If you have the drawings/data for the turnouts used by the railway you are modelling I would see it as much better to spend a bit of time with 'Templot' and set up a custom template to give exactly as you want it. Its practically as simple to build on a printed plan as in an expensive fast Tracks jig. Templot is customisable for every detail.

  6. But those of us who do model with buffer contact, eg in P4 and EM, are very thankful for the fad of providing sprung buffers on 00 models as it saves us a job on conversion, and aftermarket sprung buffers can be pricy and fiddly. So please don't ask them to stop fitting them.

  8. Taken from that link, IMHO, that has been the standard size at least since the late 1950s modernisation plan signalling schemes, only the high security featires are more recent. The LMR 60s resignalling versions mostly had a peaked roof or a slope to the back depending on the specific contractor. No level flat roofs as that would be asking for corrosion, roofs have to shed water. Versions with no doors at the back were used, eg for battery boxes but were not numerous.

  10. That's so close to S that it would make little or no difference. Might as well use S. There is at least some basic supplies and a society to help. http://www.s-scale.org.uk/main.htm It is significantly bigger than 4mm, even if 4.76mm may not look it at first sight. And 1:64 is convenient to work to.
  11. Those look to be 12 mm wheels, ie wagon wheels, when they should be 14 mm coach wheels. This will make the buffers and couplings sit low, which will not help. There should be no need to change the bogies, if the wheels are not rotating freely then DCC concepts do a nice tool for cleaning up the bearings. If the bogies are not turning freely then you need to look carefully to see where the problem is, there may be an obstruction somehere that can be removed.
  12. So disqualified but he was able to get his car out of the pound. Now he gets another 18 months added to the disqualification but his car only impounded for 28 days. Doesn't hang together. Expect another offence in a month's time.
  13. E2001 was primarily used for traing loco drivers, the Clacton branch didn't need any. As soon as a few AL1-5s had been commissioned there was no more need for it as the training could be done with the real things.

  16. Classes AL1 - AL5 used the Styal line for commissioning tests in that period, working out of Longsight. I don't think the line was suitable for particularly high speed testing and I never heard of Deltics being involved. I had a couple of weeks at Longsight as a vacation student from Uni and went out on a few test runs but nothing particularly fast. One was trying to get the ammeters up to the redline and our test train wasn't heavy enough so we were using the handbrake to increase the load, had to stop when the smoke and smell coming through the cab floor suggested the brakes were about to catch fire.

  19. Ah, but when the BBC wheeled out Lord Berkely on yesterday's morning news he was absolutety positive that cancelling HS2 would allow all the money to be spent on Liverpool - Leeds and Birmingham - Derby which are in much greater need of the time saving.

  21. Actually that link goes to, ie Not a Signal Box diagram, but may have been drawn from it since it was drawn by John Hinson himself. And yes you can make a good stab at drawing up a box diagram from the signal plan if you study others to pick up the style you want.
  22. My recollection is that Wesa was not 12 mm gauge but 13 mm, I don't recall the scale but more likely 1:100 than 1:130. Wikipedia here under historical well down the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_rail_transport_modelling_scale_standards gives the scale as 1:110 for early production and 1:100 for later production but google images would suggest that scale accuracy was not really a feature.
  23. It might help you to read this topic so you can draw better diagrams showing track and signalling details.
  24. Both you and I have clearly said that the GF would only controthe run round points and trap so this is not an issue.l The usual operation at such a station would be for the goods to arrive in the platform, run round, then shunt from there.
