I find it important to know before I get too far into a project. When I was planning my first 3DP model I uploaded a shelled out box (15 minutes work) to check the price before I committed hours to the project.

Those green engined ones would look good.
-
I wondered whether they fitted the same criteria as engineering stock. There was a discussion that they were actually grey!
I still wouldn't paint it black.
-
Card mock ups. There's a great idea. If you pasted the whole thing in shellac once you finished you wouldn't need an etch?
-
Are you sure they were black?

Is Lambourn DC then?
Yes. I believe the wiring has been 'warmed through' to maintain reliability in the last three decades but it remains DC.
If you mean DCC then no.
-
I'll second what Jerry said. If it has some couplings by then we could put it to work on Lambourn if you'd like?
-
A van like this with sheet metal sides is probably about the hardest thing to print because any warping or stepping is immediately obvious.
Agreed.
I'm still trying to make up my mind if it is good enough or not.
I'm still undecided too. Not yet is still my current stance.
Have you painted it yet? How did it come out?
The answer to this one is also not yet. It does have a roof though so I must have done some modelling since March!
-
What do you need to know from Atkins? There's at least one copy here and I am capable of reading information for models later than the mid 1920's but not great at retaining details later.
-
I agree

If using the full range of the servo then that won't be an issue.
-
You've spent some time digesting Pannier 17? I must remember to come back here when I get a little further along with my 28xx.

I know that problem because I started building a metro once. (I got about as far as you have.) It was halted abruptly when I realised that I had produced a body with small tanks and a 'later' cab as a result of working from several different drawings. The problem: I was trying to build a 455 class engine in early 1920s guise! There isn't much space for error with that boiler and I had planned to 'solve' the motor problem by building the body such that the front section slid forwards for removal, rather than lifting upwards, and the bunker/cab floor attached separately. This to allow the motor to be attached semi permanently to the chassis. It was a shame that the cab is the wrong one because I got the side sheets wrapping around and up the arc of the roof really well too.

Will significant misalignment of a peg and bar drive be noticeable as a variable velocity within each revolution at the wheels?

That young gentleman in the second picture looks very happy. How old is he now and what impact has he had on modelling progress?

Thanks Ian, glad you like it! I'll get my Dremmel out and modify the finial ball, but only if you do the same for the signals on Modbury! :-)
DaveI'm more disappointed that it isn't lit (sorry). I pondered the open finial in 2mm for a while and decided that not only were they going to be difficult to produce they would be incredibly fragile and opted for producing a finial from a dressmakers pin (~0.6mm diameter) with a 1mm brass ball fitted into a centre drilled hole in the brass post. Solid and virtually to scale size (albeit lacking in minute detail, which I hope to imply by creative painting)

If I put them any further apart my saddle tank would fall down the middle :-)
Mr Brunel wouldn't approve of your saddle tank either then?

I agree with Jerry, apart from the seeing them on Saturday bit

"You're dangerous with power tools" said the person who used a slitting disc in his lathe to make track jigs and then wrote about it on his blog in a similar fashion.
If you are going to insist on doing things like this please please please make sure the work is adequately restrained! I do not mean with your hands either!
-
I wouldn't use them out of choice, especially not with hand built track. There are ways to dampen and accomodate the aggressive thumping motion of this type (solenoid) of actuator.
-
At least your tags are still non-conformist.
-
Unfortunately not... Doesn't stop me from starting even more things though.
Me neither
I might have to use the 45xx instead. Plans are afoot for the improvement of the 14xx, that will hopefully mean that it will be able to haul one coach with a reasonable degree of control.
Your lot have a thing for motorised coaches so you should be okay.

I've got a lot of unpainted or otherwise unfinished stock too. There aren't any prizes.

I have the opposite problem. I buy a pack of the small hair grips (very useful for holding things) and have to split the pack!
You can buy some really fine abrasive nail sticks usually called buffers rather than files. Both Boots and Superdrug have them (and I'm sure many others).
