I can fully understand this comment.
My interest is south wales in the late 60's and early 70's, I worked out in need classes 14, 25, 31, 35, 37, 45/6, 47, 52, 53 along with a d600 warship and a few shunters to have a reasonable selection.
Class 14 are alexander models kits bought on ebay.
Class 25 Hornby with craftsman conversion for later body style.
31, airfix with the new Hornby class 31 mechanism.
Class 35, Heljan with a price limit of £70.
Class 37, Bachmann simply because the lima and Hornby are not as good.
Class 45/6 the early Bachmann peak with can motor and replica bodies.
Class 47, combination of Hornby and lima with Heljan mechanisms.
Class 52, lima,
Class 53, silver fox with Hornby class 31 mechanism.
D600 I have an MTK kit for that!
I have a triang blue pullman to construct in to a western pullman, my mk1 coaches will be kitmaster, mk2 lima with southern pride conversion kits to turn them into mk2a's and freight stock is either old Hornby models or kits.
Luckily I bought what I wanted a few years ago and I am slowly starting to work through bits after making mistakes trying to run before I can walk. Would I be able to buy a Fleet of brand new models? Not a chance but thankfully the people who can provide rich pickings if you are careful.
What has this got to do with Tony's East Coast masterpiece? Nothing, but I really admire the skills shown on here.
