller jobs and you'll sort it. Little victories etc..!

I can imagine the likes of Futers, Denny, Jenkinson, Beal, Ahern and many more asking something similar at your age. There's natural talent however old or young you are, there's also the talent that can only come with age and experience. Hang on in there - and keep the posts coming...
