  1. I do t think they’ll be much loss of FB sales and those on a strict budget won’t want to spend £30 on a point. What I think it will do is stimulate the market like the Dapol 08 seems to have done for O gauge. I wasn’t really happy with the look of peco FB, so havent really made any new layouts for a few years.... This will stimulate me into making a new plank to fit the point work really.
  2. My wife has some tropical fish.... For me my main interest lies in Rudd’s, clams, turbots......
  3. They look more expensive than model chuffers !
  4. Yes, I agree, those glazing clips are a pain in the butt. I had to return the 47001 I had....and he said they were all similar. Must get round to rebuilding 47078 after its fall, I’ve got all the bits from Bachmann
  5. Have any trouble taking the body off? I had one of these and the weathering had stuck the body to chassis. When I got it off it took the little yellow front step off as well
  6. A 66 would be a bit slow on the penzance , tops out at 75 I think
  7. I wonder how many of these will be used, in er, slightly unsuitable diesel applications , That's certainly the road I'm going down. I wouldn't take the mick for mainline but for branch and sidings I reckon I'll get away with it.
  8. The Hornby 08/9 is a great model, I had one. The only issue for me is that it's " overdetailed " with too many added little bits that I kept knocking off. I now have a Bachmann 08 which is pretty good , as all the more recent ones are and very robust in comparison
  9. really like the backstory Adrian, Who wouldn't like to hang out that window ?!
  10. More tinkering with 37s I'm afraid ... Transrail liveried 043 has been stripped of the TR logos and renumbered as 012. This was more appropriate to the Home Counties in 1996. In early 96 it kept its BR arrows until EWS pulled them off all its stock. I've found a couple I have from Bachmann. The 37 ones look a bit malnourished compared with the one from a parcels 47... not sure if they were actually supposed to be different/ bigger ? Finally the ghost train continues to take shape..... white primer in place and I've made an effort in recreating the roof vents. This was a right mare - I got some etched ones from shawplan but they were far to small and fiddly for me to sort , tried filler blobs , that didn't work. And finally white plastic strip sanded down. They are not quite the same shape but close enough for me. I've got the flush noses so need to sort the fit,net of those.....and then I'll be ready to try my airbrush once I've sourced the Phoenix paints for loadhaul......can't quite justify the courier cost for two tinlets at present....is there anywhere near swindon that sells them ??
  11. Those are the sexiest things to ever come out the Peco factory. I wasn't gonna build a new plank for a year but I'm sorely tempted
  12. Hmmmm, total of five posts and he lobs this little Hand grenade in....
  13. Look forward to what you do with the 37, Always thought it was dire they left the cowls on !
  14. Definitely sold to GBRF according to " modern railways "
  15. Well that's frustrating ! I'm just about to get my airbrush going for the first time - they do seem like a massive PITA though
  16. Well, I think batch production in China encourages me to hoard stuff for the future. I've got enough stock for a china clay plank and used to have enough for a blue one too.....I like the thrill of the purchase and don't want to be paying lots on eBay in the future. But this had to stop - I can't afford draws of stuff gathering dust for years. I'm prioritising my favoured 1995-2000 time frame. But even then I only have a6' scenic section - do I need 7 class 37s? No, of course not. I want 20.... I'm part collector, part modeller, part tinkerer. In fact the part I get the most out if these days is rdnumbering and personalising stock.
  17. Hi, Yes, what I meant was all the 33/73/37s based there that I've seen photos of ( such as the hellfire 37167) but there wasn't any local sidings for them to work out of that I can tell ? Lots of infrastructure trains passing that way, but none originating there ?
  18. Always glad to see this epic project progressing again. I've taken more interest in the London side of , what was " mainline " freight. Looking at SL, I can't work out why it had a lot of infrastructure machines in the period , as it would appear the nearest yards used for trips were at Stratford, hoo junction, three bridges and tonbridge ? The actual loco shed would make an interesting model and the scenic breaks in that urban environment would be fairly easy....hmmmm....layout idea 11233....
  19. I doubt they'll be any " amendments ". Simply put those who want 100 % will build their own, those who just want a step change over the existing peco stuff will buy these. I'm in the second category.
  20. Modern image - anything not requiring coal to move......
  21. No steam ? Great ! Should have gone ( runs for cover ) In another thread I was bemoaning warley as it appears there are only 2 DE layouts in 4mm out of the 90 going....
  22. What about the slurry loading thingy at par docks? Not in use now but still there and probably easy to model, just being a frame and pipe
