  1. 90% proof and decanted through a coffee filter into a Kilner jar afterwards. Mike.
  2. Bear in mind the real thing didn't weather itself in 20 minutes, it took years! Mike.
  3. Oh heck, is this the slippery slope to sandals and quinoa? Mine are going in the bin! Mike.
  4. Avert your gaze those of you of a nervous disposition, I use 90% proof IPA in my ultrasonic cleaner, when warmed up it shifts most things that the soak in cold IPA in a spaghetti Kilner jar (as above) doesn't, also very good for cleaning up etched kits as you go along soldering. Mike.
  5. I use the outers, with the plastic bits junked, as roundtuit/ongoing project storage boxes, very kind of them to provide different sized boxes! Mike.
  6. Start at the very beginning, get some scrap etch or some brass of some variety and get the feel of how to "stick" things together with an iron. Mike.
  7. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/193879913093? Are you aware of these and the associated separately available links? Mike.
  8. Talking of older models, I still reckon you'd have to go a long way to beat John Philips' upgrading of the venerable Triang Brush 2, in, if memory serves, a 1970's MRC. Mike.
  9. I use various manufacturers olive drab/khaki/camouflage from their military ranges, there are a fair few to go at. Mike.
  10. "Mistry previously pleaded guilty to two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and one count of causing grievous bodily harm with intent in December last year, before being sentenced to four years and 10 months in prison at Aylesbury Crown Court, last week. He was also disqualified from driving for four years and 10 months and will need to take an extended re-test before getting his licence back." Other than the blindingly obvious fact that he won't be able to drive whilst in prison, It's hardly a severe motoring penalty, a life ban for somebody psychologically incapable of driving with a sensible thought plan would be more relevant. Mike.
  11. Haven't BR and it's inheritants got the patents and copyrights on what we model, shouldn't we all be applying to them?!! Especially when you consider the licencing hoops the manufacturers have to jump through to copy a livery. Mike.
  12. Yer big softy!!! Wait until you've bent them up from brass wire and then fitted them to a Parkside kit!! Mike.
  13. It's tedious for sure, and uses up valuable modelling time, I for one put myself through the pain of safety loops purely for cosmetic purposes as they can be seen, mine will never be as good as Bachmanns but I'm not ditching all my model Palvans just because there's a new kid on the block. I've made jigs to assist in the various shapes and sizes required but I'd be over the moon if pre bent ones were made available by somebody with the wherewithall to do it, until then I shall continue with my suffering! Mike.
  14. And look how he finished up, stark b*ll*ck naked!! Mike.
  15. What's wrong with that, is it going to get thrown away because of the arrival of the Bachmann version?, if so, throw it my way! Mike.
  16. It doesn't matter if you are crap at building kits, enjoying building kits is the general idea isn't it? Most of can't build a kit to the standard of a RTR model, but, without seeing it I can guarantee the Bachmann underframe will be suspect in a few places. I hope we're not turning into a nation of shake the box modellers. Mike.
  17. If we are outlawing copies then there is going to be an a large cloud of smoke over the UK from burning inglenooks! Mike.
  18. Another nail in the coffin of kit building. Mike.
  19. Depends, do you mean the green one with a shell or the one conveniently laid on his back in the Sistine chapel so you can measure him! Oh, and it's Michelangelo. Mike.
  20. The spurious side panels have been removed, you can tell by the presence of the step underneath the number, and although it's not the best picture I have replaced the missing corner support coach bolt heads with rivet transfers. Mike.
  21. With my vans now on the high seas/even higher sky en route to me, Spanish duties now paid!, I've been doing a bit of research. Based on the 2 provisos that a), I haven't read all the thread, (slapped wrists), and b), I'm no expert on SR brakegear variations, assuming there are supposed to be full brake yokes not just a connecting bar between the brakeshoes, are there no brake yoke safety loops on this mechanism, or are they in the accessory packet? Mike.
  22. There's no cure for stupid. Mike.
  23. Is 1mm or 1.2mm suitable?, might be easier to get hold of. Mike.
