AIRBRUSH COMPRESSOR

Well it seems that my airbrush compressor will be arriving from North America tonight. So I may well have to change track tomorrow and get on with some painting tomorrow. It will be interesting as I have not spayed using an airbrush for a while now.   Mind you if the weather is anything like today I don't think I will get anywere near to paint. Today we had the reason here is called a rain forest must of been close to 5 inches of rain and 90% humidity. The roads out side the apartment this mor

So what comes next (2)

Well here is the choice narrowed down to two thanks to the input from here. They have not taken to nine months storage very well, both have a lot of tarnishing. The atmospher here in North Brazil really attacks the brass. Even when working on a model if left for a couple of days the brass tarnishes, you just can't keep it looking nice and shiny as you can in the UK.   The Well tank I think will be mine, it was bought as a started kit, with the intension of selling on. But as it cost me so litt

So what comes next.

So with LSWR 735 coming to the end of its build, I have to decide what to do next.   My wife has got me a compressor for my birthday, just got to wait for it to arrive from North America. should be at the end of the month. When it comes I will get on with the painting of Buffalo, and 735, plus what ever else is completed.   I have a choice, of a LMS Ivatt 2mt that is three quarters done, this is a kit that was bought abused and needed some TLC. Then there is a LMS 3031 with a round top boi

Just as a little distraction. I decided to construct some wagons. The first is part of this block. The reason being is that sometime in the near future when we get into our house I want to play trains, you know the sort of thing build a layout etc. I thought that if I had some stock, it would give me the push I need     Having decided that I will build a loco for myself my thinking was that I ought also have something for it to haul. As the choice of the my first self build will e

Thoughts of models

It always amazes me how even when I am away from my model bench. Even when on holiday my mined often turns to problems that need to be solved at the bench. It would in its self not be a bad thing, but why midnight, why not while I was sat in the car for four hours. Whether the thoughts of food stopped my brain from side tracking or maybe it was thinking of a way to get the driver to stop on the way back for me to a photo or two of some mixed gauge line I had seen. I had a picture in my mind of s

Cranes in odd places

Here we are on Sunday night, I have not done any modelling over the weekend, only look a at 735. As normal for Sundays we went out to lunch. It was a lovely place down by the river, there is in the little area a butterfly collection, and an aviary and what the call the Belem lighthouse. It is just a tower without a light at top, I will post a photo when I get a chance. Rainy season here so being outside at the wrong time is no good.   But on the way between the restuarant and the car park is a

Slow progress

It has been a bad couple of days model making wise. But progress else where. The start of the problems was yesterday, it was lovely and cool for here, 23C first thing. Unfortunately this normally means rain, and we were not let down. Hopefully my video will upload, I think it is why it gets called the rain forest.   I could not upload the video, I will see about doing it via youtube, that will be another day now. Well that was yesterdays problems rain stopped play.   Today no model making a

Rolling road

Today I did a job that I should of done in the UK a year or more ago. My rolling road bearings were set to far apart. They worked fine except if the loco had brake gear or sanding pipes, then everything snarled up because the wheels sat to low. After taking one apart I found that if I redrilled the new holes at 10mm centres, this gave me 1mm between the rollers. So having drilled the new holes and reassembled the unit. I jury rigged a loco so the I could test before doing other. Bingo it worke

The new work shop

Well here are the pictures of the new workshop. As you can see there is still loads to do, it will be even better when the roof is finished and everything starts to dry out. It is about 3 metres square, I think I will be putting the bench under the window. With the usual racking down one wall. I have also outline planing permision to to put a track outside. Which would give me a 30 metre there and back test track. I will have to test track stability at high temperatures. There is not to m

Setting the scene

Hello and welcome to you to all   Well, as you can see from the photo, there is no workshop. Since moving to Belem in north Brazil I have yet to get a proper modelling space. So for now it is the corner of our bedroom balcony. All is not lost though in the photo you will see an O gauge pannier tank. I will show more of this later. This was constructed in this corner. Being so near the Equator and the Amazon forest my work day is quite limited. I general do not work here much after 12 noon. As
