Nope sorry, it's like you're talking an alien language Don't cut it, then it's just one piece and no problems. Contrast that with other regional shows where once the show has closed we can be on the road in an hour. Too big can also manifest itself in the personal approach by the host club. Welcome on arrival, offered a brew, offered help with unloading, shown exactly where to set up, . Well we were in the void with the van at 5:50 and loaded and away at 6:30 which was only slightly slower than our usual drop and away. The main thing I've found at Warley is the impatience and arguments at the door set the NEC staff on go slow. If you're polite and ask they've put us in the car park opposite and given us the code for the gate or sent us round to the void area. I do find a trolley of some sort vital and have made two using 100mm castors, (they get over low kerbs on dropped pavements), and 2ft 6in squares of 12mm ply. We were escorted to the spot and told where the RCD test and help points were, no brew but there was Starbucks just by the door. The NEC car park staff were polite and helpful all weekend and we were parked in the hall before 6pm and away by 6.30. The teams on the layouts had only just finished packing when I arrived with the van. The young man in the car park was excellent and walked up and down our queue asking which block we were heading for then setting us off as soon as traffic started moving. A few years ago there were some traffic problems but for the past two years I can't fault them. The Warley Stewards are very helpful as well. I was apprehensive beforehand after hearing numerous nightmare scenarios but maybe I was prepared for this but it went much more smoothly. It does take longer just because of the sheer size of NEC and exhibitors / trader involved. This year was the first year that we didn't drive in as there was a time for about 20 minutes that no vehicle3 entered the hall and with numerous vans in the queue who should have been at hall 1 we had to shuffle around to let them pass so ended up blocking the exit. We then decided to unload outside and wheel everything in. We do this to load on Sunday night and were away by 6pm. OK, not all stands can do this but it helps being a relatively small one in comparison. This year the NEC security seemed much more approachable and friendly (yet still rightly checking that we had our passes under our coats) in comparison to last year. maybe it was just luck who we dealt with. I suppose the advantage of exhibiting over just visiting is that we have our space behind the layout to retreat to when it does get crowded. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Just pick the bits you like and ignore the rest. You'll be telling me cakes can be "too big" next! Maybe an admission reduction is due if you don't wish to see everything. That you see proves that a show can be too big because I never saw any (but I did at Wycrail, hic ...burp ... ) Neither did I but I blame only get an hour out from behind the stand over the weekend. I did try a crepe but the way it was served saw the delicious, but lava hot, filling sit in the bottom of a pancake pocket. Even with the aid of a spork (am I the only one who carries one in my bag) it was a challenge to eat. Basically, Warley needs a cake stand! Maybe a cake stand instead of the loco as a centre piece. Terry Almost Terry, I did get to other shows with NHC but, as you know, my preferred scale is 12" to 1ft which does seem to take up a lot of time... Looking forward to getting up at 4.30am ( ) tomorrow to book on at 6am at Blaenavon for a day driving a nice maroon austerity on Santa trains. This year was my first visit and at 61 years old I was like a child who had been given three years Christmas presents all at the same time. Yes, some small shows can be wonderful but I have also been to some that were pretty dire. I went not intending to buy anything but came away with some nice items including some from the Bachmann stand when it went quiet. All in all I had a great day and intend to go again next year. It's good that you enjoyed it, I must take my hat off to the organisers and say it is a well organised show with plenty for all tastes. My personal reticence about Warley is partly to do with the size of the show at the NEC which turns it into a cross between a maze and a memory game to try and return to a particular trade stand or layout, but also to do with the number of, and attitude of some, people attending that can turn it into somewhat of a battle just to make your way around the hall. Admittedly my experiences are clouded by some of the earlier NEC shows and, having attended last year with BCB, it did seem a little less crowded. But I still find it intimidating in its size, and I must also add that I have had a similar experience at Glasgow so it's not just the NEC show that I am not a fan of. That is the most impossible post to 'mark' I have ever seen on RMweb. It clearly deserves 'Friendly & Supportive' because you were tied to your post diorama for so much time (also that was 'Informative' of course) and had little chance to roam; it deserves 'Like' because of the mention of crepe; it deserves 'Agree' because of the mention of a cake stand; and it deserves that nice little knife & fork symbol because you were carrying one. All we need now is to decide on a prototype and how much I'm going to enjoy trying to eat the rivets faster than people can count them. Also, as has been mentioned, it should be a Wycrail advert. Seriously though, I didn't get to see the show other than grabbing an (excellent) burger each day, but then being on the stand chatting to people is what I'm there for. For two days, almost without exception, I spent the time talking to enthusiastic people about Ruston Quays and model making in general. Everyone was nice and friendly. They all seemed to be having a good time. If that was you - thank you for dropping by the BRM stand. If I'm honest, it does the ego good when people say they are following a series of articles and having a go. After all, that's the point of writing them! We also had loads of good feedback about the magazine and especially the DVD which lots of people commented on. When I'm in the studio again (next week) it inspires me to do the best I can as it's great to know people are watching and enjoying it.
