  1. I know what you are saying, but EMUs have compressors, traction motors and other equipment underfloor which all make noise A 12 car articulated unit is ridiculous a fault on one vehicle renders the whole 12 set as a failure, not that depots split four car units these days.
  2. I know mk111s are not new but if you strip them right back to a shell and rebuild it's not going to affect reliability, 88s would be good as at least when there is problems with the overhead at least they can plod on or even divert via Cambridge or Bury The DVT could as was originally proposed by ONE rebuilt with some passenger accommodation, bikes also need to be catered for OK it may not be able to cram as many passengers as some EMU but a lot more flexible and comfortable to travel in
  3. As I stated before I don't think the new trains should be built until there is capacity. The mkllls could be rebuilt at Doncaster, brush, Wolverton and Kilmarnock thus helping those companies. I know the loco would possibly be Spanish but he ho . Those new trains look about as mainline as a 142. The transpennine contract is more than short term by the way
  4. So the best way to safeguard more jobs is to rebuild the mkllls and replace in 8 to 10 years time
  5. Sorry I was just thinking about the 68 factory. The thing with cloe Smith was that she was trying to make out she had sorted all this out herself
  6. Those units look like bloody trams not the type of replacement for a 90 surely? As I said earlier the ideal solution would be rebuild the mkllls and have 88s on them Also one of the reasons abellio got the franchise was according to that stupid Smith mp was to safeguard British jobs well half the new trains are Spanish. Why do these new Tory MPs talk to the public if they are stupid junior school pupils?
  7. There has just been an item on look East saying that 1000+ new' carriages' will be built. The mp Clohe Smith was desperately trying to take credit for it all blaming current delays on old trains! I'm surprised she knows what a train is!
  8. I think it's too early to say Phil. Apparently the vehicles are from bombardier thankfully not Siemens. But if they want to do Norwich in an hour and a half I would have thought some sections would have to be 125mph Personally I think the best solution would be Chiltern style rebuilding of the mkllls and 88s, but the public want new build even though they wouldn't know the difference
  9. If it is 4 x 4 car units there isn't a lot of difference with the space of the loco and the intermediate cabs along the train Also look at a pendelino as see how space is wasted on those foul things
  10. So the GE mainline becomes even duller and less comfortable for passengers
  11. Shame they don't appear to be going for new coaches and class 88s
  12. Didn't there used to be a rule that glasses were prohibited on steam locomotives?
  13. Having once tripped on a loop of cable in ballast and spending 8 months having traction I hate to see things 'awaiting' recovery
  14. So much for so called defensive driving that second one is quite close to the colourlight
  15. Trouble is Wilkinson let his mouth go and antagonised train crew before this dispute kicked off. One way of calming things down a bit would be to sack him as he is not really competent for his role
  16. Whoever left all that crap lying around and those cables like that deserves sacking. Network rail preaches to train operators about the most trivial things yet it can't keep its own house in order
  17. Being really pedantic semaphores are still on the ECML at Peterborough Eastfield , it's technically a yard off the line but you can be routed through it
  18. Thats basically an export SD40 so no silencer. I think class 66s would be slightly likeable if they were unsilenced and possibly quieter in the no1 cab
  19. With regards to the IBs I read somewhere that they were installed in the 50s for the extra holiday traffic the line had to cope with when the M&GN closed I could never really get my head around the semaphore IB at Thetford , why it was classed as one. It may have been something to do with the closure of Thetford East
  20. I know you are lucky in keeping your hair. I've got a bit more back after chemotherapy but wouldn't recommend that as a way of hair restoration!
  21. You can still see it's you Mick, you haven't changed too much
  22. It's not too bad, at least it does centre on the railway rather than on some hillbilly's that live near it Are those big GEs and GMs heavily silenced. I haven't heard any noise from them. There was a shot of a GM idling and it had the same turbo wine of a 66
  23. That thumper looks to have a decent paint job, but why the stupid colour scheme and headlight?
  24. Was the interlocking still set up for it until the end? If so I suppose it would have be quite easy to have reinstated it
