  1. A southern pride mk1 diagram 109 post office kit for £25 Inc postage, the Bachmann ones are way out of my price range and the last one I saw on eBay went for over £50. Very pleased.
  2. Does anyone have a pack of these lying unused or built up please?
  3. I won three unmade kitmaster pullman coaches for £80 including postage, a bit more than I would have liked but still reasonably happy.
  4. There are usually a selection of kirk kits on ebay, so that might be an option for obtaining some more. I managed to buy the gresley buffet carriages from eBay but did have to wait until I found some at a decent price.
  5. Does anyone know of a South Wales based one still in black in the late 1960s?
  6. I picked up a craftsman Models 1f kit with wheels for less than £40, not 100% sure it's complete but look like it is from the photos. Even if there is the odd bit missing I'm still quite pleased to have one.
  7. I picked up 4 airfix brake van kits for £20, quite pleased.
  8. Interesting, so possibly some of the gwr ones could be added to a rake?
  9. Thank you, so basically I can buy any of the cambrian kits for the unfitted versions.
  10. Would wagons with these bogies have been restricted to the former lner area or under british railways would they be used wherever they wanted? Just thinking about getting a few of the cambrian kits and as I am interested in the south Wales area I thought I'd ask the question.
  11. Well as I type this, my partner is having our dog of 19 years put down, old age, cancer and the heat is proving to much for him, having to hydrate him by squirting water via a syringe because he can't swallow is no way for him to live and suffer. R. I. P Scamp.
  12. I too had a relationship like that and I only stayed because of her son who was a lovely kid but his dad wasn't interested in him and his mum because of her depression could be really horrible to him. In the end I had to walk away because I was starting to doubt my own sanity and the relationship was becoming extremely volatile, it was the best decision I have ever made, after a few years I met my current partner who helped me get through university and now have two lovely children I don't get much modelling time but my life is 100% better than my time with the ex. Don't be afraid to start again it might be the best move you ever make.
  13. As a civil engineer student all I can say is, it's a minefield due to many factors. If your layout is based in or on a particular area I would suggest that you spend some time looking at similar structures in that locality and base your model on those. For example on the Meltham branchline in West Yorkshire at one location the base of the retaining wall is supposed to be around 14feet thick due to the type of material been held back(shale if I remember correctly) I have walked the section described but cannot remember and buttresses.
  14. I bought a very badly triang blue pullman painted in virgin colours.
  15. I saw someone paid £150 for a crownline kit for an 08 shunter chassis.
  16. Does anyone have one of these sitting in a cupboard they'd be willing to sell?
  17. Try a polyurethane glue, it is incredibly strong. It does foam slightly so anything getting glued together would need to be weighted down.
  18. I think the Livery shown above, looks really good on the class 59's.
  19. I certainly agree with you on the "value" of rtr, it's just that I cannot justify it to myself or my family. My partner understands the creative aspect of the hobby and can see the merit in spending money on a kit to build, but not on an item already built. I keep looking at the kitbuilt locomotives shown on here by yourself and other contributers and I have been very tempted by some bargains on eBay.
  20. I can fully understand this comment. My interest is south wales in the late 60's and early 70's, I worked out in need classes 14, 25, 31, 35, 37, 45/6, 47, 52, 53 along with a d600 warship and a few shunters to have a reasonable selection. Class 14 are alexander models kits bought on ebay. Class 25 Hornby with craftsman conversion for later body style. 31, airfix with the new Hornby class 31 mechanism. Class 35, Heljan with a price limit of £70. Class 37, Bachmann simply because the lima and Hornby are not as good. Class 45/6 the early Bachmann peak with can motor and replica bodies. Class 47, combination of Hornby and lima with Heljan mechanisms. Class 52, lima, Class 53, silver fox with Hornby class 31 mechanism. D600 I have an MTK kit for that! I have a triang blue pullman to construct in to a western pullman, my mk1 coaches will be kitmaster, mk2 lima with southern pride conversion kits to turn them into mk2a's and freight stock is either old Hornby models or kits. Luckily I bought what I wanted a few years ago and I am slowly starting to work through bits after making mistakes trying to run before I can walk. Would I be able to buy a Fleet of brand new models? Not a chance but thankfully the people who can provide rich pickings if you are careful. What has this got to do with Tony's East Coast masterpiece? Nothing, but I really admire the skills shown on here.
