ChrisMitchell
Just spent the day at the York show, and ordered 24081 in BR Blue, having spent some time talking with Phil Sutton. The model looks absolutely superb, sounds fantastc, and well worth the money. One of the box shifters was selling the Bachmann 24 for just under £100. Factor in DCC sound, and a set of P4 wheels (on 6 months delivery), and the price is quite reasonable. Looking forward to receiving my model in a week or so.
RMweb Premium CloggyDog Posted March 29, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 29, 2016 The first release has issues with the side grills, have these been resolved in this version? Regards The D5098/D5107 release both have the original grille, but in the Darlington 'polished grille' finish look less problematic than the plain blue or green versions. Phil did have a test-etch of a revised grille on the stand (painted blue in one of the saucers containing the various detail parts). The revised grille has more and closer-spaced slats without the verticals and looked to be a significant improvement over the originals. The SLW website has been updated to reflect the new releases (and the Tyne Dock add-on pack) and these are all now on general sale via the website or by phone 01780 470086
Brian Hawkins
Paid for D5098 and D5107 this morning, Jamie informed me that i should receive them towards the end of next week, already looking forward to the third release of these superb models, roll on the 25's Edited March 29, 2016 by Brian Hawkins
The Ghost of IKB
Hopefully more blue ones soon. 24133 was a favourite for me, when I was spotting at Crewe, (complete with snorkel parka, cheese butties and tizer) class 24 at one end and a 24/25 mash up at the other!
SwissRailPassion
I saw them at York and I must say the level of detail and the accurate body shape was impressive. I hope to replace my Bachmann 24s eventually and will be saving up. The sound and light features were brilliant and set new standards. There was a real sense of presence about the locomotives.

Did Phil perhaps comment, when available, these "revised" grilles would be available to previous purchasers to upgrade existing models ?

Guest Q663368
Having ordered D5098 and D5107, does anyone have any photographs of these particular models. The only one I have seen is of D5107 with the extra air pipes fitted for the Consett trains which may have been taken on Canada Road. Rather appropriate with me being in Canada. Thanks in advance. RMweb Premium Clive Mortimore Posted March 31, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 31, 2016 D5098 arrived today, that is after Phil told me I would get it by the middle of April, I don't know what the world is coming to when things arrive early. :locomotive: And I have another biscuit tin.......next time Phil remember the biscuits.
SRman
They are not allowed to run early. You should apply a penalty!

There are a number of prototype photos on the web of these loco's. I search as "Sulzer Type 2 D5098", etc. If you are responding to my post, am looking for photo's of the SLW models themselves prior to receiving my models. However, I had not come across the one's you posted. Many thanks.
Torr Giffard LSWR 1951-71
.....there is a good close up of D5107 on the 'Derby Sulzer' site....http://www.derbysulzers.com/5107blaydon.jpg Dave
RMweb Premium Francis deWeck Posted April 2, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 2, 2016 Great runners these; work well when double-heading, not that they lack power or adhesive weight to require double heading. Now waiting for other variants/numbered locos to create a semi-permanently coupled pairing........ All power to Phil Sutton's elbow, may his enterprise succeed beyond his dreams. Brian Hawkins
I recieved D5107 today, yet another superb model as you would expect from SLW, my only disapointment is that D5098 did not arrive with it...................that will be here tomorrow ! :-)
Mad McCann
Hopefully they'll be doing more GSYP runs. Just don't have the dosh for one of these bad boys right now, more's the pity!
Brian Hawkins
I've just landed in my local after a long day at work, phoned home to find out if D5098 has arrived to be told it has ! Now the dilema, do I drink up and go home to give it a run or do I carry on with my favourite hobby ? The decision has just been made for me.....the barmaid has just plonked another pint on the bar for me, oh well.
black and decker boy
SLW must be playing a low key advertising strategy for these new versions as despite being a regular customer of REx and owner of 24081, I've had neither an email nor letter telling me if the green versions. You'd have thought they would be trying to reach as many potential sales as possible. I could still be tempted though green fye would probably suit me more. Austrag
I assume you checked your spam folder. I found my email from Jamie in there after 3 days! Give them a call, they don't bite.
37081LochLong
And also double check they have written your email address down right, I only found out they had may address wrong by looking on the receipt of my D5000 and 24081. They are listed for sale on the rail exclusive site now so you could just buy direct from there too http://www.railexclusive.com/products.php?cat=
sixoh8sixoh
I ordered a D5107 which arrived on Saturday morning. Tried it using the Bachmann EZ command which gave me a few basic functions and was very impressed with the build quality, smooth and quiet running (without the sound on!), detail and the DCC sound. Once I have the chance to look out my more advanced DCC controller I'll give it a proper test of its sound.
Guest Q663368
Wow !. Received 5098 and 5107 today here in Canada. Less than four days in transit too. What exquisite models. I guess 5100 will have to go now. I look forward to new releases hopefully a 24/1 or 25/0. IMHO this is the best 4mm scale model ever to be produced.
